Then, choose one of our low cost, monthly Talk and Connect Plans, and replace your current SIM card with the new one. You’ll be able to adjust our 3-in-1 SIM card to match the size your phone requires.

That’s all there is to it—put the new SIM card in your phone and you’ve switched to Consumer Cellular! We’ll even give you a $10 credit on your next invoice, making your SIM card absolutely free! Can the Sim card be replaced on a Galaxy S 3 Smart Phone? I followed the video but the sim card is not under the battery. I have a no contract with Sprint.

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Howard! Does your device accept SIM cards? Typically Samsung devices used on either AT&T or T-Mobile’s networks accept SIM cards. On the other hand, Sprint typically uses a different type of technology; their phones aren’t normally compatible with SIM cards. If you need any additional information, please feel free to contact us by emailing [email protected] or feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you.

Can I use my galaxie s7 with the sims card

        • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Jennifer, if you’re interested in using your Samsung Galaxy S7 with our service it will need to be unlocked, GSM-compatible, and able to use a SIM card. Please understand that we cannot guarantee compatibility but we will do all we can to get your phone working on our service.

I have an Iphone 4 used a couple of years ago with ATT I dont know if it is unlocked. Can I use that phone

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

You may be able to use that with our service, Phil! In general, our SIM cards work best with unlocked GSM phones, such as those used with AT&T. You’ll want to call AT&T to verify that your iPhone has been unlocked, as only your previous carrier can perform that step. Then all you will need is our SIM card, which you can find online here, at your local Target store, or we can help you over the phone at 888-345-5509. It’s that easy! We’re happy to answer any questions you may have about switching to our service, so please don’t hesitate to call. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

Can I sign up with consumer cellular, even though it’s a CDMA smartphone, and program in the settings to GSM, when receive my SIM card ?

          • Hi Mary Ann, that’s a great question! If your CDMA phone is GSM-compatible and unlocked from the provider, it may work on our network and switch over to those settings. We can walk you through making sure the phone is in the GSM mode though if needed once the SIM card is activated and you can also check the IMEI number of the device on our website to see if it’s compatible at all.

I’m thinking about buying a phone from consumer Cellular and does this phone come with sims card ?

      • ryan says

i have a phone through straight talk will it work through you guys or will i have to call to get it unlocked?

        • Hi Ryan, great question. The phone will need to be unlocked from Straight Call, GSM-compatible, and VoLTE capable. We can’t guarantee compatibility for all models, but we’ll do all that we can to see if we can get them connected for you.

    • David R Ferguson says

I need my phone activated I’ve already put in my Sim card.

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, David. I see that Zwati, our account advisor, was able to assist you with this over the phone. We have just ordered our cellular SIM cards for our I10 and I 11 Apple phones. When we install the new cards, do our phones keep our current records ie: pictures, contacts, banking info etc. ?

    • Sharon Kindred says

Will I have to enter all my connections on my new SIM card?

      • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Sharon, when you insert our SIM card into your phone, it doesn’t erase any information on your phone so you shouldn’t need to re-enter any of your previous information into it. However, with the network switch, you would need to make sure that your phone is configured for our data network and we’re happy to help with that if you give us a call at 888-548-6490 or chat with us here.

    • Kathleen says

I’m pretty savvy with my iPhone 8 which I have through Verizon. I’m tired of paying high phone bills- they just upped us 5 dollars again. I’m considering paying the 300.00 I have left on it and making the switch to Consumer cellular. However there seems to be issues from reading the comments and questions below when switching from Verizon. Is there anywhere that I can view the change over steps for changing the settings in my phone? I’d like to switch but only if it’s possible. Thank you

      • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Kathleen, we appreciate the interest. When you’re switching over an iPhone to our service there generally aren’t any changes you need to make to the phone, outside of making sure it is unlocked and GSM-compatible, which can be verified with Verizon. This is because the iPhones automatically detect what network their connecting to when a SIM card is inserted.

      • Latonya says

If I wanted to use my galaxy s9, is there a way to switch my consumer cellular phone info onto that?

        • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Latonya, in order to use your own Samsung Galaxy S9 phone with our service, it will need to be a VoLTE-capable, unlocked, and GSM-compatible phone. Please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee compatibility for all phone models, but our agents will do all they can to resolve any problems.

I have a cricket phone .Can I buy a new cell phone from consumer cellular and just put the old sim card in the new phone

      • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Mark, if you’re interested in transferring to our service then your SIM card from Cricket is not needed. You can transfer your existing number from Cricket to ours, and it’ll be programmed into the SIM card that comes pre-installed on our phone. The number needs to remain active with Cricket, and you’ll need your account number, billing address, and PIN (if there is one).

  2. Frances Barwick says

would love to switch, but unfortunately I have over a year for my contract to expire with A.T.& T. Maybe then your offer will be even better 🙂

  3. howard heller says

Your customer service support is the best I have ever dealt with, bar none. Switched from Verizon who told me that while my android is unlocked it would be a big problem to change carriers. They were correct, they just did not realize how good your service people are. It took some time but we are up and running on all cylinders after changing all the verizon settings. Smart, patient staff ho stay ith you until the job i done. You are worth more than you charge just for that!

    • Rose Livingston says

I also switched from Verizon with my android phone to Consumer Cellular about 5 weeks ago and am having an awful time with this phone . if you have the name of the person you worked with at consumer cellular I would really appreciate if I could request the person. I have worked with 4 people at Consumer Cellular and gone to a service person at Target and each time thought the phone was working right but then it is not working right. Getting very frustrated considering my phone is only 8 months old.

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re sorry to hear that, Rose. We can troubleshoot any issues you’re experiencing if you like at 888-345-5509, so please feel free to call us at your convenience. Thank you for posting, and we look forward to speaking with you soon!

  4. Michael & Susan McCoy says

My wife & I are on Verizon, which includes unlimited calling & unlimited texting. We pay a total of $140 a month, under our daughter’s plan, for both phones. Can you provide significant savings?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Michael. I think you’ll discover that you’ll be able to save a considerable amount, every single month. Here’s a link to more information about our plans and prices. If you need any additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you! https://www.consumercellular.com/shopping/choose/plan

We had Verizon as well at 140 a month for 2 lines. We made the change to consumer Cellular and pay 88 a month for the same excact plan. It’s worth it!

