Exciting New Choices from Samsung: the Galaxy J7 and Galaxy J3

An intelligent mix of innovation, reliability, and affordability has consistently made Samsung’s Galaxy smartphone series among the world’s most popular cellular devices. We’re pleased to be adding two more fine new releases to our smartphone selection—the Galaxy J7 and the upgraded Galaxy J3.

The Galaxy J7 offers an impressive range of modern features along with generous speed and power, compliments of an Android 7.0 operating system and 1.6GHz octa-core processor. The end result is a smartphone that’s comfortable and intuitive to use, while at the same time delivering super-fast speeds for surfing the Internet, using social media, or streaming music and video, all for only $150.

A big, bright 5.5” display utilizes TFT technology, a high resolution LCD screen that provides a brighter display for easier viewing outdoors. It’s great for enjoying vibrant pictures captured with the 8MP camera, or viewing full high definition video playback. There’s ample storage, with 16GB of internal memory, which can be expanded to an impressive 256GB with the purchase of a separate microSD card.

Learn more about the features and benefits of the Galaxy J7 in our tour video below.

The Galaxy J3 has been updated to include an Android 7.0 operating system and a 1.4GHz quad-core processor. It’s a makeover that enhances an already impressive performance for its price range—it’s simply an unbeatable value for just $100.

Bolstered by performance upgrades and boasting 4G LTE capabilities, the Galaxy J3 is fast and nimble. It comes with a 5.0” high definition, TFT display screen, a 5MP camera, and 1080p HD video capture and playback. For those who prefer a simpler user experience but still want to enjoy cutting edge Android technology, it offers an optional “Easy Mode” which can be turned on in a few simple steps, transforming the phone’s interface so it displays larger icons.

On the rare occasions when I have a problem , Support has been able to solve my problem , but sometimes I’d rather just go to one of the tutorials . I realize this may be a trivial suggestion , but I have to say , it’s irritating and nearly funny the way your models talk to the announcer . Those people are like the worst examples of your customers I can imagine ! They come across as buffoons . What is wrong with a sensible technician demonstrating a phone without all of the giddy giggles and wonderment ? Seriously . It’s actually annoying to have to wade through a video in order to find a quick fix . I’m sure Cellular won’t change their approach to this because of me , but it sure would be a refreshing move . That woman fussing over her Galaxy J3 makes me almost want to switch to another phone ! Thanks for reading this . I feel better now , but I still can’t stand the videos !

I had set aside today to go to Target to upgrade my flip phone to a smart one. Experience has taught me to call Target first, so I did, and the girl said that the CC techs were not in, but would probably show up around 2:30. No surprise. Then I called two other stores, and the phone was not answered in their electronics departments. While waiting for the time to pass, I read many of the reviews in the CC web site. If only ten percent of the negative reviews are true and valid, CC is in a heap of trouble.

Before switching to CC, I suffered several months of insufferable service from the nincompoops at T-M, and I can see that a smart phone would multiply the potential for customer service problems. I decided to postpone upgrading my phone and study the issue further. I am over 90 (a no-no genarian) and don’t want to spend even one hour dealing with dishonesty or incompetence

We’ve had good service from CC, except for the numerous calls to our second line, which apparently has a well-worn second-hand number, plus the occasional failure due to the limitations of T-M’s coverage.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for sharing your perspective, Norman. We find it is helpful to provide a platform for our customers to post reviews about their devices, so that they can share their experiences with others. If you’re thinking about a smartphone, we can speak with you over the phone about the features you want, and make a recommendation that would be a good fit. Please keep in mind that we do offer a 30 day risk-free guarantee for our devices, so you can properly test it. Please feel free to call us at 888-345-5509 at your convenience if you have any questions regarding any of our phones. We are always happy to answer them! As a ‘mature’ adult the Galaxy J3 is my first ‘smart’ phone. Love it! It is easy to operate and undsrstand. No longer sure why I waited so long to get such a handy and useful phone. I feel the price of 100 dollars is very reasonable for such a phone.

  16. Jerry says

Hello, and thank you for a great blog and the great service! I fell prey to one of the big guys (Their name is similar to BU&U). Too much money and the worst customer service! CC is as good, super helpful servicee and good for my pocketbook.

I just received my new Samsung Galaxy J7. My question is what model is it? I am trying to find a glass screen protector and case, but as you may know, there are so many different years and models. I checked the phone settings, as many will prompt you to do, and it just says “J7”, with no year noted. Any help?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I’m happy to help you, Jerry. The model number for your J7 smartphone is SM-J727U. We do have a case available for your phone, which you can purchase through My Account, or we can help you order one over the phone at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting today!

The Samsung J7 just came out July 2017. Let me just say. If you are reading this, this is a great phone to have.

When I first signed on, I just got off the Sprint network paying 90 dollars or more a month. I had a phone with unlimited data which I loved. But since I was becoming older and not getting all that much calls, I was using more of texting and data than talking on the phone. I didn’t need or wanted to pay so much for the Sprint service. So researching, Consumer Cellular offered a more affordable cost structure for my needs.

