Extending the #1 Rated Cellular Service to Others

With our free SIM cards, you can keep your current phone and still subscribe to Consumer Cellular:

By now, most of us know the value of a SIM card, that small rectangular piece of magic that fits in the back of a cell phone.  It’s a little computer chip that stores a lot of data, everything from your list of contacts to the text messages you’ve sent or received. Not only that, a SIM card is used to activate a phone. Clearly, the card is a very important cell phone component and pretty powerful stuff.

The good news is we’re offering free SIM cards that enable you to take advantage of a Consumer Cellular plan. If you or your friends would like to keep your current cell phone but want to switch your service to Consumer Cellular, now you can do both: keep your phone, get our service.

Using a Consumer Cellular SIM card is a simple process. Generally, if you have a phone previously used with AT&T or an unlocked GSM model which accepts a SIM card, we can send you one of our free SIM cards. Simply slide the old SIM out of your current phone and insert the new one. After a brief activation process, you’ll be good to go. If you have problems, don’t forget to check out our free online how-to video. The video walks you through the simple steps required to swap out cards.

The beauty is… thanks to our free SIM card offer and our long-standing referral program, there’s never been a better time to recommend Consumer Cellular to other cell phone users. And when they subscribe to our cellular plan, you’ll both receive a $10 credit as a referral bonus.

After listening to many customers over the years, I know how hard it is to give up a particular cell phone you’ve mastered and enjoy using. You carry your cell phone with you every day. Chances are it never leaves your side, purse, or pocket—unless it’s being used. Before long, your phone has become a close friend, one you don’t want to lose.

Change is never easy. That’s why I’m pleased to announce this free SIM card program. When it comes to cellular plans, products and customer service, it’s the best of both worlds. You get to keep what’s comfortable, and we get to do what we do best: provide the #1 rated cellular service in the nation.

Here is a link for more information about using non-Consumer Cellular phones: https://www.consumercellular.com/Support/Knowledgebase/2/42. We can send you a free SIM card with a temporary number if you want to test it out. 6. Peter says

Can you send me a SIM card with a temporary phone number? I have an iPhone 3GS that was given to me. I want to make sure it works prior to switching my wife's card to the phone.

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Peter. That's a smart plan! And yes, we can do that. However, you'll need to change a few settings in order for data and text to work – https://www.consumercellular.com/Support/Knowledgebase/2/42. One important note about the iPhone 3GS – MMS (picture messaging) won't work on our service. However, pictures can still be sent and received via email. Please feel free to call us at 888-484-3062 if you're interested in ordering a SIM with a temporary number.

      • Malia says

What is our mobile email address, ie: @mms.att.net (at&t customers). P.S. I've been a Consumer Cellular customer for 5 months now and have had NO problems. I have 3 phones on your plan. VERY PLEASED.

        • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hello Malia. Thanks for the question. For regular text messages, it's txt.att.net and for picture messages it's mms.att.net

          • KATHY says

okay I am confused. Have had Con.Cell for about a year now. Sister has it also. She sends me picture texts with her iphone but I can’t open them. She says her daughter can open them. It does have the MMS on it. On the thread above, you said you can’t send photo texts but you can send photos in emails. How do you set up an email and why do my sister’s text photos not open when they open for her daughter.

          • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Kathy. It sounds like we may need to adjust some APN settings on your phone. We’re happy to assist you with that, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. We’ll do our best to make sure you won’t miss out on those great family photos! Thank you for posting, and we look forward to assisting you.

  9. Dawn says

Can the SIM card use my current phone number?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

If you're interested in learning more about this option, please feel free to contact us at 888-484-3062. Thanks!

      • Rolf Rykken says

You may have updated this answer but when are you going to offer micro SIM cards so current customers can use your service with their unlocked iPhone 4s?

        • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hello Rolf. Thanks for the follow-up question. At this time, we don't have any micro-SIM cards available. We don't have any immediate plans to offer them at this point in time. Thank you.

          • Ray says

  12. Norman says

Hi, I have a Samsung Rugby 11, was with AT&T, will your sim card work with this phone? Norman

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Norman. Generally, old AT&T phones work with our service. We can send you a free SIM card if you would like to test it out. However, you'll need to change a few settings in order for text and data to work properly. Here's a link to more information about those settings: https://www.consumercellular.com/Support/Knowledgebase/2/42. If you're interested in testing our service on your phone, please feel free to call us at 888-484-3062. Thank you.