  6. Anette Brown says

I have an iPhone5s, I would like to keep my phone from AT&T but I don’t think it takes a SIM card. how do I go about getting this phone turned on to your service?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Anette! Phones from AT&T definitely accept SIM cards. The SIM card slot on the iPhone 5s is a bit small and rather easy to miss. It’s on the right side of the phone and typically requires a small tool like a paper clip to open it. We can send a SIM card to you free of charge and give you detailed instructions on what to do. If you’re interested in pursuing that further, please feel free to give us at ring at 888-345-5509 and we’ll be more than happy to help. Thank you!

      • Helen Anderson says

        Hi,
Does the same answer apply to me? I have an iphone 5c with Verizon. I’d like to switch to Consumer Cellular, but I can’t see the SIM card slot. Can I use this phone with Consumer Cellular?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for reaching out to us, Helen. Your iPhone 5c does have a SIM card slot, and you can learn more about accessing it here. You may be able to use our SIM card with your iPhone, but we can’t guarantee that it will work. We’re certainly happy to try, and since it is free of charge, you have nothing to lose! You can find our SIM cards at your local Target store, here on our site or we can send you one if you call us at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we hope to see you as a Consumer Cellular customer soon!

  7. Jan Anderson says

My husband lost his cell phone – he had a flip phone – doesn’t text, take photos or use voice mail. We have our plan through US Cellular. Would we be able to get a phone from Consumer Cellular and use his existing phone number?
    Thanks,
    Jan

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Jan. As long as the account with US Cellular is still active and he hasn’t deactivated his phone number, then you shouldn’t have any trouble transferring his phone number over to Consumer Cellular. You’ll need to have your US Cellular account number handy when you’re ready to make the switch. If you’re interested in learning more about this option, please feel free to give us a ring at 888-345-5509 and we’ll be more than happy to help you. Thank you!

  8. Mark Othoudt says

I’m not sure if my phone is unlocked. Is there a way you can tell from the IMEI?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Mark. We can actually use the IMEI number to determine if the phone is unlocked only if the phone in question is an iPhone. If you have a different device, your current service provider may be able to tell you if it’s locked or not. If you need any additional assistance, please feel free to contact us at either [email protected] or at 888-345-5509. Thank you.

Can I have a new simcard for my new Que 5.5″ 4GB Unlocked Android Smartphone. And can I still use my Huawei Mediapad T1 10? Which I am at present using it. Thank you.

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Romerico! We can definitely send you a SIM card for your unlocked Android device, while still maintaining service on your tablet. If you’re interested in ordering one, you can do that by logging in to your account via this link: https://my.consumercellular.com/Login or feel free to give us a ring at 888-345-5509 and we’ll be more than happy to help! Thank you!

  10. Angela Burnham says

We currently have Consumer Cellular and are completely satisfied. We have text and calling only. I was wondering, Can I purchase a prepay internet card for my phone? I am going to take a trip and would like to have internet on my phone while I am traveling.

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for the message, Angela. If you’re traveling domestically, and you already have a plan with text messages, you’ll be able to access the internet as well. That’s due to the fact that our Connect Plans include both text messages and web data for accessing the internet. We’ll be happy to look up your account to discuss the details of your cellphone plan. If you’d like to do that, please feel free to contact us via email at [email protected] or by dialing us at 888-345-5509. Thank you.

  11. Regina says

I have an iPhone 6 Plus with Verizon. How do I know if my phone is unlocked? I have one phone with Consumer Cellular and as soon as the other contract is up in November would like to switch my iPhone to CC. Please advise.

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hello Regina! Phones from Verizon typically aren’t compatible with SIM cards due to the fact that they use a different type of cellphone technology. There are a few exceptions to this rule (possibly iPhone exceptions, too). Verizon should be able to tell you if your phone is compatible with a SIM card, and if it’s unlocked, too. If you need any additional information from us, please feel free to contact us at either 888-345-5509 or via email at [email protected]. Thank you.

  12. Tommi says

Um Hi I’m 13 years old and I wanted to know just because I’m not a senior or retiree, does that mean I’m not allowed to use Consumer Cellular? Just wondering because I know that it’s pretty much meant for older people…

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Tommi! Our service is available to anyone 18 or older. Perhaps a family plan might be the best fit? We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting!

  13. Maria says

We currently have a LG 3G TracFone and would like to know if we can still keep our phone number as we switch over to CC. Thank you.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

You can definitely keep your number, Maria! Just be sure to leave your previous account open until we complete the number transfer. Once we’ve verified that your number is now with Consumer Cellular, feel free to cancel with your old provider. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have about making the switch at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  14. Vikki says

I have an Amazon Fire Phone. I am currently with AT&T with that contract due to expire early September. will this phone work with CC? My husband has an account with CC and would like to ditch AT&T and be the 2nd phone on his account. I also have an iPad mini – will that work on CC?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Vikki! Phones and other devices used previously with AT&T are a good fit with our SIM cards. You’ll just want to confirm with your previous carrier that your phone or iPad are unlocked as that needs to be done on their end first. Then all you need is the SIM card! If you’re ready to get started, just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we will be happy to help you. We appreciate you taking the time to comment, and we hope to see you as a customers soon!

  15. Grace says

Hi! My son has been in India this summer and really likes the smartphone he bought there. He’s wondering if he could bring it back and add it to our Consumer Cellular account. It takes a SIM card, but I don’t know whether it would be compatible with your network. How can he tell? Or is it the case that India uses a different network technology that wouldn’t be compatible in any case? He briefly used a phone from the US (don’t know the kind) in India by replacing the SIM card — but I don’t know if he could go the other way. He’s never particularly liked a phone before so I’d like him to keep this one if he can — but if he knows he can’t bring it home he’ll probably sell it or give it away before he returns. Thank you!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Grace! Our SIM card works well with most unlocked, GSM phones. If his current phone falls within that category, he will likely be able to bring it with him to your Consumer Cellular account. If he has any questions, he can email us at [email protected] and get more details if needed. Thank you for asking!

