Twenty Years and Two Million Customers—a milestone we take to heart

As we have been celebrating our 20th anniversary this past week, we’ve spent a lot of time looking back on our early days. We’ve come a long way from the days of analog signals and just a few employees. Sometimes it’s hard to believe it’s only been two decades!

In the past few years, we’ve grown at an incredible rate. When we reached our one-millionth customer mark in February of 2013, who would’ve imagined we’d reach two million just two years later? Well, thanks to you and our dedicated employees, we’re proud to announce that we just did!

The key to our success has always been putting our customers first. That includes having friendly, U.S. based employees ready to help you, no matter what. It means providing a variety of phones, from simple options to the latest iPhone. And most importantly, we know that if we treat customers well and provide a great service, we won’t need a contract to keep them.

After twenty years in business, we also owe great thanks to the community for its unending support. To give back and celebrate the two-millionth customer milestone, we decided to make a $2 million donation to the Knight Cancer Foundation on behalf of each and every one of you. Cancer impacts the community as a whole, so this was the best way we knew to make a major difference for everyone’s future.

To celebrate our recent milestones, we’ve put together a video of key moments along the way. We hope you enjoy looking back as much as we did!

Two-million customers is a great milestone, and we couldn’t have reached it without you. Thanks for being there with us all along the way!

What a great deal. Unfortunatley, as I am an invalid, I don’t get my mail in every day and I missed the “free” day. But, Happy anniversary CC and you are the best deal in town. I know because I checked that W.M. plan for $35 all talk, text, web, etc. But, you not only have to buy the phone, but the sim card and a couple other things as well. By the time you walk out of there you could have spent close to $100 or more. Not the kind of deal I’m looking for.

My only regret about these 20 years is that I missed out on so many of them before I found out about you. Keep up the good work!

If you take comments seriously then call your 888 number right now. Have been waiting for nearly an hour. Last time did call back and you know the answer. You better tell John M to make things better.

Hello. Do you think you will sell windows phones any time soon?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Lawrence. At this time, we don’t offer Windows phones, but we do have customers who are using them with our SIM card option. In most cases, our SIM card will work well with an unlocked, GSM version of most smartphones. It is a great option that allows you to have the phone you want with our award winning service. We’re happy to send a SIM card to you, or you can find one at your local Target or Sears store. If you have any questions, we’re happy to answer them at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

I have been with you quite a while now my first phone was a Doro [fliptop phone] but it was constantly getting lost in my purse & by the time I found it call was gone. So I got my first smart phone. It has been challenging & I have called customer many times, still have some issues that come up but I am in my 70’s & really not of the computer age. I switched from another company that had all of my services, service went down one day & I had to go to neighbors to call them, problems was fixed but that is when I decided to give you a try, you use less machines & your people are very understanding & helpful & being in the minority when it come to using automated anything I really appreciate the human contact. I am still learning my phone but I have learned it is a very good thing to be a Consumer Cellular Customer. Its a big plus to deal with a company that actually respects our country by hiring people to do the work rather than pass on to machines that have no responsibility to follow thru to see if customer is satisfied. GREAT JOB

My husband and I have your Moto G phones. They worked very well, until Motorola unleashed their new lollipop operating system on us. Both of our phones, at this point, are a nightmare, due to this upgrade. They won’t even hold power for more than 3.5 hours anymore….just sayin…….be careful. Downloading this operating system was the biggest mistake I could have made. Unfortunately, we’re not made of money, because if we were, I’d just throw both phones into the garbage right now. Nothing but problems.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for letting us know, Leslie. We’re happy to help you troubleshoot these issues you are experiencing so that you can go back to enjoying your Moto G smartphones. Please give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we’ll do our best to get this resolved for you. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we look forward to assisting you!

I’m proud to say that we’ve been with you since 1999. We had just moved here to North Idaho & saw your ad in the local throw away paper & signed up. I’m sad that you don’t do the free upgrade phones every few years like you use to, but still love the service & tell everyone I know to join.

Thank you for posting, Jan. Gmail is providing other options for your inbox, but for now, it’s an optional feature. Rest assured, your gmail address and login information will still be used for Android devices and for making purchases in the Google Play Store. If there are any new developments affecting our customers, we will be sure to let you know here on the blog and on our social media channels. Thank you very much, Ashley. Now i know this sounds strange i have a used ATT phone and a consumer cellular phone have directions to get it unlocked i want to keep the phone till i can get a different one, keep the original number and i have a consumer cellular sim card in what order do i do this; keep my phone and my number, but change from ATT to consumers cellular?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Jan. If you have one of our SIM cards, but you haven’t activated it yet, please call us at the number listed on the packaging. We’ll be happy to help you transfer your service and your phone number from your current carrier. It sounds like you want to keep your AT&T phone, so you’ll need to make sure it has been unlocked before you use it with our SIM card. That’s it! If you have any other questions for us, we’re ready to help you at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you commenting and look forward to serving you!

Three years with a competitor: as an African American retiree from a maintenance/air traffic background I found myself talking to folks that the customer services was ‘farmed out’ to not stateside and I had a hell of a time getting satisfaction as a CONSUMER. I have had CONSUMER cellular for a month and I have chosen my own plan and complained about stuff that I should have known and I could not be happier. Mike (#29087) on the Customer Service line should be taken to the corporate office to teach customer service. I am an baby old guy at 67 and I feel like a human being thanks to Mikes handling of my account. A raise/letter of commendation/ promotion–something is due.

Continue the good work and figure out a way for the equipment not to become obsolete as soon as we older folk purchase them. Some of these units need to be grandfathered so that the grandfather doesn’t have to continue with progress if we do not desire to.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We really appreciate you taking the time to comment, Kenneth. I’ve passed your kudos on to Mike’s manager so that we can recognize his excellent customer service. Thank you for your feedback, and we promise to continue doing our best to make sure you have a great experience every time you talk with us!
