  1. Cheryl Austermiller says

Need a cell phone booster to use at my home, then I would be first in line for this!

  2. Richard Fine says

Will I be saving $’s and receiving at least the same service. Currently, my home phone service is being provided as part of my cable, internet, and phone package from Xfiniti???

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Richard. Many of our customers find they save with the Home Phone Base option because they only pay an additional $10 per month, and they are sharing the plan minutes they already have. It might be worth taking a look at your current phone bill to see if this would be a good fit for you. If you have any questions, we’re happy to help you at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting, and we hope you have a great day!

      • Richard says

I have a call back request in for almost 30 min. I want to ask about your holiday $20 promotion to add a line. The wait time is ridiculous. Does this offer apply if I purchase at retail?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We apologize for the hold time, Richard. I’m glad to see that Gerald, our customer account advisor, was able to answer your questions. Our Holiday Promotion is available at our retail locations, and you can find the store nearest you with our Retail Locator here. Thank you for reaching out to us and we hope you have a great day!

    • Violet says

What about dropped calls? I’ve had several since I got the home base a few weeks ago. Is that something that is common with this device?

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re sorry to hear that you’ve been experiencing dropped calls, Violet. We’re happy to troubleshoot any coverage issues you’ve been having if you like. You can reach us at 888-345-5509, whenever is most convenient for you. Thank you for posting!

  3. stevef says

what happens if the power goes out or the internet is down?????

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Steve. The Home Phone Base does come with a back up battery. You’ll still be able to make calls as long as you have cellular service. Thank you for asking!

  4. Deloris says

I would love this but I would have to have a wireless router service separate

    • Charles Murray says

So if the wireless home phone base won’t handle a fax (as you said in your reply to Ray on Oct. 30th), I assume that means I have to continue to pay for a land line if I need to use a fax every now and then. Is that correct ?

      Charles

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I’m happy to clarify, Charles. The Home Phone Base is not designed to be used with a Fax machine, so you would still need a dedicated landline for that. Thank you for asking!

        • Barbara says

I have a home phone but not a landline. so long as the home base has two phone plugs you should be able to use a fax shouldn’t you?

          • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Barbara. The Wireless Home Phone Base is not designed to be used with a fax machine, so we don’t recommend using one with this device. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509, so please don’t hesitate to call. We appreciate you posting today!

    • Toby Sue Shaw says

Do I have to have a separate internet. I currently have both AT&T with home phone and internet?

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Toby! Our Wireless Home Phone base uses a cellular signal, so you do not need to have a phone jack or internet in order to use it. We’re happy to answer any other questions you might have at 888-345-5509. Thank you for commenting!

  5. Doug says

    Yay and Hooray!

The home base was what I was inquiring about 2 months ago. I was ready to ditch my expensive, inaccurate and unfriendly home service company for Consumer Cellular home plan. I was so disappointed then when I couldn’t find it online. And when I wrote in I was told that you no longer carried this device. I didn’t think it would be returning and I was very upset that I could not get my home service through your great company.

Now imagine my surprise and excitement when I saw it listed today!!

I couldn’t believe my eyes that it was actually back and with a newer better unit (from what my representative told me).

You know I ordered mine right away! I can’t wait for it to arrive!

If the home base works as good as my cell phone service does, then I will tell everyone I know to get a home base.

Thanks for listening back in August when I asked that they reinstate this great idea and for actually making it happen in a relatively short period of time!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re so glad you have already ordered yours, Doug. We really do try to listen to our customers and incorporate your feedback into our plans and products. Thank you for letting us know!

  6. Steve says

Isn’t this the same device you offered before and was only $35.00?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Steve. While this product is indeed similar, it is manufactured by a different company and has some new improvements. If we can answer any other questions you may have, please feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for commenting!

  7. Jerry says

Makes me ask the question: “Why did you drop the old one?” … which I bought and paid for a few years ago?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Jerry. The previous model is no longer available, so we are excited to be able to offer a similar product once again.

      • Ruthella Burden says

I know how you feel Ashley, buying something only to find out in a few years they have a BETTER ONE. Maybe you can ask CC if they would do a BUY BACK of your old one and give you a $$ CREDIT toward the NEW ONE ??? I think that would only be FAIR to everyone who has the older model…

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, Ruthella. I’m certainly happy to forward your suggestion to our management team, and thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

    • Liz says

I have the old model and it works just fine.

  8. Steve says

Does this system support caller id like the landline.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Steve. As long as your home phone will display caller ID information, you will be able to see the phone number and other caller ID while using the Home Phone Base. Thank you for posting!

  9. Richard says

What if I am in an area of a co-op phone minopoly. Richard

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Richard. Our Wireless Home Phone Base doesn’t use landlines at all, just cellular service. So if you have good service with your cellphone at home, this may be a good option for you. If you have any questions, we’re happy to help answer them at 888-345-5509. Thank you for the comment!