  16. JIMMY says

I have a trac-phone LG, cannot remove card. What is the cost of your phones?

  17. I have a verizon Galaxy4.
Is a sim card going to work?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking! While our SIM card works best with unlocked GSM devices, some newer smartphones that have a SIM slot can be used with our service. If your device has a SIM slot, we recommend trying our free SIM card to test it. It’s risk-free, and easy to do. You can find our SIM cards on our website here, at your local Target or Sears store or we can help you over the phone at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post, and we look forward to assisting you!

      • Jerome says

I am on an account with CC. and got the BYOP Sim Kit we put in another CC phone. Question is … I do have a Galaxy s4 from verizon with sim slot same size as the Moto E CC phone I am currently using. Would it be possible to slip the SIM Card in my verizon and see if it will work since I have it in my CC phone?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Jerome. That would be a good way to see if the Galaxy S4 would work with our service. Just be sure to be very careful handling the card and be mindful of the delicate gold contacts. We’re happy to assist you at 888-345-5509 if you have any questions during the process. Thank you for posting!

I have a Alcatel phone can I use my sims card?

          • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

          • Hi Nelson, thanks for your post. If the Samsung is unlocked from Virgin Mobile and is GSM-compatible, it may work on our network. We can’t guarantee that all models will connect to our service, but we’ll definitely do all that we can to see if we can get it working for you.

  18. Dominic says

I have a Samsung Verizon phone and want to get the sim card because I like my phone. I went to Target and they told me that Verizon cell phones do not accept your sim cards

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s a great question, Dominic. In general, phones used previously with AT&T or T-Mobile are the best fit. However, some newer smartphone options have the ability to use our SIM cards without any issue. The best way to find out is to try one of our SIM cards with your Samsung phone. It’s risk-free, and simple to do. We’re happy to get one on the way to you if you call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting today!

Is the sim card compatible with the straight talk phones. We have an android phone with 3g of memory

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Sandra! If the Android phone is a GSM device, our SIM card will likely be a good fit. You’ll just need to make sure it has been unlocked by your previous carrier. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

I contacted Motorola support. I think I have resolved my questions. I needed to update all the apps on my phone when I updated the software. So I’m grateful (so far) for the advice from the Motorola support team. I just wish that when the Android software is updated, it doesn’t automatically update the additional apps – many identified as Motorola or android apps – at the same time.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re glad to hear that you were able to resolve the issue, Leslie! It’s always a good idea to make sure you have the most recent versions of your favorite apps, especially after a software update. That way, you’ll always have the best experience. If we can assist you with any issues or questions you may have, feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting!

  21. Michael Dale says

Not as easy you say. Order 2 AT&T SIM cards. Received 1 AT&T and 1 T-Mobile. Used AT&T sim and activated 1 phone. Called and got Alan AT&T card sent out. 9 days after placing 1st order tried to activate phone. Would not work. No network detected. Was told to wait 24 hours and it should come up. 24 hours later, still not working. Called again. Apparently Consumer Cellular had not activated the AT&T sim. Did that and now I’m waiting for another 24 hours. It’s been 12 hrs so far and still not working.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We do apologize for any frustration, Michael. On occasion, the process can take a day or so as some settings are adjusted and the number transfers are completed. I took a look at your account, and I’m so glad to see that we were able to confirm that everything is now working. If we can assist you with anything else, please feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for sharing your experience with us, and we hope you have a great day!

  22. Melissa says

Hi, I currently have an iPhone 6 (purchased through consumer cellular) that has been broken beyond repair. I have been given an unlocked iPhone 6 (previously a verizon phone). Can I use this new phone in place of my old phone?
    Thanks

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Melissa. The best way to find out is to take the SIM card from your old iPhone and place it in the unlocked iPhone 6. While we can’t guarantee that your new phone will work with our service, we’re happy to try! We may need to adjust some settings on our end, so please call us at 888-345-5509 from another phone, and we’ll be happy to help you. Thanks again for posting!

    • Cameo says

Were you able to use your Verizon phone? I would love to give my mom my verizon iPhone but unsure if it will work for her Consumer Cellular service. She lives in a different state so can’t just try it.

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Cameo! If the iPhone you’re looking to give to your mother has a SIM card slot, it may work with our service. She may even be able to test it with the SIM card from her current phone. If we can answer any other questions for you, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

We agree, Beverly, that is frustrating! I’ve taken a look at your account, and everything looks good on our end for your data connection. Please turn your phone off, then back on again. That should allow your connection to reset. If this issue continues, we’re happy to make some further adjustments to some settings. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we can assist you. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

  25. patsy says

I have an att phone which I canceled. Can I bring it in, get a sim card and it will work? Also do you have to be a member of aarp to use this?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Those are great questions, Patsy. It sounds like your phone would be a good fit with our SIM card, but you’ll want to check with AT&T to make sure it is unlocked first. Unfortunately, we can’t assist you with that. You also don’t need to be an AARP member to use our service, but members do receive a 5% monthly discount on their usage. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to post, and we hope to see you as a customer soon!

  26. Nadine Hixson says

I just bought a Galaxy S7 from AT&T, is it compatible with your SIM card?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Nadine. In general, phones used previously with AT&T are a good fit with our service, but you will need to have it unlocked first. Unfortunately, that must be done by the previous carrier. Once you’ve done that, all you need is our free SIM card! Can I buy a prepaid phone and put my Consumer Cellular SIM card into the prepaid phone? My phone unexpectedly quit and I need a cheap phone. Thanks!

