Find My iPhone – A “Must Have” App for iPhone users

We’ve all had the panicked feeling of misplacing our precious iPhone. Thankfully, there’s the free Find My iPhone app which can help you quickly locate your device and protect your personal information.  It’s important to note that Find My iPhone must be installed and enabled on your device for you to locate it remotely with the app.

Here’s how to enable Find My iPhone on your phone:

1.) Go to Settings
2.) From there, select iCloud and scroll to the bottom of the screen
3.) Select Find My iPhone
4.) Make sure the toggle switch is in the “On” position

If you can’t find your iPhone, simply download the free app on another iOS device (like another iPhone or an iPod Touch, iPad, or Mac), open it, and sign in with your Apple ID. Once you’re signed in, you’ll be able to locate your missing device on a map and see where it’s been over the last 24 hours. You can also remotely lock the screen with a four-digit code and display a custom message with a contact number. This allows whoever finds your phone to call you from the Lock screen without accessing any personal information.

What if you suspect your phone has been stolen? Another option is to remotely delete your personal information and restore the phone to factory settings. This further prevents the thief from accessing any of your information on the device. You can still display your custom message even after your device has been erased; and if you do retrieve your iPhone, you can always restore it from your iCloud backup.

Be sure to enable Find My iPhone today, and save the time, stress and expense of replacing your investment. Please note that this app requires GPS, which uses data from your plan.

What about an app for Android phones to help find it in the house? Especially since the Android phones have the ringer volume button on the side where you pick up the phone all of the time and while doing that, it turns the volume down – never up of course.

Let me know how to find my phone when calling my # doesn’t work. I don’t lose it very often, hence I forget how to make it ring loud enough to find it if it is in my house. Please and thank you!

We’re so sorry to hear that, Janet. Unfortunately, there isn’t an app like this for Android users. If your phone is still on, we recommend trying to call it as you’re doing, or sending messages if you have a notification sound that may be easier to identify. If you are unable to find your phone, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. We can remove service from it so that you aren’t billed for any unintended usage. Thank you for posting, and we hope you find your phone soon!
