Shucks, I got the moto g this summer and love it. I would have loved this more because of the bigger screen. When will you have a higher data plan? The 2.5 GB is not enough!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for commenting, Bonnie. At this time, our largest data plan is 2.5GB, but I will pass your feedback on to our management team. Thanks again!

  2. William Imlach says

Thank you! I just bought a Motorola G three days ago at Sears. I would have waited if I knew this release was immenent.
Note, had a Moto X up to last week but lost it in the Toyota River while fishing last week.
We have three Consumer Cellular phones in our house.

  3. Linda Bee says

Is this phone hearing aid compatible? Which phones that you sell are hearing aid compatible?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Linda. All of our phones are hearing-aid compatible. The best way to find the right phone for your hearing-aid needs is to use the Compare Phones tool on our website here. That way, you can view the phones side-by-side. If you have any questions about which phone would be the best fit, please call us at 888-345-5509, and we would be happy to help. Thank you!

    • MacTex says

I also got the Moto G EXT and was astounded what an improvement in the sound quality it makes not only having two speakers, but having them facing you instead of facing away from you. It really helped me a great deal.

  4. Michelle B. says

Ditto on raising the highest data plan! Our family needs more to stick with you guys! We already had friends forced to switch from you guys!

  5. Mike O'Briem says

I just bought Moto G from you this fall and love it but could use the extras. Anyway to trade -n or upgrade? Thanks

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Target only gives 14 day return policy on MotoX. When you advertise also available at Sears and Target, please use a disclaimer.

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment Roy. I’ve passed your suggestions on to our management team. We appreciate the feedback!

  6. D Smith says

I think I just found the perfect compliment to my Moto X second gen. Thanks Consumer Cellular!
Two phones with you at the moment.

  7. Jim Ferguson says

Does the new Moto G Ext have Gorilla Glass?

  8. Mike says

Do you know the differences between the EXT and the 2nd generation Moto G ? Is the EXT using the Jelly Bean 4.4?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Mike. The Moto G EXT and 2nd Generation Moto G are the same handset. The EXT is using Kit Kat 4.4. For more information, you can view the phone detail page here, or give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you!

      • Jim Ferguson says

Are these in stock for immediate shipping?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Jim. At this time they are in stock and ready to ship. If you have any questions about the Moto G EXT or availability, just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we would be happy to help. Thank you!

      • Shirlz says

So it’s the same phone at the same price as The Second Generation Moto G. But then you say your phone uses Kit Kat 4.4. What does this mean? Is this some kind of software that doesn’t come on the other (2nd gen) phone?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Shirlz. The Moto G EXT is the same phone as the second generation Moto G. The EXT comes pre-installed with the Kit Kat operating system, but will update to Lollipop immediately upon activation. Thank you for the post!

  9. jerry alpaugh says

I ordered the motorola moto g ext yesterday.cannot find a cover for it.will the 2nd generation cover fit?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Jerry. Accessories for the Moto G 2014 (2nd Generation) should be a good fit. Thanks!

  10. Mike says

Why did Consumer Cellular decide to not just call their new Moto G EXT, the 2nd generation Moto G and not confuse their customers so much. That is if the two phones are exactly the same?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Mike. We offer both versions, and we wanted an easy way for our customers to be able to tell the difference. EXT stands for “extended”, for the larger screen.

      • Jeff La Bass says

If the ext has a larger screen than a 2nd gen. How does a cover for the 2nd gen. fit the ext?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Sorry for the confusion, Jeff. The Second Generation Moto G and the EXT are the same phone, with the same dimensions. Any accessories for the Moto G 2nd Gen should work with the EXT. If you have any questions about which accessories would be a good fit, please call us at 888-345-5509, and we can help. Thanks!

  11. Craig says

When can you add the Galaxy Note 4 to your phone selections? I would be the first to get one!!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, Craig. Our phone lineup is constantly changing, so I will be happy to pass on your feedback to our management team. Thanks again!

  12. Don says

Just surfing the net and found the Moto G EXT selling for considerably less. I’m not willing to give up Consumer Cellular’s great customer support. I don’t suppose Consumer Cellular provides the same level of service regardless of where it is bought, or?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Don. As long as the phone you purchase from a 3rd party is an unlocked, GSM phone, we can usually bring it to our service without issues. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and our customer support team can answer any questions you may have. Thanks!

  13. Karen Schechter says

Interested in call clarity. My current phone is a feature phone and my friend complained about fuzziness of my voice.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Karen. The Moto G EXT has excellent call clarity. If you have any other questions about the features of the Moto G, you can visit the phone detail page here, or you can give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we will be happy to help. Thank you!

  14. Richard Williams says

I purchased a new 2nd gen Moto G several weeks ago from Amazon before signing up with Consumer Cellular, and I just love it. You’re offering a truly excellent budget smartphone at an incredible price. For those who are wondering, it runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and Motorola has committed to upgrading the handset to Android 5 Lollipop after it’s released this month.

  15. carla says

Just got the MotoG Saturday – saw this today – may I exchange this and pay the $50 difference?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Carla. If you are still within our 100% Risk-Free Guarantee period, just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we will be happy to answer any questions you have, and walk you through our return process. Thank you again!

