How loud is the ringer on this flip phone? Is there any way to test it before purchase? My mother cannot hear her current phone…the ringer is too soft. I’m considering switching carriers to you. Thanks!

    • Hi Tia, thanks for your post! At this time, the phones are not on display at Target to be tested. However, you can try the phone for our 30-Day Risk-Free Guarantee time period to test the phone to see if that would be loud enough for your mom to hear. And if it doesn’t work out, you can return the phone within that time and get everything canceled out if need be and we will waive the invoice for you.

I’m wondering how many cell towers you have and how good the reception is. Is there a high percentage of dropped calls and no service? I live in Jamestown, North Carolina.

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Gregory. I do see that we have good coverage available in Jamestown, NC. The best way to view our coverage is by going here. You can enter your address and view the coverage we offer. We use the nation’s largest GSM networks and cover 99% of the U.S. population.

I would like to refer a future customer, but he doesn’t have an email address. We are planning to go to Target Tuesday to get him the Doro. Is there a way to make the referral?

    • Great question, Annette! What you would want to have your friend do is give us a call at 800-686-4460 and let us know that you referred him to us. He would just need to know your Consumer Cellular phone number so that we can link that up with you to ensure both you, and him, get that $10 referral credit.

Is an unlocked Jitterbug flip phone compatible with Consumer Cellular?

    • Great question, Odis. If the Jitterbug phone is unlocked and is also GSM compatible, it may work on our network. We can’t guarantee compatibility for all models of phone, but we will do everything we can to see if we can get that working on our network for you.

  13. fred says

I see some Targets still have the Alcatel Go Flip and the Link model. Can you tell me the differences between the two before I purchase?

    • Hi Fred, I can certainly go over some of those differences! The CC-Link model offers a slightly larger screen space, a more updated camera, and battery, along with the same large, flat buttons to help you see them better. The Link model is our more updated option that the Alcatel Go Flip but both are great options for a simple phone selection.

      • fred says

Thanks for responding. From what you described, I see no reason to buy the older model and will buy the newer Link model. I am looking forward to the slightly better battery since I felt has been a weak spot with the Alcatel phone.

  14. Margie says

I just bought a consumer cellular link phone. Does any one know if there is any choice in the alarm ring?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Definitely, Margie. When you’re adding a new alarm, you can change the ringtone by going to Clock > Menu > New Alarm > Ringtone. If you want to change it on an existing alarm, then highlight the alarm and select Menu, then Edit, and then Ringtone. The ringtones will play briefly when you highlight them so you can hear them before choosing them.

  15. Rick says

I have an existing C.C. account and want to replace my malfunctioning flip phone with a new C.C. Flip phone. I was wondering since I already have an account, do I simply transfer the existing SIM card over to the new phone and that is all I need to do to get the new phone operaational?

    • Hi Rick, that’s a great question! You can definitely do that to help skip over the step of activating the new SIM card that comes in a new phone. If you have any questions about this process, feel free to give us a call at 800-686-4460 or you can also chat with one of our live agents here.

Hi,happy holidays I just wanted to say after years of over charges with AT&T for data we did not ever use on our old flip phones im happy to say that we are very pleased with our new CCphones and service.we live in the foothills of western nc and get great coverage. The Alcatel Go Flip is mine It has loud ringer and I can here as if the person was in next room.lt of ringtones and other sounds for messenger and alerts.oh and i love my fm radio.and the Doro 7050 is my other half`s she had few problems with it getting stuck over heating but now it seems ok,but just in case we have the extra insurance.great deal guy`s I also ordered A Consumer Cellular LINK as A backup phone just in case of one of our phones fail simply change sim card to the other phone.so the broken phone can be sent in for repairs.its a win win and well worth the price.we have saved around 30 bucks on our montly bill by switching to cc the only regret i have is why didnt i switch years ago.Keep up the great work CC

  17. Sarah says

Can any of CC’s flip phones access the internet? If not, will you be adding a new flip phone model soon, that can? My husband and I have been very pleased with CC’s service and affordability but I’m ready to upgrade my LG flip for something a bit more modern. I don’t need it to stream videos or play games I’d just like to have access to a few apps that offer some daily conveniences. Thank you. Sarah

    • That’s an excellent question, Sarah, thanks for asking! At this time, none of our flip phones have access to the internet and we haven’t heard of any future plans for a new one that will. If that changes at any point though, we’ll let our customers know as soon as possible.

  18. Robert Sadler says

I just purchased a new CC Link phone for my 95 year old mother in law. Since she doesn’t need texting and data I purchased a minutes only plan. Her phone has received two text messages. Will there be a charge for the messages? Is there any way to block incoming and outgoing text messages? Thanks

  19. glenn richter says

Looking for a cheap carry case as it is slippery. What do you recommend?