The phone I have now does not have roaming.
I need a simple phone to take when I travel out of the country. One that will work in the U.S.A. and other countries.

Thanks for the post, Grady. Our service is exclusive to the USA, it won't work in foreign countries.

  14. Dawn says

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for the question, Dawn. Generally, unlocked AT&T phones will work on our service. You might run into difficulties with an old T-mobile phone. We can send you a free SIM card with a temporary number if you want to test it out. 15. Dawn says

    Hi again Dominic,
I have another question. With T-mobile we have unlimited mobile-to-mobile service. Does CC offer this also?
    Thank you again.

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Dawn! We don't offer any type of mobile to mobile minutes. However our free Usage Alerts program really makes it easy for our customers to change their plan at any time, with no penalty. For example, if you are not using enough minutes, you can downgrade your plan to avoid paying for unused minutes. If you are using more minutes, you can avoid overage charges by upgrading your plan. This way, you never have to worry about minutes expiring, and you still have the peace of mind that you will never pay too much. Thank you.

  16. Mr.Masciarelli says

I'm still on the fence about switching to your service ! What I need to know is that ,if I retain my old phone #, will my home phone still ring when some one calls me ? Or, do I have to disconnect my old desk-top phone after I 'get hooked-up' to your service ? My computer is ' hooked-up' to my house #.

  17. Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hello Mr. Masciarelli. If you transfer your home phone number to our cell phone service, then your home phone will no longer work. Alternatively, we can issue you a new phone number if you need to keep your home phone. Please feel free to contact us at 888-484-3062 and we'll be more than happy to assist you with this process and answer any additional questions you may have. Thank you.

  18. Norman says

Hi Dominic, With your service will I have to key in a code before I leave my area of Pennsylvania to travel to Virginia?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Norman. We don't have any roaming charges. Our customers are free to use their phone anywhere in the US – and they don't need to enter any key-codes either. Thanks for the question.

  19. Albert says

will your sim card work in a motorola phone that was used on the U.S.Celluar network.

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

        Hi Dominic,
Have you had comments on your Blog from anyone who has successfully operated a Google Nexus 4 on your system?

        • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Rolf. I think you found a comment from a customer who is using a Nexus on a different blog entry. This particular article was written over 9 months ago, and we now have Micro SIM cards available. If you're interested in one, please feel free to call us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  21. Tiffany says

Will this work on tracfone phones?

    • Tina at Consumer Cellular says

Hello. Tracfones will typically not work on our service because they are not SIM card compatible and are locked to Tracfone. However, if you phone does accept a SIM card and it is unlocked, we would be happy to send a SIM card for free that you may try. Just give us a call at 1-800-686-4460 so that we may assist you.

    Ruth Bailey

    • Tina at Consumer Cellular says

Hello Ruth, and thank you for your question. Yes, all of our phones require a $35.00 activation fee. We have a free phone that we offer as well so all you would need to start up your service would be to pay the activation. If you would like more information, please give us a call at 1-800-686-4460 or you can go to our web site at http://www.consumercellular.com

    I have a Motorola W755 phone.(Verizon)
Will the SIM card fit into my phone and can I keep my phone number?
    Thank you for your help.

    • Tina at Consumer Cellular says

Unfortunately, Verizon phones do not take SIM cards, but you can keep your existing phone number as long as it remains active during the transfer process. If you would like more information we would be happy to help. Simply call 1-800-686-4460

We have CS. phones and are having some problems.. they just shut off!! No reason and it doesn't seem to matter if we're standing still or traveliing.. We trued renivubg battery etc. suggested by Cusstome service.. WE would like to get new phones to see if it would cure this problem. How can we do this and keep our number and information. Upgrade the phone a little and would we have to pay $35. fees for both phones?