That’s a great question, Kaylee. In general, our SIM cards work well with unlocked phones used previously with AT&T or T-Mobile. These can also be referred to as “GSM phones”. While we can’t guarantee that a phone sold by another provider will work with our SIM card, those types of phones work pretty well. We do have phones starting at just $30, so you may find a better fit here on our site. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509 at your convenience. Thank you for reaching out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

Can I take the sim card out of my current phone and put it into another unlocked phone and it’ll work? I read that I have to save the contacts before removing the sim card. Is that true? How do I do that?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re happy to answer your question, Jeff. You should be able to take your SIM card out of your current phone and put it into an unlocked phone, as long as the new device is GSM compatible. We may need to walk you through some settings and adjust them if you are planning to use data. It won’t take long, and we can do it over the phone with you. As for your contacts, you can transfer them to your SIM card before you switch. Just open your Contacts app, and this option should be found within the menu. If you run into any issues, just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we can walk you through it. Thank you for posting, and we hope you have a great day!

I have a branded net10 phone that I bought new spring of 2017 from Kroger, it is a Galaxy Sky. we buy service month to month from net10, there is no contract. can I use this phone with your service? from what I see I can get text and minutes for both my wife’s phone and my phone for less money than just her phone thru net10. my phone is a T Mobile Alcatel one touch (t mobile printed on phone) that was given to me and I have never had it activated but use it only as a wifi phone. before it was given to me I know it was activated to a service but not sure what carrier they was using, I think T mobile but not sure. can this phone be activated with your service? Since I use less than 200 minutes a month and very few text, and data I use at home thru wifi I thought about adding my phone to the 1500min for $20.00 and adding unlimited text for $10.00 then pay the $10.00 for sharing my wifes line, would this be the most economical route for my wife and I? please answer asap I add service the 22nd of each month and would like to switch before this is due.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Please keep in mind that we aren’t able to guarantee that a device sold elsewhere will work with our service. You can test your phone with our SIM card to see if it will work. It’s risk-free and easy to do. You can order a SIM card here on our website, pick one up at a Target store, or we can help you order one if you call us at 888-345-5509. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any other questions. We apprecite you taking the time to comment!

CanI port a at&t landline to my consumer cellular account?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Richard. In most cases, it’s very easy to transfer your landline number to your account. You can use it with a cellphone, or even use your home phone with our Wireless Home Phone Base. You can learn more about this great option here. To start the transfer, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. It’s best if you have a recent bill from your landline provider on hand so that you can provide any needed account information. And please remember, you won’t want to cancel your landline account until we’ve confirmed that the transfer to Consumer Cellular is complete. Thank you for taking the time to post, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  66. Kevin says

Hello. I just switched my service to Consumer Cellular from Verizon and migrated my existing phone number to a new iPhone SE. That went fine. I’m also adding another line and we had an ATT iPhone 7 that we ordered a Consumer Cellular SIM card for. Upon, removing the old ATT SIM card and installing the CC SIM card, we’re getting a SIM Not Valid notice. It has “the SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information.” I thought ATT phones would be fine with a new Consumer Cellular SIM? The SIM I removed was an ATT SIM and I know it was an ATT phone as the phone belonged to someone I know. Thanks.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Kevin. It sounds as if the phone has not been unlocked by the previous carrier. We aren’t able to do that for you, but you can call AT&T and request that the phone be unlocked. Once that is complete, we’re happy to walk you through adding the SIM card and seeing if that resolves the issue. If you have any questions, please call us at 888-345-5509 and we will be ready to assist you. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  67. Curtis Kent says

Hi I am going to buy a Motorola G5S Plus model XT1806 phone and I want to switch to CC network. It looks like this phone will work on both AT&T network and T-mobile network. When I ask for a sim card from you do I request which network I want or do you send me 2 sim cards so I can see which network works best at my house. Or can you recommend which network I should use.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Curtis. We can take a look at the coverage in your area, and in areas you frequent often, and give you an idea of what type of coverage to expect and which SIM card will be the best option for you. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we will be happy to assist you. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we look forward to speaking with you soon!

  68. Barry Burns says

I don’t have an activation code how do I activate my old phones

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Barry! I was able to take a look at your account, and I see that you ordered new SIM cards. Once you’ve received them, just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we can help you setup your phones. We appreciate you posting, and we look forward to assisting you!

  69. Fay says

Hello! If I send you my IMEI number can you look up to see for sure if our phones are compatible with your services? We’re with US Cellular, which usually uses CDMA, but our particular phones are GSM compatible. We have a Samsung SM-J727R4 and a Kyocera Hydro Elite. We were told that they are not compatible with Tello’s CDMA service, but is compatible with Ting’s GSM — but we like your plans better than Ting’s. 🙂 We’d like to know if they will be compatible, before we pay the lump sum necessary to pay off and unlock our smartphone.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Fay. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to use the IMEI number to see if your phone is compatible. In most cases, unlocked GSM phones work well with our SIM card, such as those used with AT&T or T-Mobile. If we can answer any other questions you may have about our plans or about our SIM card option, we’re happy to assist you at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to learn more about our service, and we hope you have a lovely day!

  70. Jorgia says

Hi i have a iphone 4s that won’t take the consumer cellular sim card. What do i do?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Jorgia. We’re happy to walk you through inserting a SIM card into your iPhone 4s at 888-345-5509. We can ensure that it is inserted properly and troubleshoot any connection issues you may be experiencing. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us, and we look forward to speaking with you soon!

  71. E McGirr says

Does your Consumer Cellular SIM card work on ZTE Z222 Go Phone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking! In general, our SIM card can be used with most fully unlocked GSM phones, such as those used previously with AT&T or T-Mobile. If you like, you can try our SIM card with your phone risk-free. All you need is one of our SIM cards, which you can order over the phone at 888-345-5509, on our website here or you can get one at your local Target store. We appreciate you taking the time to learn more about this great option, and we hope you have a lovely day!

  72. Georgia R Sales says

Does Consumer Cellular sim cards work in a LG G3 from Verizon

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Georgia! In general, our SIM card works best with unlocked GSM devices, such as those used previously with AT&T or T-Mobile. You can learn more about our SIM card here on our website. You’re welcome to try our SIM card with your device, but please know that we aren’t to guarantee that a device sold elsewhere will work with our service. If you have any other questions about our service or our SIM card, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

  73. Beverly Reliford says

If I transfer my phone to Consumer Cellular will I keep existing minutes on my phone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Beverly! If you are using a prepaid service, you may not be able to use the existing minutes provided by your current carrier. We recommend that you check with them about their policies regarding unused minutes. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have about making the switch to Consumer Cellular at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us, and we hope you have a lovely day!