  10. Tom DORNFELD says

I cannot get cellular service at my home. There aren’t any towers near enough. Can I still use your service to get rid of my landline ?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We appreciate you taking the time to post, Tom. Our Wireless Home Phone Base does use cellular service, so if the signal is poor in your home, it probably isn’t the best option for you. Thank you for the comment!

  11. Janice Vazquez says

If I buy the new base and it is discontinued again, will it still work or will I have to buy a new one?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Janice. Your phone base will still work, even if we begin offering a different model. Our customers who have the previous model continue to have a quality product experience now. If we can answer any other questions for you, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. We will be happy to assist you!

  12. ray says

with this could i ste up my fax on it

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Ray. The Wireless Home Phone Base is not meant to be used with a fax machine. We can answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. We’ll be happy to help you! Thank you for taking the time to comment, and have a great day!

  13. rose says

is this a cable, internet, and cell service?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Rose. The Wireless Home Phone base can only provide phone service, and can’t be used for cable and internet. It allows your home phone to connect to the cellular network and make calls that way. We can answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

  14. Doug says

    Great cell phone service.

Home phone service seems just as great at this point in time –however, I just hooked up the home base—so we will see if it passes the test! But, I am sure it will.

Now, Consumer Cellular just needs to provide Wireless Internet Service! No kidding. All that would be needed is just another small base to connect to our computers. Maybe have 3 antennas that are “live”—in conjunction with a battery and electric plug-in, these antennas magnify and draw in the wireless signal so it always stays at peak (5 bars). One antenna could be round, the second triangular and the third a long 3-ft extension one.

Of course you would have to come up with a different –separate monthly type of pricing for Internet service, but I am sure the fee would be fair like your phone plans. It would be unique as well. When this comes out, I will be the first in line to try it! Please pass this suggestion along to those who may be able to develop it. Thank you.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We appreciate your kind words, Doug. I was happy to pass your suggestion on to our management team for review. If we should ever offer this service in the future, we’ll be sure to let you know! Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas with us today!

    • Peggy says

I completely agree that Consumer Cellular would be my first choice for internet service if they provided it. I just love how simple they make everything. I’m looking for a new internet service provider so I can get drop my home phone and go to the Wireless Home Phone Base. The residential land line is too expensive for my usage and the idea of what is a local call, regional call or long distance call is just too old fashioned. My only problem is my internet is bundled with my land line and I don’t think I can have internet without the land line at a reasonable price. I’ve convinced my sisters to switch to Consumer Cellular and they’re so pleased. Consumer Cellular, you’re terrific!

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you, Peggy. That’s great to hear!

      • Lisa says

I’m sure you can change your package to be just internet and tv, or just internet. The price will seem less reasonable per service item, but you still might save some money in the long term. You really should call the bundling company and ask. Just tell them you are considering dropping the landline And want to know the options. But don’t drop your landline, until you have your new consumer cellular base set up to use your old number, or you will lose your number.

  15. Jerry Isadore says

I agree with Doug about the Wireless Internet Service, please make it happen!!!!! Thank you

  16. Russ Kercher says

Does the unit support only one phone, or all phones in the house?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Russ. It can support a single phone, or it can support a cordless phone system with multiple handsets. If we can answer any other questions you may have, please feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

  17. Steve says

I’m getting ready to get Consumer Cellular service. I have an ATT mobile home base. Can you send me a sim card to replace the ATT card? They are the same models, just a different name.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We can help you with that, Steve. Can you give us a call at 888-345-5509? We’ll confirm the details of your home base unit and get that SIM card on the way to you. Thank you for reaching out today!

    • Doug says

Hi Steve. I have only had the Consumer Cellular base for a few days now. It seems to work just as great as my cell phone service, with both making and receiving calls.

Just wanted to know how the home base has worked for you. CC uses ATT towers as one of the towers for transmission, so I Hope you will tell us that you have had no problems with the home base. What about in stormy or snowy weather? Thanks.

      • Steve says

Thanks Ashley… I called and received my SIM card in a couple days. Thanks

Doug… I called to make the switch and am just waiting for Verizon to do their thing. I’ll let you know how its working as soon as I’m ported over. Fingers crossed.

        • Doug says

Thanks Steve. Yes, let me know how it works for you.

Curious as to how did the ATT mobile base work for you in the past with ATT service?

          • Steve says

Afternoon Doug. Porting was completed yesterday and the system is working fine. I never had ATT service. I’ve always had service through a Verizon landline. I bought the mobile base brand new from ebay. Its the exact same machine just has the ATT logo on it instead of Consumer Cellular. It was cheaper than buying from Consumer Cellular. It came with an ATT SIM card which I removed and added a Consumer Cellular SIM which they sent me. I’m very pleased so far. Sound quality is great and the phone works anywhere in the house. I’ll try to report back after we have had a storm as to how its working. I get a feeling that it will still be fine. Good luck with your system.
PS… I left the built in answering machine on my phone on and its still working. I could turn it off and use the mobile base’s answering system but I’m just going to leave the old machine on.