    • Tina at Consumer Cellular says

Hello. I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing issue with your phones. Keeping your old information and phone number is easy. We simply walk you through taking your SIM card out of your old cell phone and putting it into the new one. As long as the SIM card isn't damaged, your information should transfer easily. For your second question, yes, all phone purchases require an activation fee. This is a fee to activate your phone, not the service or phone number. You can see our available phone at http://www.consumercellular.com/shopping/choose/plan

  27. Richard Collins says

My old Motorola v360 is just sitting here in my desk and your offer of a free CIM made me wonder if I could use it as a backup, or perhaps keep it in the car so I know I will always have a phone if I am in my car. I am getting absent minded and frequently leave the house without my cell.

    • Tina at Consumer Cellular says

If you old phone is one of ours, or one that is unlocked and accepts a SIM card, then yes it should work to put your SIM in there. The only wrinkle I see in your idea is that if you forgot your regular phone at home, the one in the car wouldn't work because you would need the SIM card out of the current one to put in the other. You could add a second line to your account so that both phones would work, but that would cost more per month.

  28. Steve says

I've read that one must manually cut/trim a SIM to fit in an iPhone 4S. Is this true?

    • Tina at Consumer Cellular says

Hello. It is true that the iPhone 4S uses a micro-sim so a regular SIM will not work. I would not recommend cutting down a SIM, it may ruin the card completely.

  29. Lucy Wain says

I have just joined CC & I have the Nokia c3 which I like very much. I was wanting to hook up the bluetooth with my computer. Is that an option?

    TUVM!
    Lucy

    • Tina at Consumer Cellular says

Hello Lucy. If your computer is bluetooth capable, you should be able to pair the two together. I have been able to do this with a PC and a MAC, although your options once connected via MAC might be limited.

  30. Dave says

I see it is not recommended to cut a sim card down for the iPhone 4S. Is there a special sim card to be used with Consumer Cellular then? I have been a long time Consumer Cellular customer and would love to keep the service. But I am interested in using a different phone.

    • Tina at Consumer Cellular says

At this time, we do not support the micro-SIM cards. However, other cards which take regular SIMS can be used on our service if it is an unlocked AT&T phone.

  31. Cathy says

My concern is the taxes and fees that are added on after the regular bill. We are with Verizon right now and our taxes and fees are crazy. Your service (comparing min and texting) is cheaper but I am trying to look at the total picture

    • Tina at Consumer Cellular says

Hello. Taxes are determined by where you're billing address is and if regulated by your county, city, state, and the federal government. Some states have over 25% added in taxes but this is not something we control as we are told what percentages we have to charge by those parties. You can always speak with your local governing agency to get more information.

  32. Dave says

Hi, I have another question regarding sim cards. Are there any future plans in supporting micro-SIM cards?

    • Tina at Consumer Cellular says

Hello Dave. At this time we do not have plans to support the micro-SIM cards. That doesn't completely rule it out – we might someday – just not right now.

  33. Green says

Hi, I have Motorola Bravo, I'm sure it is compatible with your sim card. I have an inquiry about Data usage. I understand I will need to pay the same amount even when I turn off the 3G. My question is: when I turn off the 3G and I use Wifi for web browsing, will it use and cut my data? I plan to turn on the 3G only when there is no wifi… Thank you

    • Tina at Consumer Cellular says

That is a great question. If you turn the 3G data completely off and use the wifi feature, you are not using up any of your data plan. It's a great way to save your data for when there isn't a wifi connection available.

  34. Ruth says

Hi, I have a samsung phone with straight talk – will your sim card work with it? Thanks!

    • Tina at Consumer Cellular says

Ruth – Thank you for your question. Most likely our SIM will not work in that phone. For it to work on our system, it needs to be an unlocked AT&T phone.

  35. Lori says

I have concerns about purchasing the Motorola Bravo after reading the reviews. Can you recommend other (less glitchy) smartphones which work with Consumer Celluar? I want a reliable phone which can hold a few apps, email with ease, and block robo voice calls.

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Lori. Thank you for your question. I have personally used a Motorola Bravo for over a year – and I'm very happy as it does everything you mentioned and more. Alternatively, the LG Thrive also offers everything you're looking for. Here's a link to more information about that phone. However, if you need any additional information, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you. https://www.consumercellular.com/shopping/choose/device

  36. Joseph says

What happened to the LG thrive on the web site?

