The Do Not Disturb Button—Sometimes You Just Need One!

Are there times you don’t want to be disturbed by the sound of a ringtone or the buzz of a vibration whenever a new call, text, or email arrives?

Did you know your iPhone has a Do Not Disturb function which lets you silence calls, alerts, and notifications while your device is locked? You can also schedule a time period or choose who can call you. There are two easy ways to turn this function on or off:

Option 1:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap “Do Not Disturb.”
  3. Choose “Manual” to turn on/off now or “Scheduled” to schedule a specific time to not be disturbed.

Option 2:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center.
  2. Tap the crescent moon icon.

You can also choose when you want to be disturbed or who can contact you with the following settings:

Allow Calls From: Allow calls from everyone, no one, your Favorites, or specific contact groups stored on your device.

Repeated Calls: If someone calls you twice within three minutes, the second call won’t be silenced.

Silence: Choose to always silence calls or only when your device is locked.

Now you can leave your phone on and sleep, work on a project, or watch a movie and not be disturbed—or only on your terms.

My 84 year old mother red flip phone only goes to voicemail, which she doesn’t have! Is there a do not disturb

    • Hi Joan, thanks for your post. I’d recommend making sure that the phone is powered on, since it will go straight to voicemail if the phone is off. I’d also recommend making sure the volume is turned up as well so that the calls can be heard. If she continues to have trouble, have her give us a call at 800-686-4460 or chat with a live agent on our website here.