  18. Mike Poppe says

can 911 dispatchers identify your location if you call using this phone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Mike. You may need to provide your location to 911 dispatchers in case of an emergency. If you have any other questions about the Wireless Home Phone Base, please feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting today!

  19. regina says

I have had consumer cellular service for2-3years or maybe more–but what I’m getting at is the GREAT service I get. For instance, my voicemail on my new phone didn’t want to set up via tutorial so when I called customer service, they were willing and eager to help–you can tell in the voice. Thank you for being there!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for sharing your experience, Regina. We appreciate your kind words, and it’s true- we are willing and eager to help our customers! We appreciate you taking the time to post and we hope you have a great day!

I could not wait 10 minutes to talk about plan change.

  22. Justin says

Will I be able to pick a new phone number with this since I don’t currently have home service.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Justin. We can absolutely provide you with a new phone number with your SIM card or Wireless Home Phone Base. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we can get that taken care of for you. Thank you for posting!

  23. Justin says

Can I use the same device, same model (wtf721) but was through AT&T that I have?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Justin. The best way to find out would be to test our SIM card with your device. If the device works once our SIM card is in place, then you should be able to use it without any issues. You can find our SIM cards here on our site, or at your local Target or Sears store. We’re happy to help you with the setup, so just give us a call at 888-345-5509 when you’re ready. Thank you for posting today!

  24. Linda says

I have loved Consumer Cellular…..two smartphones and have our landline with CC also. My question is: my wireless home phone base indicates that I have a message waiting. I’ve tried to retrieve the msg but every time the recorder says I have NO messages. How do I get the green blinking light on my home base to stop blinking? Thanks for your suggestions.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re glad you love our service, Linda. I took a look at your account, and I see that Danielle, our customer account advisor, was able to help you with this issue. If it keeps happening or if we can assist you with anything else at this time, please feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting!

  25. KennyH says

So, we pay $10/month for this, but get no extra minutes to use the service?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Kenny. You’ll pay $10 per month for the additional device, but you’ll be able to share your plan’s minutes between all of the phones on your account. Calls made between the phone on the account (including the home phone base) are also free! If we can answer any other questions about our family share plans, we’re happy to do so at 888-345-5509. We appreciate your comments!

  26. KennyH says

This looks like it will only support 1 phone. What if we have 3 in the house?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Kenny. It will support a phone system that has multiple handsets, but only one phone line can be plugged into the base at a time. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting today!

  27. Gloria McDaniel says

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We apologize for any frustration, Gloria. I was able to take a look at your account, and it looks like the number transfer for your Doro 618 is still in progress. It can take some time depending on the carrier and other factors. If your number is not active on the Doro 618 soon, please call us at 888-345-5509. 28. Mary Dondanville says

Can the home base be used with a multi-phone system? The thing I dislike I having to find my cell every time I need to make a call. My land line has 4 handsets around the house, all connected wirelessly to the base station. If I plug the base station into the home base, will I have access to the other 3 handsets?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Absolutely, Mary! You’ll just plug your home base unit into the Wireless Home Phone Base, then use your home phone handsets as you did before. Best of all, you’ll save money and get our great customer service! If we can answer any other questions you may have, please feel free to call us at 888-345-5509. We’ll be happy to assist you! Thank you for taking the time to comment today!

  29. yyz guy says

Is it possible to start with a consumer cellular provided phone number, then if we like this, port an existing landline phone number to the device? If so, is there a fee for changing the phone number?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking! We can provide you a phone number when you activate our SIM card or one of our devices and then transfer another number at any time. You would just need to pay for the service you’re using prior to the transfer. We don’t charge you any fees to change your number. If you’re ready to get started, just call us at 888-345-5509 and we’ll be happy to assist you. We appreciate you posting today!

Can I make overseas calls on the home phone, what is the monthly cost of the wireless home phone base after buying the base for $50.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We appreciate you taking the time to ask us, Jerry. You can make international calls from the Wireless Home Phone Base. After you’ve purchased the base, you can choose the plan that is right for you and that would be your monthly charge. You can view our plans here to find the best option. We’re happy to help you determine which plan meets your needs at 888-345-5509 as well. Thank you for commenting, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  31. Lisa says

Almost 72 hours and still no service. Waiting patiently. Maybe rethinking this move

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We appreciate your patience, Lisa. Transferring your number can take some time as multiple carriers have to be involved. It looks like we have all the information we need, so if you are still without service tomorrow, please call us at 888-345-5509 and we’ll be happy to troubleshoot. Thank you for reaching out to us, and we look forward to helping you!

