Looking for the Grandkids on Social Media? Check Instagram!

As you peruse social media, you may have noticed that you’re not seeing as much of the kids or, especially the grandkids, on Facebook these days. Where have they gone?

Chances are, they’ve moved over to Instagram! In the year 2017, Facebook lost as many as 2.8 million users under 25 in the United States alone, and that exodus has continued. But that age group—which includes your grandkids, nieces, and nephews—certainly hasn’t quit social media. Instead, they’re among the more-than-500 million people who log in to Instagram every day!

It’s easy to see why. Instagram is all about pictures: a user uploads and shares photos, and can view those posted by their family and friends. It’s just that simple. There are no status updates, or news stories—it’s just pictures (and captions to go with them, if you so choose).

Just as importantly, it’s a social media app specifically designed to be convenient for use on a mobile device. With large screen smartphones and tablets becoming common tools in everyday life, Instagram’s simple functionality (just scroll down!) and strictly visual emphasis are a perfect fit for today’s fast-paced, digital lifestyle.

Best of all, it offers a wonderful way for families to keep in touch. Share photos of the new baby, or the family picnic, or your trip to Europe.  Scroll through to find photos that others have posted. It’s an easy and relaxing way to spend a few quiet minutes seeing familiar faces and the interesting things that they are up to.

If you’re looking for a fun, easy way to stay connected with the younger members of your family and their busy lives, give Instagram a try. You can download the app for free at the Play Store or App Store. Once you’re on Instagram, you can even keep up with Consumer Cellular there! Join us, and so many others, and share the best parts of your day.