  37. Marianne says

I'm thinking about using an AT&T Motorola Bravo phone that was not purchased from Consumer Cellular. Will I have to change settings to use the data plan features such as Internet?

  38. Tom says

I currently have the Bravo smart phone and am satisfied with but I do wish it had a bigger screen for my old eyes. Do you happen to have a list of other 3rd party unlocked GSM phones that are known to work with your service but with larger screens?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

That's a good question, Tom. However, we don't have a comprehensive list of all compatible smart phones. The only way to be certain, is to place one of our SIM cards in a non-Consumer Cellular phone and test it out. Please keep in mind, that you'll likely have to change a few settings in order for text and data to work. Here's a link to more information: https://www.consumercellular.com/Support/Knowledgebase/2/42/141. If you need any additional assistance, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490 or at [email protected]. Thank you.

  39. Ceegee says

A previous question makes it sound like one can transfer the home phone # to a cell phone, but when I suggested this to a customer service person a week or two ago, they said they can't switch a landline number to a cell. Which is correct? I'd really like to have a cell in place of my landline, but I don't want to give up my landline # which is associated with everything I do (banks, utilities, etc)

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hello Ceegee, thanks for the question. Yes, most landline numbers can be transferred to a cell phone. If you're interested in pursuing that option further, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  40. Joe says

I really like the consumer cellular plans. However, my phone is no longer working and I would like to purchase a smartphone. I wish there were other options besides the bravo as it's radiation levels are rated at the top highest. Will you be offering any other options anytime soon?

  41. John says

Hey, I was wondering since I like your company if the samsung galaxy nexus works on this carrier?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi John, thanks for your post. We can send you a free SIM card if your interested in testing out a non-Consumer Cellular phone on our service. We can't guarantee it will work, but it's worth a try. Here's a link to more information: https://www.consumercellular.com/Support/Knowledgebase/2/42/143. If you're interested in pursuing this option further, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  42. Laura says

I love the iphone 4s. I know it takes the micro simm and you do not offer the micro Simm card. If a person was successful in cutting the simm to use in the phone, would there be any other reason you could not use the iphone 4s with your service? I know mms does not work, but is there any other reason?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hello Laura. Thanks for the question. As you mentioned, MMS will not work. And you'll likely need to change a few settings in order for SMS and data to work correctly (Here's a link for more information: https://www.consumercellular.com/Support/Knowledgebase/2/42/141). I'd be very careful with cutting a SIM card down, as you could damage the SIM. We can't guarantee that it will work, but I personally know a few people who were successful in getting their iPhone 4 or 4s to work with our service. Thank you.

  43. Tim French says

I would like to use my current phones for your service. I use the Samsung – Model SGH-A697
and my wife uses Pantech – Model P2020 is this the place to get that info ? or do you have a webpage that list phones that can work. I understand that you might need the IMI numbers ?

  44. Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Tim. Thanks for the question. We can send you free SIM cards if you're interested in testing your phones on our service. We can't guarantee that it'll work but it's worth a try. If you're interested in pursuing this option further, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  45. John says

    Hi Laura,
I'm thinking of joining Consumer Cellular and am wondering if you'll accept my Verizon Samsung phone? Phone doesn't show a model number. Its about 5 yrs old.

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi John. Thanks for the message. Verizon Wireless phones are not compatible with SIM card technology so they're not going to work on our service. If you need any additional assistance, please feel free to call us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

Left sprint for Consumer Cellular…love the service….but I do miss my super rugged kyocera Taho phone. Any chance it could be used with consumer cellular?? I work in a tough environment, ane don”t think the motorola wx345 can take much more!!!

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Ed. You can take the SIM card out of your Motorola WX 345 and put it in your Kyocera phone (if the Kyocera is compatible with SIM card technology). There's no way to know if it will work for sure until you test it out. If you're having any trouble, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  47. John says

I am interested in your iPhone 3GS offering ($200), for my wife – a very light phone user. Also in the the 10 or 50 MB data plan. Some question: 1.) Are there any restristions on browsing the web? For example, would Google Maps work? 2.) To get some idea, how many KBs would opening a few maps, or reading email take? How far do I get with 10MB? 3.) At what speed can I expect to connect (Web use) – 3G ? Any limits? While Roaming?
Thank you for any help. I have looked at many prepaid plans, and yours is the simplest to understand, while offering good smart phones (Huawei, iPhone).