      • Crystal says

I beg your pardon Ashley…I am in the same boat as Lisa…I have been on hold each time I have called (3x tonight) for at LEAST 30 minutes with no luck. I am beginning to think the same a Lisa. Poor customer service is a sure way to get rid of customers….

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We apologize for the inconvenience, Crystal. There can be a longer hold time after a holiday weekend, but please know that we are continuing to hire more representatives so that the time spent waiting will lessen. We appreciate your patience, and if email is more convenient for you, you can always reach out to us at [email protected] if you like. Thank you for your feedback, and we appreciate your business!

  32. a. Chris Smith says

Russ Kircher asked in November about the ZTE phone base supporting all the phones in the house, Differently, I ask if the phone base will support wired-in extensions in the house via the second plug/jack in the back of the unit? Only one phone and/or extension gets used at a time.

    ACS 12/1/2015

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking! The phone in question must be plugged into the Home Base unit, so extensions wired through the house won’t work. We do have customers who use a cordless phone with multiple handsets successfully. That way they can have a phone in each room of the house as needed. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you reaching out to us today!

  33. Ira D Jinkins Sr. says

    Hi,
Can I get rid of my cellphone and only use my landline with the ZTE Home Base Service?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re happy to answer, Ira. Our ZTE Home Phone Base uses a cellular signal, so you would not be able to use it with your landline service. It’s a great option for customers who are looking to replace their current landline with a more flexible option. If you have any other questions about the Home Phone Base, we’re happy to answer them at 888-345-5509 at your convenience. Thank you for commenting, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  34. sue vonderbecke says

I too need a signal booster since we rarely get even one bar of signal at home. If we did then goodbye landline!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the feedback, Sue. I’ve forwarded your comments on to our management team for review. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us!

  35. Kenny says

This unit works great. If you want to use wired phones or your old answering machine, you can plug this base unit into a wall jack. JUST MAKE SURE to disconnect the phone line comming into your house. It is usually in a box on the outside. YES, plugging into a wall jack is supported, but unplug outside phone service. You will find this listed on page 15 of the online Home Base user guide on the CC website. This paragraph is missing from the user pamphlet which comes with the unit. Plugging the unit into a wall jack will power all of your wall jacks just like your old phone service did. I did this because I have one wireless and one wired phone and my best reception is in the back of the house and I wanted to see my messages when I walk in the door (up front). Also, for me, it was more convenient to just push play and listen to my messages. When using your old answering machine, set it to pick up in three rings, because the base unit picks up on the forth or fifth ring. Some have asked about switching from the internet provider and whether it would cost them extra to unbundle. Check with your local provider, but with my service, the bundle discount was for tv and internet, so removing my phone service did not cost me any extra. This is my first month, but I’m curious to see how it works out with more possible savings. Instead of having multiple sets of taxes and fees for separate home and cell phone providers, it will all be on one account. I’m predicting extra savings because of this. Like others, I would be interested in see you all provide internet service as well.

    • Kenny says

One thing extra. If you did as i had done and plugged your internet modem into a wall jack, for the same purpose, unplug the internet modem from the wall jack. P.S. My modem had one line for internet and one for phone. Once you’ve switched services, to consumer cellular, you don’t need the modem phone line, and if the internet modem is left connected to a wall jack, it may cause issues with your new service.

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for sharing your experience, Kenny. We’re glad to hear you were able to get this resolved, and we hope your comment helps others as well! Thank you for posting!

  36. Gerard says

I’m a prospective customer, having read the recent positive Consumer Reports review of CC. What attracts me to the company is that it’s straightforward in what it offers. (I’m with Verizon on a no-contract plan, and their support is beyond bad.) I wonder that if CC branches into being an internet provider, as some have asked about, whether the simplicity of its operation will be sacrificed, and the service will subject to even more taxes, etc. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. From a soon-to-be customer.

  37. c o little says

would this home phone base be dialed locally using a 7 digit number or would a 10 digit number have to be dialed?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question! You would make phone calls to the wireless home phone base using 10 digits. Thank you for asking!

  38. Chris Hoppes says

So explain to me how this home base works exactly. I’m not with you on
any plans, I’m not a customer yet, I just came across this… What do I need from the start down to everything to make this work? Please explain start to finish thank you.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I’m happy to help, Chris! First, the home phone base allows you to use your current home phone with our service. It will connect to the cellular network, which is why you can use it wherever you are. You can take it with you when you travel and will work anywhere you have a signal and a power source. First, you’ll need to call us and open an account, then order the home phone base. Once you receive it, you’ll need the home phone base, a power outlet and a cordless or wired home phone. You’ll plug the wireless home phone base into the power outlet, then plug the home phone handset into the phone base. That’s it! You’ll be able to use your home phone in the same way you did before. We can even help you transfer your current home phone number to our service, so you can keep the number that you’ve always had. If you would like to see more, check out our videos about the Home Phone base here. We can also answer any questions you may have at 888-345-5509. Thank you for asking about it, and we hope to see you as a customer soon!

