Plan Summer Fun with These Great Apps

Your phone can be among your best summertime companions. Taking photos, getting directions, texting friends to find out who’s hosting the next get-together—it comes in handy for everything you need to keep your busy summer world moving.

Once the sunshine season hits, I also rely on my phone to find more ways to fully experience everything Mother Nature has to offer. For instance, I’ve found four exciting apps that open up new possibilities for great things to see and do all summer long.

Hiking is one my favorite ways to explore nature, and the Hiking Project app has become my go-to when I do. Available for Android and iPhone, it includes an exhaustive database of more than 74,000 miles of trails, GPS route tracking, elevation and topographical maps, and more. This app will make sure you know exactly where you are—even when you’re getting away from it all.

If you’re among the millions who love to spend a night under the stars, you’ll enjoy the wealth of useful information found on the RV Parks & Campgrounds app, designed exclusively for Android users. It offers a convenient, ad-free way to find public and private camping sites and nearby amenities, along with reviews, pictures, and maps.

Can your smartphone make you a better fisherman? You bet it can! The Fishbrain Fishing app, for Android and iPhone, provides anglers with a place to share helpful tips, local fishing forecasts, and those special spots where the fish are really biting. It does everything but reel them in for you!

Treasure hunters will love using the official Geocaching app, also available for Android and iPhone. Both experienced players and novices alike have plenty to enjoy. If you’re new to the game, this app will help you get started, and for those who already play, there’s a “cache” of helpful hints to be found here.

Pick up your phone to checkout all the possibilities these great apps have to offer. I guarantee they’ll inspire you to enjoy some terrific summertime adventures!

Will my Contacts (phone numbers) from my old phone (ZTE Avid 828) transfer to my new phone (Moto G4 Play) when I activate the Moto G4 Play ?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, George! There are a few different ways you can transfer your contacts. First, if you use the same Google account with your new Moto G4 Play and your contacts are saved to your Google account, they should transfer automatically. You can also transfer your contacts from your old phone by using the SIM card. You can watch a How-To video for the Moto G4 Play here to see how simple it is. And of course, we’re happy to help you over the phone at 888-345-5509 if you run into any issues. Thank you for posting today, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy your new Moto G4 Play!

We cannot store contacts in our Samsung Galaxy J3. Support told us to store in our Sim card. Did that and they still disappeared. Don’t have time for all of this. Support said it is a soft ware program with android phones. Then was does nobody else we know have problems? You get what you pay for! Going to send it back!

Does google maps use data on your phone? If so how much? Say, per 100 miles.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question! Using the location feature, or GPS, will use data. How much it uses can really depend on the settings and other factors. One way to reduce the amount of data used is to download the maps ahead of time for the location you’re visiting. That way, your phone won’t need to use data as the map will be stored on your phone. You can find this option under the app Settings, so just look for “Offline Maps”. We’re also happy to help you over the phone at 888-345-5509 with any other questions you may have.