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi John. Thanks for the question. There are no restrictions to browsing the web with any of our smartphones. You'll also have complete access to Apple's App Store with the iPhone 3GS. Here's a link to more information about data plans. The graphic on the left might help you gain a better understanding of how many MB's certain actions take. https://www.consumercellular.com/Info/HowMuchDataInfoGraphic Also, you can expect 3G speeds with all our smartphones. If you need any additional assistance, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

Hello Khari. We don't offer any iPhone 4's however I believe the GSM models have a slot for a micro-SIM card. Thank you.

  51. Christine S. says

Will an unlocked GSM or previous AT&T Blackberry work on your network? Also, has the wifi capability on the iphone 3 that you offer been disabled? I only ask because wifi isn't noted as a feature on your website.

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Christine. Thanks for the question. Yes, the iPhone 3GS is WiFi capable. As for the Blackberry, we can send you a free SIM card if you're interested in testing the phone with our service. We'll likely need to change a few setting in order for text and data to function properly. If you're interested in pursuing that option, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  52. B arbara says

What do you mean by an “unlocked” AT&T phone? I wanted to set up an account with Consumer Cellular but was told I had to purchase new phones. I have two Samsung phones with AT&T but they are more than 3 years old and was told they would not send me SIM cards.

  53. Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hello Barbara. Thank you for your message. We can still send you a SIM card so you can test it each of your old phones. There's a good chance they'll work, even though your phones are 3 years old however, we can't guarantee that it'll work. This is where our risk-free trial period comes in handy. If you're interested in pursuing this option further, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  54. Dave says

Are there plans to provide a micro-sim card and a nano-sim card?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Dave. Thanks for the question however, I don't have a specific news to report about micro-SIMs or Nano-SIMs. Thank you.

  55. Chuck Massey says

I have an active Consumer Cellular Samsung a697. I would like to place the sim card in a Iphone 3GS that My son gave me. Will this switch work? Do I have to pay the $35.00 activation fee?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Chuck, thanks for the question. You can simply take the SIM card out of your Samsung phone and place it in to the iPhone. As long as your iPhone is compatible with SIM card technology, it will work. It's likely that we'll need to change a few settings in order for text and data to work. Please feel free to call us at 888-548-6490 and we'll be more than happy to help. Thank you.

  56. Neal Kinney says

My wife's AT&T Motorola worked so beautifully with your SIM card after I configured it according to your instructions, that I decided that I would like to add my own phone to the account. I have an LG Optimus One (unlocked) which is nearly identical to the LG Thrive but it's not an AT&T phone. If I send for the free SIM card and try it in the phone and it works after configuration, can I then ask to have my current number ported over to it? Or do I have to request the port when I order the SIM?

  57. Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Neal. Thanks for the question. Yes, you may test our service out before you decide to port your number over. If you're interested in pursuing that option further, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  58. Pat A says

With the new iPhones out, I have the opportunity to inherit an iPhone 4 from a family member. I'm currently a Consumer Cellular customer( great service BTW) with a Nokia C3. Can I just put this current Sim card in a used iPhone? I do plan on keeping Consumer Cell as my carrier. Thank you.

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Pat. The iPhone 4 is different from many other phones on the market in that those phones only accept micro-SIM cards. At the moment, we have regular SIM cards available – we should have have micro-SIM cards available within 30-60 days. Once we get them in, you'll be able to order one free of charge. Thank you.

  59. Pat A says

So does that mean the iPhone 3 is a regular sized sim card and thus I can use my current Nokia card? Thank you.

  60. john watson says

is my verizon cell# portable when switching to a consumer cellular smartphone and system?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hello John. As long as your cell phone number is still active, we should be able to transfer it over from Verizon Wireless to our service. If you're interested in pursuing this option further, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  61. Patty says

Can I keep my iPhone 4S and switch to your service?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hello Patty. Thanks for the question. If your iPhone 4S is a GSM phone or a phone previously used on AT&T's service, then it'll likely work with our service. For now, the obstacle is the iPhone 4S requires a Micro SIM card instead of a regular SIM card. We plan to have Micro SIM cards available in 2-4 weeks, at that time, we'll be more than happy to assist you with switching over. If you need any additional assistance, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  62. Kathy says

I have a T Mobile Samsung Galaxy exhibit. Will it work on the Consumer Cellular network or does the phone have to be unlocked first? If so, can you help me unlock it?

