Smartphone Apps of the Month- November

November kicks off the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, which means it’s the time for bringing family and friends together to celebrate Thanksgiving. This month’s recommended apps help smartphone users cook the perfect turkey and stay up to date with this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®.

Turkey Timer: Available on Android

turkey timerHave you ever hosted a Thanksgiving dinner where everything was going smoothly until you pulled the turkey out of the oven to discover it was overcooked or undercooked? If so, you’re not alone. Thankfully, there’s the Turkey Timer app, which will help you cook a delicious dinner and impress your guests.

Turkey Timer is an easy-to-use app that takes the guess work out of cooking your turkey. Simply enter the weight of the bird, select an alarm style, and the app will provide a recommended cooking time and temperature. All you need to do is place the turkey in the oven and start the timer. That’s it! You can then move on to other food preparation or sit back and relax until the app alerts you that it’s time to remove the turkey.

If you’re looking to reduce the stress of cooking Thanksgiving dinner, I recommend downloading Turkey Timer. Bon appétit!

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®: Available on Android and iPhone

Macys appEver since I was a child, one of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions has been watching the Macy’s Parade. I’ve always enjoyed seeing balloons of my favorite comic and cartoon characters and often dreamed of performing atop one of the beautifully decorated floats. Now, with the official app of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, users of all ages can experience the magic of the parade in a whole new way.

This fun and interactive app helps everyone get ready for the popular parade with photos, videos, and up-to-date news for all the floats, balloons, and musical acts. On the big day, users can follow the parade and see who’s coming up next with the app’s live Twitter feed. I really like the Explore section, where you can learn about the parade’s long history and see past photos.

For users lucky enough to watch the parade in person, the app offers tips on finding the best viewing spots along the 2.65-mile course. For the rest of us spectating from our living rooms, there’s a virtual street view that lets you see the balloons up close while providing fun facts about each character.

Kids, big and small, will enjoy the ELF-O-MATIC tool, which lets users create and customize their own parade balloon. Select an elf outfit, take and upload a photo of your face, and then inflate your unique balloon to share on your favorite social media sites.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of the Macy’s Parade or looking to learn more, this app will get you caught up to speed in no time—and you’ll have fun doing it.

I would love to have the new phone, but why??? We have extremely limited signal in our house. We live in a trailer & have trees around-this is -why WE WERE TOLD. So the phone; I have is almost useless> I have to keep a home line because of this. We will be getting a different service soon.Anyone interested in our phones??

I personally like the new layout, it’s much easier to navigate with fewer clicks of the mouse. I also have a lot of trees around us, but reception is always good during the fall and winter months. I know there is an option to receive a better signal but since we will be moving from TN back to MO we won’t consider the option. I hope we can keep our service when we do get moved to Missouri. Consumer Cellular is the best of the four different carriers we’ve tried in the past.

Why on earth did you take such a simple to use site, and make it so complicated ? To put someone to work !

I sure hate hearing negatives about CC. It’s the absolute best we have had. The company is the most generous around. Being on a fixed income their extra minutes have been a blessing!

How do I put in another different wallpaper as my CC default.

    Thanks

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Paul. It depends on your phone, but often it can be changed under the phone settings menu, generally under display or screen. From there, you can choose one of the wallpapers on the phone, or use your own picture. We can help you with that, just call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you for asking!