  74. Pam says

I have an LG Tribute HD with Virgin Mobile. I want to switch to Consumer Cellular but do not want to lose what’s in/on my phone. How do I do this?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Pam! The good news is that there are a few different ways you can remove and transfer information from your old phone. First, if you’re moving to an Android phone, you can use the same Google account information. This will allow you to easily install the same apps as you had before. If you’ve chosen to store your contacts via your Google account, those will transfer easily as well. To move files and photos, an SD card is a simple option, or you can use a computer. We’re happy to suggest more solutions if you like at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us, and we hope to speak with you soon!

  75. Dan Schaffrin says

I am buying a TracFone Samsung Galaxy J7 Skyphone, how do I know if it is unlocked and if it has a sim card that I can switch to Consumer Cellular?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Those are good questions to ask, Dan! First, please keep in mind that unlocked GSM phones work best with our SIM cards, such as devices used previously with AT&T or T-Mobile. You’ll need to confirm with the original carrier that it is fully unlocked, as unfortunately, we aren’t able to unlock them on our end. To use our service, you’ll need one of our SIM cards, and that process is very simple. Just visit your local Target, order via our website here or give us a call at 888-345-5509 to get one. We’ll even give you a credit so the SIM card is free of charge. If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We’re always happy to help! Thanks for posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  76. Serene says

I have a brand new Tracfone from two years ago. My question is: Can I transfer my current Consumer Cellular SIM Card to the Tracfone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Serene. First, you’ll need to make sure the Tracfone device is unlocked, which will need to be done by the original carrier. Next, you’ll want to see if it uses GSM technology, as those phones work best with our service. Once you’ve done that, you can try moving your Consumer Cellular SIM card to the phone to test it, and you’ll know for sure. We’re happy to help you with any questions along the way, so give us a call at 888-345-5509 at your convenience. Thanks for posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  77. Donna Shawn says

I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 5. We had the SIM card installed at Target. I can make and receive calls. Texts can only be sent and received from one person — no group texts and no pictures can be received or sent. I have no data capabilities. Any ideas about what the problem might be?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for reaching out to us, Donna. We’re happy to help you troubleshoot this issue and see if any settings on your phone need to be adjusted. Please give us a call at 888-345-5509 at your convenience, and we will be ready to assist you. If possible, please call us from another line, as we may need you to power your phone off and on during the call. We appreciate you posting, and we look forward to assisting you soon!

    • Michael C says

Donna, what ended up happening with your note 5? I am having the exact same issues.

  78. Jo-Anne Greene says

I cancelled my consumer cellular contract a few months ago as I was out of the country. I had my CC iPhone 5s unlocked as I thought I was going to get another prepaid SIM card when I returned this week. I found out my local Verizon store can’t provide a compatible SIM card for this phone. Can I reactivate the Sim that is still in this phone? Or do I need to go to somewhere like Target to get another Sim?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Jo-Anne. You will need to get a new SIM card for your device, and you can do that at your local Target store. They will be happy to help you get setup. If you have any other questions about the SIM card or your service, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. We hope you have a great day!

  80. Jim Nolet says

Is the Verizon Galaxy S7 compatible with Consumer cellular SIM cards? We are thinking of switching to CC, but want to keep our present phones

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for taking the time to learn more about our service, Jim. Our SIM card works best with unlocked GSM devices, such as those used previously with AT&T or T-Mobile. If you like, you can test your devices with our SIM card to verify that they will work. You’ll find our products at your local Target store, here on our website or we can help you at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a lovely day!

  81. Jeff says

Hi, Will an unlocked version of the Motorola Moto Z2 play work on consumer cellular’s network? The Motorola website says to check with your carrier for compatibility. But they sell an unlocked GSM version, so I assume it will work. Can you confirm? It requires a Nano-SIM card. Will I need a new SIM card?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Jeff. For best results, we recommend a fully unlocked GSM device, so it sounds as though that device may work. While we can’t guarantee that a device sold elsewhere will work with our service, you can certainly test it with the SIM card from your current device. Our SIM cards include all three sizes (nano, micro and standard), but if a new one is needed, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting today!

  82. Jeff Tipton says

I have a micro-sim in my phone today. Can I remove the trim from this sim card and turn it into a nano-sim for a new phone that requires a nano? Or will you have to send me a new nano-sim card?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Jeff. We do offer a 3-in-1 SIM option, so you may be able to remove the outer section of your current SIM card to use the Nano option. If that doesn’t work, we can send you a SIM card, or you can pick one up at your local Target store. Either way, it’s quick and simple. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

  83. Steve says

We are ready to switch but we all have iPhones currently with Verizon. How do we switch without having problems?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Steve. We recommend verifying that your current phones are fully unlocked by your current carrier, and if you’re planning to keep your current numbers, be sure to have a recent invoice handy when you start service with us. It will help ensure that all of the information needed to transfer your numbers is easily accessible. If you like, we can help guide you through the process and answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. We’re excited to welcome you to our service, and we look forward to speaking with you!

  84. Chris 'money' says

you can always go to your local Target Tech located inside many Target stores but not every Target we can assist you with installation of a SIM card into your own device we can also assist you with activating a new consumer cellular device when you purchase it at Target. Sears no longer supports consumer Cellular.

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Elaine, if you need a new SIM card sent to you then please give us a call at 888-345-5510 or chat with us here. If you need help removing the SIM card from your Apple iPhone 7, you can find instructions here.