  63. Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Kathy. Thanks for the question. In order for a T Mobile phone to work on our service, it does need to be fully unlocked first. We won't be able to assist you with unlocking that cell phone but perhaps T Mobile has the information you need to unlock the phone. If you need any additional assistance, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  64. Julio says

Are iphone 4 (att) compatible with consumer cellular network ? Thank you

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

That's a good question, Julio. The unique thing about the iPhone 4 and 4S is that they both require micro SIM cards instead of the regular sized SIM cards that we use. However, we'll have micro SIM cards available in about 2 weeks. I would recommend contacting us in two weeks at 888-548-6490 or at [email protected] and we'll be able to assist you. Thank you.

      • Patrick says

        Hello Dominic,
Further your message of October 31st, concerning the availability of micro sim card, can you confirm that you now provide them.
Also there was a question that was not answered about your signal, 2G, 3G or 4G ?
        Thank You

        • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Patrick. Thanks for following up. Yes our micro SIM cards are now available. When you order a SIM card, we’ll send you a new All-In-One SIM card. This is a full size SIM with a die-cut Micro SIM built in. Simply pop out the Micro SIM and insert it into your cell phone. If you need any additional assistance, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490 or at [email protected].

  65. Bob F Mesa says

    Hi Dominic,

My AT&T contract ends, Nov. 29.

My phone number is area code 207. (We moved to AZ from Maine).

Will I be able to keep the 207 number, or do I have to change to an AZ number?

    Thanks,
    -Bob

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Bob. Thanks for the question. As long as your 207 number hasn't been cancelled, we should be able to transfer it over to our service. However, I would recommend calling in and speaking with one of our customer service representatives to go over the details of your situation as we approach November 29th. Feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  66. Ronnie Best says

Does your sim card work in the Samsung SGH-A707

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Ronnie. Thanks for the comment. We can send you a FREE SIM card in case you're interested in testing our cell phone service in your current cell phone. If you would like to pursue this option further, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  67. Terri says

I'd like to comment that there are templates you can get to cut your regular size SIM card to micro size so it will fit in the iphone 4s. I have an unlocked 4s which has been working perfectly on the Consumer Cellular network including MMS. You need to change the settings and CC needs to make sure the appropriate data phone is set up on their end. For the record, my old Tmobile Galaxy S worked fine as well. Again, unlocked with settings changed. There are forums that provide support if you google them. Just remember that your phone needs to have the same technology e.g., AT&T, Tmobile, Consumer Cellular are all GSM. Verizon, Sprint are not. Hope that clears up some confusion.

  68. Michael Evans says

Due to hearing loss (more like hearing dysfunction) I find most cell phones to be almost useless for voice communication. I would like to use the Motorola Tundra Model VA-76r with CrystalTalk 2 technology, but it appears to perform only with AT&T service. Will it work with Consumer Cellular?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Michael. Thanks for the message. We can send you a free SIM card if you're interested in testing our service with your current cell phone. If you're interested in pursuing this option further, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  69. Daniel A says

    Dear Dominic,

If I got an unlocked iPhone 4s, may I switch over to Consumer Cellular? Do you have the micro-chips availble for the 4s and also, can I use all the functions of the 4s (i.e. Siri, all the apps, etc.) with the 1gb of data. Thanks!

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Daniel. Yes, we do have Micro SIM cards available. The only feature that probably won't work is picture texts. However, pictures can be sent and received via email instead. If you're interested in pursuing this further, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  70. DORIS says

HI, CAN I REQUEST A MICRO SIMS CARD THRU MY COMPUTER? I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT 575(AREA)CODE . SOUTH EAST NEW MEXICO COVERAGE

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Doris. Thanks for the question. If you order a SIM card through our website, we'll automatically send you a Dual SIM card that can be used as either a regular-sized SIM card or a Micro SIM card. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  71. Patty says

Hi, how does the micro sim card process work? Is it as simple as just inserting your sim card into my iphone 4 and getting your service for data, mms, and calling? Is there any steps to set up the consumer cellular service?