I started out with getting the flip phone that Consumer Cellular offered. After getting my order in, I received it in three business days. Quite impressive. Had a minor issue activating the flip phone but a call to Consumer Cellular customer service fixed that issue quickly. And that was also with having to transfer my phone number to my new flip phone too.

I started using my new flip phone but it was not the same. I was used to using a smart phone. I missed using the smart phone. So I researched the Consumer Cellular web page looking for an affordable smart phone. I came across the Samsung J7 smart phone. It costed 150 dollars which I could afford. Granted at the time of purchase, I did not know it just came out July 2017 and what the Samsung J7 smart phone was capable of. Did not think anything of it at the time of purchase. I at the time thought was not having to make payments on a more expensive smart phone with all the bells and whistles. 150 and bam, it was paid off. No monthly payments.

Again, placing a new order for the Samsung j7 phone. It arrived in three days ready to go. My phone number was already in there and I just activated on the webpage following their instructions. Nothing to it. Once activated, it was ready to be used. All I had to do was input my contact names and numbers to my new Samsung J7 phone and tweak a few things on settings.

Here is where it gets interesting. I have home internet service. You set your internet service provider to your smart phone. I use the google bar and check my emails. Just pull up google bar and type in your email address. Just log in like you do at your computer after that. This really saves not having to use data on your phone big time. The great thing about the Samsung J7 smart phone is that you hear a ring with you get a incoming message from you email like you do your text messages. Make sure you wi-fi icon is turned on your smart phone. Again, you are not using data and it is coming off the home internet service instead.

I also like to sleep at night without my incoming messages interrupting my sleep. Most smart phones do this. Go to settings on your phone. Select sounds and vibration, Select Do Not Disturb. Turn it on. There is three setting for that. Day, Start time, and End time. I switch mine off from 10 pm to 7 pm all seven days. That’s it. Go back to main screen. A big big big reminder, you alarm function will not work during the Do Not Disturb is working. I just use the old fashion alarm clock for waking up. Once 7 am hits, all the messages start pouring in.

This is another big plus using the smart phone. You don’t have to be pressing buttons on your smart phone all the time. You can just talk to you phone and it will do the task for you. Say you want to call or text someone. You just make sure your home screen is on, just press it on. Then you say, “Ok Google”. and then say call so and so or text so and so. The Google feature comes on and performs the task after you tell it what to do. This does eat data if you are not on your home internet service provider. You just have to activate the Google feature. A great tutorial for doing this is on Youtube. Once you are there, type in “OK Google” Voice Detection | Issue FIX and Setup. Google does a lot and you can voice command taking photos too. Just say “Ok google, take picture and it pulls up your camera feature. You just press your camera button after that. How easy is that !!!

One the main issues with phones it connecting to your charger. That little itty bitty is more than a challenge for a lot of us doing such a simple task right ? Especially if you have something like arthritis. Very cumbersome. Guess what … You can now do away with cords and go cordless charging you smart phone. Yes, you can. You can purchase a what is called a charging pad for about 60 bucks or less. You set up your charging pad and that’s it !!! No cords to deal with. You just place your smart phone on the charging pad and that’s it. It charges wirelessly with no cords you have to manually attach to your smart phone. How cool is that and when your kids see that. They think how tech savy you are. They probably don’t even know about the google voice command. You can tell when you see them using their fingers in operating their own phone all the time.

Most of your smart phones use up a lot of space with videos taking, picture taking and music. You can add what is called an SD card which is a tiny small chip to your phone to gain more memory. Mine is loaded with music. You can view how to do that on Youtube tutorials. Also look up how to use bluetooth on your phone. Bluetooth is great for listening to music in your car traveling. Most kids know how to active or what you need to set it up in your car. Even if you have a much older car, you can still use bluetooth. They make devices that plugs into your cigarette lighter without the need for cords or cables. The say audio books is great for that too, but I have not tried it yet.

I will say that the Samsung J7 smart phone does not have all the bells and whistles as their higher priced phones. But this phone gets you by without the monthly payment plans and offers a great deal of the same features of the higher priced models. I first thought I was getting a plain jane smart phone but this Samsung J7 smart phone blows me away. Such a great phone with all the features you need. The only thing I would recommend is NOT to update your phone. Doing so causes more pain than what its worth. Just hit clear button when it pops up.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and for providing such a thoughtful review. We appreciate you posting, and we’re so glad to hear that your smartphone is such a good fit!

Hello Consumer Cellular I took part in a chat with Samsung to find out what type of glass does the Samsung Galaxy J7 sm-J727U phone have. In the chat I gave the Serial Number and IMEI number. Hoping this helps others who have the same question, thanks.

  24. Michael says

Ashley why is it on the Samsung Galaxy J7 when you hear and read comments it’s like they’re reviewing completely different models? One will say has the AMOLED screen another will say Samsung should go back to the AMOLED screen, different size batteries, one the phone is made of plastic another metal making for a heavier phone. Some of the Galaxy J7 phones even have a different rear appearance. I’ve read the rear camera either has 12 megapixels or 8. I’m sure many of your customers and to be customers have read and seen all the same differences, thanks.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I saw you say it is model SM-J727U when I google that it says it is a US variant of the 2017 but when I look at the back of a 2017 it does not look like the back of the phone we just got from Target. What is the correct model to be looking for?