  86. Helen Lenard says

I’m contemplating switching from Virgin Mobile to Consumer Cellular. I have several hundred dollars in my Virgin account and hate to lose that money when I switch carriers. Are there any phones that are sold on the Virgin Mobile site that would be compatible with Consumer Cellular? Thank you

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Helen, in order to use any phone from another provider with our service, it will need to be unlocked and able to use a SIM card. We cannot guarantee compatibility for all phone models, but our agents will do all they can to get the phone working on our service. If you have any concerns about the credit balance on your account with Virgin Mobile or their return policy, then we recommend contacting them directly

  87. Oscar says

Do boostmobile fhone. Work with. Consumer cellular?

    • Thank you for your question, Oscar! If the phone is unlocked and can take a SIM card, it may work with our service. While we cannot guarantee compatibility with all devices, our agents will do all they can to get it up and running on our network.

  88. Karen says

hi I have an iphone 4 hat I got through the government free phone program Reachout Wireless years ago.. Verizon was the carrier and recently said they can’t reactivate my phone and that my number is being recycled to the government or something, but my phone still states that the number is attached to it and online lookup of that phone number says I/my name is the owner.. Is it impossible to get service through you with my same phone and number? Thank you

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Karen, while we cannot comment specifically for other providers and their policy regarding holding numbers, it is not uncommon for a carrier to only be able to hold a number for a limited amount of time, such as 30 days. Generally, once the time has passed the number is recycled back into the system for someone else to use. If that is what they have told you, then you’ll need to get a new number.

For your phone, it will need to be unlocked and able to use a SIM card. We can’t guarantee compatibility, but we’ll do all we can to get it working.

  89. Terry T says

I have an iphone 6s+ gsm unlock & get “iphone is not activated”. The instructions on your web site refer to a code on the box. I didn’t get a box-I got a USPS priority mail envelope. I don’t see this code anywhere.

    Thanks

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Terry, I see that you were able to speak with our agents to get your transfer and activation started, and it has since been completed. If you haven’t already, I recommend powering the phone off and back on. You can then test the service by calling 888-460-8781. If you’re still having trouble, I recommend giving us a call at 888-345-5509 or starting a live chat with us here.

  90. Randy says

I have an iPhone X and want to switch to your service, but I am moving to Mexico. Will your service work there.

  91. Elizabeth says

Will A Consumer Cellular Sim Card Work With A Boost Mobile Phone? I’m trying to switch but I have no idea if a boost mobile phone would take CC Sim Card.

    • Hi Elizabeth, that’s a great question! If your phone with Boost Mobile is unlocked from them and able to use a SIM card, it may work with our network. We cannot guarantee that all models will be compatible with our service, but our agents will do all they can to get that going for you. We can also send a SIM for you to test the service out with to see if the phone and the SIM card will be compatible with each other under our Risk-Free Guarantee 30 Day time frame.

  92. Larry says

Do you carry a Sprint sims card?
I have tried the AT&T and I have a TMobile now in it but don’t have service where I live. Everyone says I need Sprint.

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Larry. I’m sorry to hear that there’s trouble with the service in your area. Because we only use AT&T and T-Mobile towers for our service, we do not have the option to switch you to the Sprint network. You can give us a call at 888-345-5509 or chat with us here and we’ll be happy to look into the service for you.

  93. Larry Williams says

My wife and I have straight talk and would like to come over to Consumer Cellar. My question is we want to bring our phone numbers with us but would like to get new phones from consumer cellular, how would one go about this?

    • Excellent question, Larry! Thanks for taking the time to post. What you would do is during the order process, add those new phones to your cart. It will prompt you with a question about whether you’d like to transfer a number or not to which you would say yes. After you enter your billing information and get ready to submit your order, it’ll ask you for the number you’d like to transfer to us. It will also ask for basic billing information from Metro PCS so if you have a current invoice from them, I’d recommend having it available to reference so that way we can get the number released to us. It will also need to stay active during that transfer period in order to make the switch as well.

  94. Steven W. says

Hi my mom give me her old iPhone 6s Plus because she got a New one she had at&t then she switch to sprint before giving me her old phone and already had it unlock phone by at&t last week I got a SIM card at target but the SIM card is say not supported under activation policy why am I getting this when the phone is already unlocked I’m really new to iphone

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Steven, if your SIM card from Target has been activated and you’re receiving that error on the iPhone, then you may need to fully restore the phone, which can be done by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. If the service still isn’t working on the iPhone, then please feel free to call us at 888-345-5510 or chat with us here.

  95. Brian W Aherne says

I am a happy Consumer Cellular customer. While my bought-with-me ZTE Blade V8 is fine, I would like to try a watch phone. I see there are a number of them in the standalone category which appeals to me (many others require a paired cell phone to operate properly) since I do not want to carry both. Does Consumer Cellular have SIM cards that work with the standalone variety?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for taking the time to post, Brian. Because most Watch Phones use an eSIM for the service, they aren’t compatible with us because we do not have eSIM support. If the Watch Phone that you’re interested in uses a traditional SIM card, such as a micro or nano SIM, then you can try using it with our service but we cannot guarantee compatibility and available troubleshooting will be limited. As with any device, it would need to be unlocked, GSM-compatible, and able to use a SIM card.

      • Brian says

Is there any plan to add esim support? This is my one complaint about your service. The coverage and prices are fantastic, but I miss being able to use my esim watch that I could use on Verizon.

        • Great question, Brian, thanks for your post. At this time, we have not heard of any near future plans to have support for eSIM cards. However, if that changes at any point moving forward, we will let our customers know as soon as possible. I will also go ahead and send your feedback up to the appropriate department so that it can be looked into for the future. Thank you!

I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 which I bought outright (so it isnt locked)..and am currently on a Verizon unlimited plan which is going to be $116 mo.. (one line one user).. Is this phone able to be changed over to Consumers..and can you access the internet from the Consumers network just like I can on Verizon when there is no Wi-Fi source available?

    • Hi Dave, great question! With the phone being unlocked, if it’s GSM-compatible, it may work on our network. We can’t guarantee that all models will be compatible with our service, but we’ll do all that we can to see if we can get it working on our network.

  97. Ty H says

Can I switch my landline number with CenturyLink over to a new consumer cellar cell phone?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Definitely, Ty. You can switch over a CenturyLink landline number to a cell phone on our service. To do this, your CenturyLink account information will be required so we recommend having an invoice on-hand when starting service. Additionally, your service address with CenturyLink (ie. where the service is used) will be needed as well, if it’s different than the billing address.