  72. Lyman says

Will I be able to watch youtube videos with 10 or 50 mb Internet

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Lyman. Thanks for the question. Watching videos consumes a lot of data. If you intend to do that, I would recommend our biggest plan that offers 1GB of data. I would also recommend connecting to a WiFi connection before you watch a video that way you don't use any data at all. If you need any additional assistance, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  73. Kathleen says

I have a Motorola Bravo with Consumer Cellular. Is it possible for me to get an iPhone 4S with Consumer Cellular?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Kathleen. Thanks for the question. Yes, an iPhone 4S will work in conjunction with our cell phone service. If you already have one of those devices we can send you a free Micro SIM card to activate the phone. If you're interested in pursuing this option further, please feel free to contact us at 888-548-6490. Thank you.

  74. Ted says

I have a LG225 GSM phone that has been used with our Tracfone service. My question is whether this is an unlocked phone that will work with Consumer Cellular by switching out the SIM card? I know it must have been used with AT&T ‘s network where we are, since the voice mail is ATT.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Ted! The best way to find out is to try our free SIM card. In general, an unlocked GSM phone will work with our service. Please feel free to contact us at 888-345-5509, and we can get a SIM card on its way to you. Thanks!

  75. Christy says

I know someone who has a Verizon iPhone 4s and wants to sell it, I’m interested but not sure if it will work with consumer cellular. Does the company actually alter iPhones or are they exactly the same? Could It work with getting a Consumer Cellular iPhone SIM card?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting Christy. In general, Verizon phones are not a good fit with our network as they operate on the CDMA network instead of GSM. A Consumer Cellular SIM card works well with an unlocked GSM phone or one that was previously used with AT&T. If you would like to speak to one of our customer care team members about what would work best for you, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thanks again!

  76. Katie says

I orderd a “test” sim card with a new phone number to confirm the service works with my phone. If the service works and I then decide to port my phone number, will I need a new sim card or will my current phone number work with the test sim card?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Katie. If you want to port your number over to our service, we will send you a new SIM card with instructions. The test SIM you have is attached to the new phone number, so you would need the new one. If you have any questions about the process, feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509, and our team can help. Thank you again!

  77. Sandy says

I have a samsung galaxy exhibit for metro pcs will your sim card work in thay phone.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Sandy. Our SIM cards work best with unlocked, GSM phones. If you are not sure if your phone is unlocked, or what type it is, just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and our customer support team can tell you if your phone would be a good fit. Thank you again!

  78. Padauk says

I currently use a Tracfone and want to know if my current number can be transferred to a CC phone? If so, what info do I need from the Tracfone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Padauk. You can keep your number when you transfer service, you will just need your Tracfone account information. Just make sure not to cancel your old account until everything has been transferred to us. If you have any questions about moving to Consumer Cellular, just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we can walk you through the process. Thanks again!

  79. Cathy says

I have an LG 450 flip phone from Tmobile (unlocked). My contacts are saved to my sim card. If I switch to your sim card, how will my contacts transfer over? Do I have to copy them to my phone before I switch cards?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s a great question, Cathy. If you switch SIM cards, you will want to save your contacts to your phone. It’s easy to do! The option can usually be found in your contact settings. Select import/export contacts, and select your SIM card as the “import from” option. That way, your contacts will be ready to go when you start using our Consumer Cellular SIM card. If you have any questions, or you’re ready to get started, feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. We’re happy to help!

  80. Eboni says

So I bought a phone from you guys. Can switch plans?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Absolutely, Eboni! With our service, you can change your plan as often as you like. You can make changes by using the My Account section of our website, using the My CC app on your smartphone, or you can call us at 888-345-5509 and we can help you over the phone. Just choose the option that works best for you! We can even talk to you about your usage, and help you find the best plan to meet your needs. Thank you for taking the time to comment, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  81. Sandy says

I have a new unlocked Verizon droid mini that I purchased.Right now I have my old sim card from my Moto X in it. Will one of your sim cards work in my Verizon droid mini?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Sandy. In general, our SIM cards work best with unlocked GSM phones. However, some newer Verizon phones do have a SIM card slot. We’re happy to try our SIM card with your droid Mini and see if it works. Best of all, it’s completely risk free! Just pickup one of our SIM cards at your local Target or Sears store, or we can send you one if you give us a call at 888-345-5509. We’ll give you a $10 credit on your first month’s invoice so it’s free of charge. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we hope to see you as a customer soon!