    • Thanks for your question, Glenn. We do offer a case combined with a car charging cable if you would like to order that for the Link phone mentioned. This can be ordered through the online account, or by giving us a call at 800-686-4460 or using the online account. Otherwise, you can also look at third-party sellers to see if they would have one that would work better.

  20. Janet says

Just received a new flip phone. If there is no internet access, can you please tell me why I have to pay for data? Thank you. Just wondering.

  21. larry says

I will need to buy a new flip phone. I have an CC Alcatel flip and will buy the CC link. Using the same SIM card, will the contacts, voicemail, and texts still transfer to the new phone

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Larry, our team would be happy to help get that ordered with you if you give us a call at 888-345-5509.

  22. Gerald says

Sorry if this is a repeat question: I have a CC Envoy phone and wish to get a newer Link phone. But I want to keep the same phone number. Is it possible to just transfer the SIM card from the Envoy phone to the Link phone? Same size and everything?

    • Thanks for your question, Gerald. The Envoy and the Link actually have different SIM card sizes. The whole size of the phone is comparable to one another and you can actually keep the same phone number without switching the old SIM into the new phone. If you’d like some assistance with getting that ordered, give us a call at 800-686-4460 and we’d be happy to help!

  23. Barbara Blaido says

I set my mail box up for my home phone but I don’t know how to get into it. What do I have to do to get to it?

    • Hi Barbara, thanks for your question. To access your voicemail, you will press and hold down on the number 1 until the phone says dialing voicemail. Once you’re at that stage, it may ask for a security PIN if one is set up before playing your voicemail messages.

  24. Penny Manson says

Is there a way to get a purchased ring tone for my link flip phone?

    • Hi Penny, thanks for your question. We don’t have a way for customers to purchase a ringtone for the device. You may be able to use an Mp3 file though instead if one is downloaded to the phone.

      • LMC says

Hi Jacob, CC is contradicting themselves!
CC stated in prev post to dust, none of their flip phones have internet capability.

SO- it’s impossible, to “download” an MP3 file, re desiring a different ringtone.

Sorry you got bad customer service from CC !!

        • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

I apologize if there’s some confusion with the verbiage, LMC. While our flip phones cannot access the internet, files can still be saved to the phone, or downloaded to the phone, when it is physically connected to a computer using a MicroUSB to USB cord. This includes MP3 files to use as a ringtone.

  25. Steve says

Processing a claim with SquareTrade for the CC Link phone. They want to know the phone manufacturer but I can’t find that info anywhere. Who manufactures the Link?

  26. Steve says

I tried taking a photo with my new smart cell phone and sending it and that did not work … then many icons and the message was “if you are satisfied with your message press one” but there is no friggen keyboard showing how to press a one

    therefore

Now I’m planning how to arrange some woodworking clamps to hold my Consumer cellular smart phone at the edge of my deck in a downward position …
while I get my .22 rifle

    Steve

    • Hi Steve, thanks for reaching out about the trouble you’re having. When sending a photo, the easiest way to do so would be to actually take the picture first with the camera. Once you have the picture saved to the gallery, you can then attach the picture to a text message by tapping on the paperclip and then select the photo that you would like to send. If you have any questions about that process feel free to give us a call at 800-686-4460 or you can also chat with us here.

  27. Carly VanArnam says

My brother has consumer cellular as a carrier. They bought the the link phone for my 82 yearold mother. She keeps turning it down with her hand when she holds it. Is there anyway to lock the volume button?

    • Hi Carly, thanks for your post. There isn’t a way to lock the volume buttons on the phone but she can turn the speakerphone on as an option if that would make it easier for her to hold onto the phone and also hear it as well.

  28. may keng says

  32. Steve says

Reading reviews they state that the micro phone is highly directional and if you don’t hold it just right you can’t be heard. Will that problem be resolved in the future?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Steve, we have not heard of any widespread issues with the microphone on the Consumer Cellular Link. If any issues are being experienced, we recommend reaching out to our customer service team as soon as possible so that we can troubleshoot the issue. All of our brand new phones also come with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty that covers any potential defects.

  33. Gerald Eisenhower says

I just bought a Link phone, which I have not yet activated. Despite the fact that my old phone shows a signal, the Link phone insists there is no signal. I tried going into Settings – Wireless & Networks – Mobile Network, but some of the options that are supposedly supposed to be there (Preferred Network Type and Network Operators) are not there; the only thing I see is Access Point Names.