  98. Charlie says

I have an old Tracfone Moto E, 3G phone that I still have after I upgraded to a new phone with them. How can I tell if it is unlocked or not and will a Consumer Cellular SIM card work? I am thinking about giving the old phone to a relative.

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

That’s a great question, Charlie. You can check the unlock status by calling your provider directly, and you can also ask them if the phone is GSM-compatible and LTE-capable. We aren’t able to guarantee compatibility, but we will do all we can to get the phone working if the necessary criteria is met.

  99. Eddie says

I just ordered SIM cards to switch our phones too! And I have at and prepaid phones can I still use the cards on my pre paid at and t phones?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Eddie. If you’re interested in bringing over your own phone, it will need to be a VoLTE-capable, unlocked, and GSM-compatible phone. We can’t guarantee compatibility, but we generally have good experiences with phones previously used on AT&T’s service.

  100. Thomas says

    Hello,

Would a Motorola phone StarTAC Flip Cell Phone work with the Consumer Cellular network?

    Thank you.

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Thomas, if you’re referring to the Motorola StarTAC that was first released back in 1996, that phone would not be compatible with our service. In order to use your own phone on our service, it needs to be unlocked, GSM-compatible, and VoLTE capable, which the StarTAC is not.

  101. Paula down says

Can I switch my Iphone 6+ with Verizon as my carrier to your service.

    • Hi Paula, thanks for your interest! If your iPhone is unlocked from Verizon, is GSM-compatible, and VoLTE capable, it may work on our network. We can’t guarantee compatibility for all models, but we’ve had good experiences in the past with iPhones switching to our service as long as the mentioned criteria is met.

  102. Roger says

I broke my phone and bought the same one, removed SIM card from old device and put into new one. Now what how do I get phone to activate?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Roger, if you swapped an already active SIM into your new phone, then all you need to do is power the phone off and back on. If it’s not working, please give us a call at 888-345-5509 or chat with us here.

  103. Paul BRAY says

i have iphone 12 pro max 512 with AT&T this locked at this time- when I get AT&T to unlock-what do i need from them to list with you people–will i need a pin number some people are telling me that they have to give me a pin number what is that–i want to keep my same number
    Thanks

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Paul. Some providers will require a PIN (or password) in order to transfer, or port out, your number to another provider. Your account number with them would be required as well. You can reach out to AT&T to check if a PIN will be needed, as it’s not always required.

  104. Dominic says

Can I switch my AT&T landline service to one of your plans and keep my current phone number?

    • Hi Dominic, thanks for your interest! You can switch your landline number over to our service as long as the number remains active with the current provider during the transfer process, you can switch it over. We will also need the current account number, PIN number if there is one, billing address, and the account holder’s first and last name to submit to your current provider so that they will release the number to us so we would recommend having a bill readily available for this process.

  105. Danny Swift says

We can definitely help with that, Danny. You can give us a call at 888-345-5509 or chat with us here to change your number.

  106. Terry says

I have a question. I have a new REVVL 4+ phone and I am currently using it on the MetroPCS Cellular service.

Can I use this phone on the Consumer Cellular network (that is after I get the Consumer Cellular SIM card) ?

    • Hi Terry, thanks for your interest! If your phone is unlocked completely, is GSM-compatible, and VoLTE compatible, it may work on our network. We can’t guarantee compatibility for all models but we’ll do all that we can to see if we’re able to get it working for you.

  107. Bruce Trezevant says

I have a new TracFone (Samsung) and I want to switch it over to Consumer Cellular is this possible?

    • Hi Bruce, thanks for your interest! If your phone is completely unlocked from Tracfone, is GSM-compatible, and VoLTE capable, it may work on our network. We can’t guarantee compatibility for all models, but we’ll do all that we can to see if we can get that working for you.

Thank you for posting, David. We appreciate the interest. to use your own iPhone with our service, it needs to be a 6 or newer, unlocked, and GSM-compatible. Please keep in mind that we can’t guarantee compatibility, but we generally have good experiences with iPhones on our service. You can also transfer your existing nmber from Boost to our service, it just needs to be active with them until the transfer has fully completed.

I’m still on a 4g unlocked Samsung S9+ and I was wondering when I go to a 5g phone if I can change out the consumer cellular ATT sim with a Tmobile consumer cellular sim since they have more 5g coverage? Thanks

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, EA. If you switch to a 5G-compatible phone, all you would need to do is swap the SIM card. A new one isn’t necessary as 5G connectivity is based on the device instead of the SIM card.

  115. EA says

Thank you concerning 5g connectivity but I meant 5g based on coverage so I was thinking getting the CC T-Mobile based sim at Target and swap that from my ATT consumer cellular based one. I’d assume that’d be no trouble with my account and moving over phone number? Thanks.

    • Hi EA, thanks for your question. There is an internal switch that takes place between the two sets of towers but other than that, it’s a very easy switch. If you need any help with that, just give us a call at 800-686-4460 or chat with one of our agents here.

When I change my iPhone 8 over to Consumer Cellular do I lose any existing voicemails or text messages…?

Also, will I have to re-record my voicemail greeting?

    • Hi Neil, thanks for your message. If your iPhone is unlocked from the other carrier, is GSM-compatible, and VoLTE capable, it may work on our network. We can’t guarantee compatibility for all models, but we have had success in the past with iPhones switching over to our network as long as they meet the mentioned requirements. You would lose voicemails and would need to set up your voicemail again once it’s set up. If you’re using the same phone, the text messages should remain.

  117. Neil Storer says

How long does it take to move my phone number from ATT to Consumer Cellular or does it happen as soon as I put the nwe SIM into my phone?