  82. Sandy says

Thank you so much for your answer to my question, and I do hope to become a CS customer very soon Ashley.

  83. Debbie says

Which AT&T Blackberries will work with CC (calls, texts, MMS, etc.)?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Debbie. There are a variety of Blackberry models out there, and for best results you would need an unlocked GSM version. Next, you would need one of our SIM cards, which you can get here on our website or at your local Target or Sears store. We can’t guarantee that a phone purchased elsewhere will work with our service, but we’re always happy to try! If we can answer any questions you may have about our service or SIM cards, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for commenting today!

  84. Allen says

Is it possible to transfer contacts from a Tracfone sim card to the Consumer Cellular sim card

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Allen. If the SIM size can be used in your new Consumer Cellular device, you may be able to transfer the contacts from your old SIM card to your phone, then from your phone to your Consumer Cellular SIM card. We’re happy to help walk you through it at 888-345-5509. In general, transferring your contacts from your SIM card is pretty simple, so I think you’ll find this to be the easiest option. Thank you for posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  85. Reachel Mayeur says

I’ve had CC for some time now, this is a no-brainer. You don’t have to be old enough for AARP, you just don’t have to pay outrageous costs for cell phone service. I’ve never had a dropped call, an increase hike, bad customer service or had to use an inferior phone in order to have their service. It is exactly what they say they offer–quality service. Every service provider should take note and fashion their service after CC. They’d stop dropping so many customers. 5 Stars!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the fine compliment, Reachel. We certainly appreciate it!

  86. SJB says

I adore my current Nokia C-3 but am told it needs to be retired.
Question: Will one of these new SIM cards extend its usefulness?
2nd Question: I found a replacement phone that is as close to the Nokia C-3 as possible. Its a Blackberry Torch 9810 which is very promising but for the problem getting to the Internet. If I acquire a new/up-dated SIM card (instead of transferring the one in my C-3 phone) will that make the Blackberry operable in all three ways (calls, texts, and Internet access)? Much thanks!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, SJB. After taking a look at your account, I see that James, your account advisor, was able to answer these questions for you. Unfortunately, a new SIM card will not resolve the issue with your Nokia C3. Per your conversation with James, the Blackberry device may work with our SIM card for making calls and sending messages, but we can’t guarantee that all functions will work with our network. If we can answer any other questions you may have, we’re happy to do so at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post!

  87. Jason says

I want to switch switch to consumer cellular but want to get a dumb phone with a qwerty keyboard. I don’t see any of these options through your website, do you have a link or something that would direct me towards phones I could purchase that meet my needs and will also work with consumer cellular? I want to make sure that whatever phone I buy will be compatible with your network.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Jason. In general, our SIM card work with unlocked GSM phones, such as those used previously with AT&T or T-Mobile. While we can’t guarantee all features will work with a device that we don’t sell, many of our customers use the SIM card without any issue. To see how it works, you can watch our video here. We can also answer any questions you may have at 888-345-5509 if you like. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us today!

  88. Vincent says

I want to try out consumer cellular. I don’t have a SIM card compatible phone, but just saw and AT&T Kyocera Hydro Shore on a discount table at a store. Will this work w / consumer cellular? if I bought the phone, will i be able to get a new number for my phone or do I need to first register it with AT&T to get a phone number?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re so glad to hear that you’re interested in our service, Vincent! In general, fully unlocked phones that use GSM technology, such as those used previously with AT&T or T-Mobile, can be used with our service. Please keep in mind that we aren’t able to guarantee that a device purchased elsewhere will work with our service. You would want to make sure that AT&T has fully unlocked the phone, as that can only be done by the original carrier. If you’re looking for an affordable smartphone, we offer options starting at just $60. You can view our full lineup here. No matter which phone you choose, we can provide you with a new phone number. If you have any other questions or if you would like to get started, please feel free to call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to post, and we hope you have a wonderful day!