  39. Tabby says

Is 500mb more or less then 1.5 that you have

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Tabby. 500MB is less than our 1.5GB plan. To give some perspective, 1 GB of data is equivalent to 1,000MB of data. We’re always happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  40. Fred Jacks says

I just discovered your home phone wireless base.. I have Verizon
telephone internet service. Would I still be able to use it with your base. I been with you about 6 months.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Fred. Our wireless home phone base uses a cellular signal that your home phone can connect to, so it is meant to replace your current home phone service. It would be just $10 a month to add one to your plan, and you can keep your current home phone number. Best of all, you can share your account minutes and save. If we can answer any other questions for you today, feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. We will be happy to assist you! Thank you again for taking the time to comment today, we certainly appreciate it!

  41. MELVIN JACOBSON says

Is it just $10 per month or is it $10 per month plus the cost of each call?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Melvin! As a current customer, it would be just $10 a month to add this to your plan. Best of all, you’ll be able to share the minutes in your current plan. It’s a great way to save money, and you’ll keep the same phone and phone number you’ve always used. If you would like to get started, you can call us at 888-345-5509, or you can purchase the ZTE Home Phone base from the My Account portal. Whichever option you choose, we’re happy to help you. We appreciate you taking the time to post today, and we hope you have a great day!

  42. rod says

Wondering why you are not able to use a fax machine with it?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s a great question, Rod. Our Wireless Home Phone base uses a cellular signal to provide service, rather than a traditional landline. Most fax machines were not designed to use this type of connection, so we don’t recommend using the Home Phone Base if you use a fax machine. If we can answer any other questions you may have about the Wireless Home Phone Base, just let us know at 888-345-5509. We will be happy to help! Thank you for posting today, and we hope you have a fantastic day!

  43. Annie C. says

I cancelled my land line service a long time ago, I don’t even remember what company I had.
I have a bedroom phone and a kitchen phone plugged in and they are only used as an inner door release (I press 9) when the pizza delivery guy arrives.
Would this device still allow that process AND let me use the phones as phones? You would give me a phone number for it or would it be the same number as the cell phone I plan to get from you?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good questions, Annie. The Wireless Home Phone base uses a cellular signal and connects to your existing home phone handset. It won’t interact with the your current phone jack system, so I can’t speak to whether or not you would be able to use it as an inner door release. The Home Phone Base allows you to make calls just like you did before, and it will have a different phone number than the cellular phone you’ll use with us. Best of all, both phones will share plan minutes so you can save money. If we can answer any other questions for you, just let us know at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to comment, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  44. bryan ruscoe says

I’m confused! Does using the home base for international calls require dialing a long access number?

  45. Sue says

So, I would purchse the base, plug everything in, activate that line and then cancel my landline?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Sue! Thanks for the question. If you’d like to keep the same landline number you’ve always had, you can do that too! During the process of transferring your number from your landline company to us, we’ll activate your new device (once you receive it), and the activation will automatically cancel your account with your previous company. We just need to obtain some information from you when you submit your order to set that up. There’s a section for you to input that info, if you’re ordering online via our website. If you have any additional questions about this process, please feel free to contact us at either [email protected] or at 888-345-5508. Thank you.

  46. Dan says

Hello! When will the ZTE phone bases become available to order again? Showing Temp out of Stock when I try to order one on my acct. Also, if the ZTE phone base that CC offers is gone for a while, is it possible to purchase a different wireless phone base (on amazon or whatever) and add (and use) it as one of my devices on our current CC plan? Any thoughts appreciated!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Dan. We are currently out of stock, but we are expecting more to be available in early April. We don’t recommend using similar devices from other manufacturers with our service as we can’t guarantee that they will work properly. If you have any questions about using the Wireless Home Phone base, we’re happy to answer them at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

      • Dan says

Right on, Ashley – I’ll be looking forward to them arriving, and will be on board when they do! Thanks for your response.

  47. Sandy Myers says

Do we have to get a device for each phone in the house as we have 3 phones,or does just one device works for all the phones

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Sandy. You can use the Wireless Home Phone base with a home phone that has multiple handsets, but it can only connect to a single phone line at a time. Many of our customers have had good experiences using our Home Phone base with similar multi-handset phones. If we can answer any questions about using your current phone with our system, we’re happy to help you at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting today!

  48. Lisa Carr says

We have 7 land line phones would we need a ZTE box for each phone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Lisa. You could use one Home Phone Base if you have a phone that has multiple cordless headsets. That way, you would only have the one phone number. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509, or even help you order the Home Phone Base over the phone. Thank you for posting your question, and we hope you have a great day!