    • Hi Neil, great question. The transfer process is one we recommend completing before you put our SIM card in the phone since they’re separate processes. Once you receive the SIM from us, give us a call at 800-686-4460 or chat with us here to get it started.

will my TCL A507DL phone work on the Consumer Cellar network? it does accept sim cards

    • Hi Billy, thanks for your interest! If your phone is unlocked from other networks, is GSM-compatible, and VoLTE capable, it may work on our network. We can’t guarantee compatibility for all models, but we’ll do all that we can to see if we can get it connected for you.

  119. Sabrina says

Hello is my Samsung Galaxy A72 compatible? It is completely unlocked.

    • Hi Sabrina, thanks for your interest in our service! If your phone is completely unlocked, is GSM-compatible, and VoLTE capable, it may work on our network. We can’t guarantee compatibility for all models, but we’ll do all we can to see if we can get it connected for you.

I bought a new ‘open box’ phone from a reputable popular seller. It is GSM, AT&T, unlocked BUT the IMEI says I cannot use this phone. I followed ALL of your parameters from you website. The seller said just put the sim in, follow install instructions and should work fine. They do this all day long. Help! I bought a beautiful S10+.

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for taking the time to post, Kristina. While we do have customers successfully bring over their own phones if they’re unlocked, GSM-compatible, and VoLTE-compatible with our service, we cannot guarantee compatibility for all models as there are phones that won’t work on our service. I apologize if there was any confusion.

  121. Michael Lancaster says

If we have new iPhone 13’s that have never had service on them, what is the process for getting set up with Consumer Cellular?

    • Hi Michael, thanks for your interest! If the phones are unlocked, GSM-compatible, and VoLTE capable, all we would need to do is send out our SIM card and get you signed up for service if you haven’t already. We can’t guarantee compatibility for all models, but we’ve had good experiences in the past with iPhones switching to our network as long as they meet the mentioned requirements. Give us a call at 800-686-4460 for further assistance with this process.

I have a samsung galaxy A12 that I bought from Spectrum that I am switching to Consumer Cellular. When I called to get what I needed to switch I was not told that I would need to get my phone unlocked, but later found out that I would. So I called Spectrum and got a code to unlock it, but now when I get a text message with an attachment, I can’t download the attachment. I called customer service and went through a lot of changes to the settings, but it still doesn’t work.
I called back and was told that they have done all they know to do. I am very disappointed with your service because of all this, it is not at all as advertised. Any suggestions as to what I can do?

    • Hi Vernon, thanks for your post. I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you’re having with this. When bringing over a third-party phone, we cannot guarantee compatibility for all features. I would advise making sure data is enabled and working in the phone to allow for those to come in and out properly. If you continue to have trouble, give us a call at 800-686-4460 or chat with one of our agents here for further assistance.

I have a galaxy 3 orbit using track phone. Will consumer cellular work with it

    • Hi Mike, thanks for your question. If your phone is unlocked completely, is GSM-compatible, and VoLTE capable, it may work on our network. We can’t guarantee compatibility for all models, but we will do all we can to see if we can get it connected.

Hi, I want to leave PureTalk due to service issues with the defective Nokia 6300 phone I bought from them, and come to Consumer Cellular. I bought the phone I want (ZTE Cymbal U), a no-nonsense flip phone, I just want talk/text plan. This phone is VoLTE compatible, GSM.
But I’m concerned about the SIM card instructions – ‘To avoid damage to the phone, do not use any other kind of SIM cards, or any non-standard nano-SIM card cut from a SIM card. You can get a standard nano-SIM card from your service provider.’
I understand most SIMs are 3-in1, will your nano-SIM be fine for my phone?

    • Hi Linda, thanks for your question! The nano-SIM card should be able to fit into that slot as long as that is the size needed. Just keep in mind, we can’t guarantee compatibility for all models, but as long as it’s unlocked, GSM-compatible, and VoLTE capable, we will do all we can to see if we can get it connected for you.

  125. Linda M says

Thank you Jacob! I did type in my IMEI number of the new phone on your site and CC said it is compatible. I was just concerned with the wording of ZTE’s SIM instructions. So if I understand it correctly, the nano-SIM from a 3-in1 card will be ok to use in the phone.
    Thanks!

Why did it take almost a year and a half for a tech at Consumer Cellular to tell me that the AT&T iPhone 12 will not work on your network because of some eSIM BS. I had to buy an XR from you after you sent me a SIM that you said would work in my iPhone 12. Yes, it is unlock from AT&T. Yes, I did a Master Reset. Yes I had Apple support run diagnostics on the phone. It passed. The title of the article is misleading.

    • Hi Mark, I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you’re having with the phone. If the phone had been working previously with our service and stopped, we’d like to look into this more for you. Give us a call at 800-686-4460 or chat with one of our agents here and we’d be happy to look into this further.

  127. Mark says

Jacob, the phone never worked with your service. It sees the network but wont associate with any tower. We where told that it would work and was sent a SIM to put in the 12. it has never worked with the SIM that is in the CC XR phone. We have been back and forth multiple times and were told a myriad of possible causes, but today was the first time I got someone who seemed to know what was going on. Will this 12 that was on AT&T’s network work on you network without having to purchase a CC 12?

    • Hi Mark, we can’t guarantee compatibility for all models. If the iPhone is completely unlocked from AT&T, is GSM-compatible which means able to take that physical SIM card, and VoLTE capable, it may work on our network. We have had good experiences with iPhones switching over to our network though as long as they meet those mentioned requirements.

I am a consumer cellular customer. Can I get a phone from Amazon or Best Buy and use it with cc?

    • Thanks for your question, Mary! If your phone is unlocked, is GSM-compatible, and VoLTE capable it may work on our network. You can check to see if the phone may be compatible by plugging the IMEI into our website here. Just keep in mind we can’t guarantee compatibility for all models, but we’ll do all we can to see if we can get it connected for you.

Hi, my mother has an SE 2020 from Verizon and we would like to switch to consumer cellular. Would a SIM card work in this situation? The phone is paid and I have a transfer number.

    Thanks,

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the interest, Sue. If her iPhone SE (2020) is unlocked, then it should work with our service and our SIM card. We can’t guarantee compatibility, but most iPhones will work if they’re unlocked. She can also transfer her number to us from Verizon.
