How to change your Apple ringtone:

  • Go to Settings; find Sounds & Haptics
  • Under Sounds and Vibration Patterns, tap the sound that you want to change
  • Tap a ringtone or alert tone to hear and set it as the new sound

How to set an Apple ringtone or text tone for a contact:

  • Open the Contacts app and tap a person’s name
  • In the upper-right corner of the person’s contact card, tap Edit
  • Tap Ringtone or Text Tone, then choose a new sound

How to buy new Apple ringtones from the iTunes Store:

  • Open the iTunes Store app; tap More
  • Tap Tones
  • Select your desired ringtone; tap the price
  • Choose an option to automatically set the ringtone, or tap Done to decide later
  • If prompted, enter your Apple ID password to successfully complete your purchase

Ringtones for Android smartphones

How to change your Android ringtone:

  • Open Settings on your smartphone; select Sound & Vibration
  • Scroll down and select Ringtone
  • In the Permission request pop-up window, select Allow
  • Under Ringtones, find the menu of preset Android ringtones
  • Select one at a time to hear what they sound like; make your choice

How to set an Android ringtone for a contact:

  • Open the Contacts app on your phone; find the desired contact
  • Open contact’s Settings; select Edit
  • Scroll down and select Ringtone
  • Under Ringtones, choose from preset ringtones; or select Custom and set a personalized ringtone for your contact from a media file
  • Once you’ve selected a ringtone, go back to the Edit Contact page; select Save

How to buy new ringtones for Android with Google Play:

  • Go to Google Play Music; sign into your Google Play account
  • Go to the menu icon and find Music Library; select Songs, then Shop 
  • Click the price of your chosen song to purchase and download
  • Connect your Android smartphone to a computer with USB cable; find the Ringtones folder in the window that pops up
  • Drag your downloaded MPS file to the Ringtones folder on your phone

      Hi James, since the Link II does not have internet access, new ringtones can only be added from audio files on a microSDHC memory card. You can find steps for this in the manual found here.

    How do I make the ringtone last longer? As a disabled person, I need more time to get to my phone before voicemail picks up. My old phone rang for 30 seconds.

    I was hoping to get a new ringtone for my link II. In a previous answer you said that instructions for how to get it off a memory card were in the manual. They aren’t. Is it possible to download an audio file from a computer via bluetooth? If so, what is the correct file format and how do I do it?

    • Hi Flieg, thanks for your message. If the song is on a microSD card you can access it via the music option by going into Menu > Media center > Music.     This is a question that hopefully will get an answer.
    In trying to set up a ringtone for a contact, I get a message that says
    “you have disabled a required permission” What permission is that and how do I get it back? My phone is the ZTE Avid 589 with Android 11 Go Edition.