      • Robert Thurston says

What do we need for a home phone base? Do we need to already have a home phone service?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Robert. You don’t have to already have home phone service. You can add an additional line to your account for the home phone base, and all you will need is a home phone to use. That’s it! You’ll have convenient home phone service in a snap! To get started, give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we will be happy to get one on the way to you now. Thank you for posting today!

  49. Jackie says

Do you have to have WiFi in order to use this?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

You don’t need Wi-Fi, Jackie. Our Wireless Home Phone Base connects your current home phone to a cellular network, so using Wi-Fi won’t affect your ability to call. If we can answer any other questions you might have about this great option, please call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you for commenting, and we hope you have a great day!

  50. Joan Pretschold says

Is this Wireless Home Phone Base updated to work on 4G and 5G only. Have read that 2G and 3G will no longer be supported by carriers. Thank you.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I’m happy to clear that up, Joan. At this time, only the 2G networks are being discontinued. 3G devices will continue to work properly and receive support. The Wireless Home Phone Base is a 3G device, and is fully supported by our service. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have about this great product at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us today!

  51. Cherry Medina says

question 1: when a question was asked if the ZTE would work for a phone that had multiple handsets, the reply was “…yes if the land line phone was cordless”. My home phone is corded, with 2 handsets in other rooms. Will it still work ??

question 2: A reply to one customer stated that he would need to dial 10 digits for a local number. If I want a local number that is already in my directory (without area code), will it work, or will I have to delete and re-enter each one individually ??

Thank you and have a blessed day.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Those are really good questions, Cherry! In regards to your first question, our ZTE Home Phone Base will usually work with a phone system that has multiple handsets, even if the handsets are cordless. You’ll just want to plug the the main base of your phone system into the ZTE Home Phone Base. As for your second question, you may have to reprogram in a local phone number so that it is dialed with all ten digits. If you have any other questions about this great product, we’re happy to answer them at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  52. V.E.LASCARA says

    Is the device fax able?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking! Our Wireless Home Phone Base is not meant to be used with a fax machine. It’s only designed to work with a landline phone to make and receive calls. We’re happy to tell you more about this great device at 888-345-5509 if you like. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  53. Karl says

I have a home base unit ,but, how do I set up the answering machine?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for reaching out to us, Karl. Your Home Phone Base comes complete with a voicemail system. You can view our “Setting up Voicemail” video here for a step-by-step guide through the process. We can also help you over the phone at 888-345-5509 if you run into any issues. We appreciate you posting!

  54. Scott says

If I have 3 phones on 1 line in the house, can they operate off one base? Or do they each need one? Also, we can keep current number, correct?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Scott! If you have a home phone that uses one main base with cordless handsets, it can be used with our Home Phone Base. We’re also happy to help you transfer your current phone number. If you’re ready to get started, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. We’re sure you’ll find this to be a great option, and one that saves money each month! We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

  55. Alice Graves says

I haven’t read this entire thread, so my question may have already been answered. Can I keep the phone number I already have on my landline? I get service through Time Warner Cable at the moment. Thanks.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Alice. You can keep your current phone number and use our home phone base. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we’ll be happy to start the transfer for you. Please keep in mind that you should keep the account with your landline open until we can confirm the number has been transferred to our service. It’s that easy! If you have any questions or if you’re ready to get started, just call us and we’ll have you connected in no time at all!

  56. Kay C says

I have a question about the wireless home base. We do not currently have our home phone anymore because it was an extra $50.00 per month and just use our cell phones with your company, however, my question is about the internet service we have to buy. We are in the country and have to pay another $65.00 to Hughesnet for our internet service which is not very good and would like to get onto one that goes through our phone line, but didn’t want to bring back that extra $50.00 charge for that plus the internet charge. So my question is can we use this wireless home base instead of the home phone being hooked back up and have the internet go though that? Thanks for any help! KC

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Kay! Our wireless home phone base allows you to connect to the cellular network with the home phone handset you already have, but it does not provide any internet access. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have about this device or your plan at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post your question, and we hope you have a great day!

  57. Kathleen says

Can the home base support an alarm system from ADT and a connect America medical alert system I have?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Kathleen. The Wireless Home Phone Base is not designed to work with security systems or other alert systems. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

  58. sabir kadri says

I have two lines and have ordered a home base unit to use as a land line. My question is will i get extra minutes for the base phone or i will share my current minutes? Please let me know, Thanks.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Sabir. Your Wireless Home Base and the other lines on your account will share the minutes in your plan. Best of all, all calls made between lines on the same account are free of charge! If we could answer any other questions you may have, please feel free to call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  59. Terry McDonald says

Your phone dosnot work at my house so would this device ?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Terry. The Wireless Home Phone Base uses a cellular signal to make and receive calls. If you’ve been experiencing issues with reception indoors, we’re happy to troubleshoot the problem and see if this device would be a good fit for you. Please call us at 888-345-5509 at your convenience, and we’ll be ready to assist you. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us today!