Is this just because the phone has not been activated, or is there a problem here?

    • Hi Gerald, thanks for your questions! Many features, and service, will not be completely available to a phone until the activation goes through for the new device. Reviewing the account, I do see that you contacted us and activated that new phone. If you have any other questions about the device, just let us know!

  34. Joanne says

Is there an alert on the Link when a text is received?

  35. Robin says

What is the process to make the font larger for reading texts on a Link II flip phone?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Robin, all you have to do is go to Menu > Settings > Display > Font Size and select the desired font size.

  36. Jim says

Does the Link flip phone have GPS capaility

  37. Jim says

I don’ understand, looking at the Link flip phone there is an option to compare it to other phones….when I do that it very clearly says the Link has as a “Feature” GPS…yes or no???

    • Hi Jim, thanks for following up. The GPS in the Consumer Cellular Link helps to pinpoint your location for any sort of FM Radio or similar fear use. It won’t be able to give you directions like a smartphone will be able to.

  38. Rose says

Why does the consumer cellular Link ll redail the last number spoken with without physically dialing the number?

    • Hi Rose, thanks for your question! If the phone is having trouble with redialing numbers on its own, it may be that the top half of the phone is pressing down on the green phone button which will pull up call histories and dial numbers. In those cases, you may be able to put a PIN on the phone, or make sure that when the phone is closed, it’s not pressing down into the buttons.

  39. Mandy Butler says

Does Consumer Cellular carry a flip phone that has T9 text capability?

  40. Mandy Butler says

Hi. I’m not sure that what you are telling me is correct. I have a Link II and it has t12, but not t9. Is there a way to access t9 texting capability?

    • Hi Mandy, thanks for your post! This blog post is related to our older Consumer Cellular Link model which should have the T9 texting feature available. The newer option may only have the T12 option since it is the newer option available on the phone.

  41. Nevin MERCEDE says

If the Link II has no data access, why does my plan include data?

    • Hi Nevin, great question, thanks for your post! The data on the plan and the texting come bundled together so we can’t separate them out. The phone does use it to receive and be able to send those picture messages though.

  42. Chris says

I just bought a Link II and I was wondering about the GPS function as well. I understand that it cannot provide directions but can it be used by someone else with a smartphone or computer to pinpoint the phone’s location? If so, please describe how.

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Chris, GPS on the Consumer Cellular Link II is not able to be used by a separate smartphone or computer to locate your phone.

  43. Jan says

I am interested in converting from my android smart phone (Moto G4 Play) back to flip phones due to privacy and data security concerns. Does the CC Link II flip phone use a small Linux operating system? If so, can you perhaps send me more specifics about the operating system and kernel version. Thank you.

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Jan. The Consumer Cellular Link II runs off of a modified version of Android 10.

  44. Wayne Patricia says

Which flip phones are compatible to consumer cellular. We have been customers for several years now but my husband needs a better flip phone. He just cannot use an iphone. He needs flip phone. The flip phones we’ve been buying just do not last.

    • Hi Patricia, thanks for your question! We offer our Consumer Cellular Link II as an option for a flip phone to purchase directly from us and use. Otherwise, if you’re looking for a phone to purchase from a third party seller, you will need to make sure that the phone is unlocked from other networks, is GSM-compatible, and VoLTE capable. We can’t guarantee compatibility for all models, and we don’t have a list of models that are for sure compatible, but we’ll do all we can to see if we can get a phone connected for you.

  45. Teresa says

Does C.C. link II have Accessibility features? Like black theme, or inversion feature to have white letters on black backgroung?

  46. Joe says

Just got the Link II flip phone. Is there any way to send the same message to more than one person and not have their replies go to everyone? I know that when I form a group and send a message the replies go to everyone in the group. I want to send the same message to multiple people and have their replies come back just to me. Can you help?

    • Hi Joe, thanks for your question. There isn’t a way to send a message to multiple people without it being a group message. The other option would be to send the message to multiple people across multiple messages.

  47. Carolyn Wallace says

I’d like to take a photo on my flip phone (the first one, not the II) and send it via email. Can I do it via the phone? Or will I have to send it via a text message.
I haven’t done either of these before. I’m thinking my days of ‘just a basic phone’ may be coming to an end and I should get a smartphone.

    Help me, please.
    Carolyn

  48. Teresa Benson says

My dads flip phone says for emergency calls only….he can
Not receive calls…when we call his number it goes straight to voice mail? What do we do?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Teresa, I recommend having your dad power his phone all the way off and back on. There was an update recently, so that should resolve the issue. If not, please give us a call at 888-345-5509 or chat with us here.

  49. PAUL RAMM says