  60. Raymond Riha says

I’ve contacted customer service more then 3 times via email for a question about the Home Wireless Base. Each time I get an auto reply stating I’ll get a tech to respond to my question within 5 days. Well I’ve never received a reply, never!

My question is if I purchased the unit and I have 3 wireless home phones throughout the house, will this work?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We apologize for the wait you experienced, Raymond. I was able to review your account, and I see that we’ve responded to you recently. To answer your question about the Wireless Home Phone Base, you can use a wireless home phone system with multiple handsets. Many of our customers have found that to be useful, and some models of phones have up to four or five handsets. You would simply plug the main phone into the Wireless Home Phone Base. If we can assist you with any other questions you may have, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to post, and we hope you have a great day!

  61. Paula Banas says

how to install a new sim card in the home phone base unit to better the phone signal?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We can help you with that, Paula! You’ll want to remove the back cover, then take out the battery. You should see a SIM slot. Go ahead and remove the old SIM card, and replace it with the new one that has been shipped to you. We can walk you through it over the phone if you like at 888-345-5509. Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us today!

  62. Brian says

How much does this (base unit and service) cost if I do not already have Consumer Cellular as my cell phone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Brian. The Wireless Home Phone Base is currently available for $50. You’ll just need to select one of our Talk plans to get started, and you can have unlimited minutes for just $20 month. To view our plans in detail, just visit our website here. If you have any other questions or would like to get started, just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we will be happy to assist you. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  63. rosalie reynolds says

If I get the ZTE phone base station, can I use my home landline number? or can I change my cell phone number to my landline?

    Thank you

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Rosalie! Many of our customers use the ZTE Home Phone Base with the phone number they previously used with a land line. We can transfer that number to our service, but you’ll want to keep your previous account open until we can confirm that the transfer is complete. It’s simple to get started, and if possible, grab a recent invoice to have on hand so that we can confirm any account details. Then just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we’ll be happy to assist you. We appreciate you posting today!

  64. Al says

My land line has evolved into an open invitation for solicitors and marketers to pile on at my expense. I’d like to block them all but they are armed with robodialers and an endless list of identities. My Consumer Cellular service is not yet overburdened with unwanted calls but the final outcome remains uncertain. A wireless home phone could be a welcome alternative to the growing land line nuisance. But I assume the ZTE device does not allow users to block unwanted callers. If this is the case, is it possible to use a ZTE compatible 3rd party device that might serve this same purpose?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Al. You’re correct, the Wireless Home Phone Base does not come equipped with any call blocking features. It is designed to work with only a home phone, so we don’t recommend using additional add-ons with it. We’re happy to talk with you about this over the phone at 888-345-5509, and review all of the options available to you to stop unwanted calls. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

  65. Russ Hills says

I love the home phone base and we transferred our number no problem. However, is there any way to block spam callers on the ZTE box? I seem to get 10 a day for some reason…

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Russ. The Home Phone Base does not come equipped with a call blocking feature, so we recommend ensuring that the phone number is registered with the Do Not Call registry. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us, and we hope you have a lovely day!

  66. I’m giving great consideration to the Home Phone Base, However, your rep. told me yesterday you are out of stock, and have no idea when it will be available again.

Will you restock the home base again?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting! At this time, we don’t have the Wireless Home Phone base available. If more become available, we will be sure to update you here on the blog, and feature it on our website as well. We appreciate you reaching out ot us!

  67. Chad P says

I talked at length yesterday to customer service at Consumer Cellular about an issue I have that no one can seem to offer a satisfactory explanation. I have the 3G ZTE home base and it works fine, no problems. Will someone please explain to me why I can’t port a 56k modem into the extra jack on the ZTE and use a laptop to connect to my email server?? This is NOT a lot of bandwidth we are talking about here.

All I could get from CS was that, “It won’t do that.” OK, WHY won’t it? Typically, 3G is more than capable of transporting that speed of data so what’s the problem with the Consumer Cellular ZTE? I’d dearly like to know. Seems deliberate at this point.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for reaching out to us, Chad. The Wireless Home Phone Base is designed for making calls only, and was not designed for usage with a modem. We’re happy to discuss this with you further at 888-345-5509 at your convenience. We appreciate your feedback, and we hope to speak with you soon.

  68. paul strzeletski says

Good day can you please tell me if the wireless home base is still available, and where to buy?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Paul! At this time, we don’t have the wireless home phone base available. If that changes, we’ll be sure to let our customers know. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

  69. Paul says

Can I block a caller that is bothering me and leaves messages on my wireless home phone base and my AT&T wireless base recorder?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for taking the time to post, Paul. We aren’t able to block any incoming calls that are made to your wireless home phone base. We’re happy to review your options with you at 888-345-5509 if you like, so please feel free to give us a call at your convenience. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  70. D. Beutel says

Why is Consumer Cellular not willing/able to give a straight answer as far as the availability of the ZTE home base? I have been calling every few weeks as to if it is available again…

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, and we apologize for any confusion. At this time, the Wireless Home Phone Base is unavailable. If that should change in the future, we’ll be sure to update our customers here on the blog and on our website as well. If we can be of any other assistance, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. Thanks again, and we hope you have a great day!

  71. sandra christian says

I have a freeze alarm system in my home in Mn that I used with my landline. The alarm and phone plugged into a dual (split) wall jack. It was programmed to call my Fla number from my Mn home if the temp dropped in my home below where I set my home themostat. Can I use that with the ZTE wireless home base?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Sandra. The wireless home phone base is not designed to work with an alarm system, so it may not be the right fit for your needs. We’re happy to discuss this with you at 888-345-5509 if you like, so please feel free to give us a call. Thanks for posting today!

  72. Brian in CT says

An answer above in Sept. 2018 says the ZTE Home Base is not available. Then a question in Oct. 2018 is answered that the ZTE won’t work with an alarm system, but doesn’t say the that the ZTE is or is not available.
So, is it or is it not available in Nov. 2018?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Brian. You can learn all about the latest version of our wireless home phone base in our updated blog here. The device is currently available, and it’s a great option for anyone who is looking to move away from a landline, but would still like the convenience of a home phone. You can purchase the wireless home phone base on our website, or over the phone at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  73. Patrick says

If I have a single line phone with extra handsets and bases, for other rooms, will that work?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Patrick, the Wireless Home Phone Base can connect to more than landline device for service. If you have a number of handsets and bases for other rooms, then you would need to use a splitter and longer cables to reach, depending on the distance.

  74. Pat says

Will this device work with my monitored ADT system ?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

That’s a great question, Pat! If your ADT monitoring system requires a landline connection, then it may not be compatible. The ZTE Wireless Home Phone Base is used to connect a traditional landline-style phone to our cellular network. You may want to check with ADT directly to see what their system requirements are.

  75. Jenn-Mdfd says

I already have a CC SIM card on my cell phone. I was wondering if I can use that SIM card in a home base instead.

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Jenn, a SIM card from your Consumer Cellular phone should fit in the home base. I recommend contacting us at 888-345-5509 or chatting with us here first, though.

  76. Alex says

I have the ZTE. I need a way to block unwanted calls. What can I do?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Alex, there isn’t a call blocking feature built into the ZTE Wireless Home Phone Base and so this would depend on the handset you’re using with the home base. If you’re getting calls from telemarketers, you can call the Do Not Call registry at 888-382-1222 to have your number added to block those calls.

  77. Laura Kwasky says

I have the home base. How do I get my messages from my home home when I’m away from home?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Laura, you can check your voicemail from another phone by calling your home line. When you’re prompted to leave a message, press the “*” (Star) button, and you’ll then be prompted to enter your voicemail password.

  78. Paul roques says

We have two Consumer Cellular phones and until, recently, a ZTE WF721 base which was purchased from you. Recently I had you discontinue service on the home base number since we haven’t used it in almost a year.
My question is that with the service disconnected will the ZTE base continue to be able to make 911 calls much like a cell phone without service?
I notice that the phones connected to the base still have a dial tone but have thought it wise not to call 911 just to see if it still works for emergency calls 🙂

  79. Janice C Daniels says

If I get the home base, can I take it with me when I travel? If so, exactly how would that work? Do I just plug it into any available phone?

    • Hi Janice, great questions! You can bring the home base with you when you travel. All it would need is a wall plug to plug the base into, and then you would need to have a handset to plug into the base to use with it.

  80. Mark Douglas Stegeman says

Is there any thoughts to having Wifi included with the CC phone base? That way you could access the internet with a laptop or electronic reader device right from home. Just a thought!

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Mark. We don’t offer home internet so that’s not something we’re planning, but we appreciate the suggestion and will pass it along.

  81. Jake says

My sister is currently using a Straight Talk wireless base to provide a landline service to her house. The technical support is horrendous and she is looking for a different provider. She is unable to get a land line without bundling high speed internet and she has no computer or cell phone by choice. After looking at the fees for CC home base and the monthly charge I am wondering if the charge will be the same even if she is not currently a CC cell phone user. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

    • Hi Jake, thanks for your interest in our service! Your sister doesn’t need to have a cell phone with us to get the prices on our website. Those prices are the same even if she just has the CC Home Base for her account.

  82. Jake says

Thank you so much. She will be happy to hear it.