  16. Evelyn says

Are there cell phone covers available for the Moto G EXT?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Evelyn. We will be offering Moto G EXT covers shortly. If you have any questions about availability, please give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we would be happy to give you an update. Thank you again!

  17. Hector says

I have been your customer for about 18 months now and have been very happy with your service.. I’m glad to have switched. Like quite a few of your other customers’ comments I have read here, I wish you would offer a data plan with a higher limit. I finally purchased a smart phone, and now we have 3 smartphones in the plan.
    Thanks

    • Chris says

Not only would it be nice to include another upper tier of data, but to also add a tier between 300MB and 1GB.
Also, it would be nice if you would separate Text and Data so we can better mix and match data and text so that we could customize it better to suit ones particular usage?
      Thanks
P.S. You should open up a discussion forum so customers could ask questions or offer suggestions so we don’t sidetrack your threads with those. Nothing better than input from current customers in a direct dialog with CC
      🙂

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the feedback, Chris. We always appreciate hearing suggestions and new ideas from our customers, I’ve passed these on to our management team. Thank you again!

  18. Lynn says

From what I am reading the moto g second generation and the moto g ext are not exactly the same What is the difference ? Does Consumer Cellular support moto g second generation I have been a customer of Consumer Cellular for several years now What exactly does same “handset” mean

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Lynn. The Moto G EXT is the same as the Moto G 2014, also known as the “second generation”. The term “handset” is used in the same way as model. If you have any questions about the Moto G EXT, please feel free to call us at 888-345-5509, and we would be happy to answer any of your questions. Thank you!

  19. leslie says

Earlier today I was speaking with a CC customer service rep who encouraged me to purchase this phone because I am looking for a 4G LTE phone and he assured me this was what I was looking for. I did not purchase the phone in that moment as I was nearly certain I had read otherwise. Please let your reps know that this phone is not 4G LTE. I am so glad I did not place that order 2 hours ago when speaking with him.
I am reluctant to purchase an iPhone and will need to continue looking for a phone that fits my hand and fits my bank account as well.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for letting us know, Leslie. A great option for your situation is our SIM card, which can be used with most unlocked, GSM phones. This is a great option for our customers who have a phone that isn’t available in our lineup. As for the iPhone, we do offer the EasyPay program, which allows you to pay for the phone in monthly installments. If you are interested in either option, please give us a call at 888-345-5509, and our customer service team will be happy to help! Thank you again for your comment.

    • Ron says

Leslie, you may want to consider the Moto 4G LTE, although it does have a bigger screen and retails for around $199. However, the EXT camera has been upgraded (8MP/2MP) beyond the original Moto G and the 4G LTE 5MP & 1.5MP). I too, was told today by a CC rep that the EXT did LTE, but now I’m hearing this isn’t the case for the first time. Thanks!

  20. leslie says

I, too wish there were a higher data level above 300MB and 1GB. (I’d have added this to my comment/question/suggestion above but I hadn’t read all the comments until after I posted.

  21. Kenny says

What’s the difference between the regular and the extra?
& what does it mean by consumer in comparison to the regular?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Kenny. The original Moto G and the Moto G EXT are slightly different, mainly due to the size of the screen. Try using our comparison tool here, which allows you to compare the phones side by side. And as always, you can give us a call at 888-345-5509, and our support team can answer any questions you may have. Thank you!

  22. Stephan Oxendine says

When does Consumer Cellular anticipate phones with the Android 5.0 OS?

    Thanks

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, Stephan. Our lineup is constantly changing, but currently we only offer Android phones with the KitKat operating system. We will announce new phones via our blog and social media, and you can always view our lineup here. Thank you again for the question!

  23. Doug D. says

I just got this phone a few weeks ago and it exceeded my expectations. I love the it’s not overloaded with bloatware. This replaced my iPhone 4s and the value is fantastic. I’ve been a Consumer Cellular customer for a while now and am so glad that I made the switch; superior customer service and affordable plans. I’m hoping in the future you will offer higher end androids, like the Moto X and the Nexus 6.

  24. Jacob says

Will this phone get android lollipop, and if so when?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Jacob. At this time, KitKat is the only operating system available. If that should change, we will be sure to alert our customers. Thank you!

  25. Joe Nesbitt says

Does the display on the Moto G-EXT rotate for horizontal viewing?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Joe. The display will rotate for horizontal viewing. Thank you!

  26. Richard Koch says

I have been with CC for years, and don’t think I could be much happier with the overall service and value. However, I too would be elated to see CC bring on some higher end Android offerings that would be more on par with your upper end I-phone offerings! No need to pass on my comments … CC has already heard it from me on previous occasions. Many of us would be happy to pay the premium required. That said, I love CC and I’m not sure there’s a better overall value to be found!

  27. Dave Robertson says

Just got my Moto-G EXT. Using the SIM card (from my older Doro 618) to import contacts does not work as the -618 uses a larger SIM card. Unfortunately I had a lost afternoon typing in primary contacts. Also you need a clip-on belt holster for the phone. Fortunately I found one at a 3rd party vendor. I really love this phone. My only negative is that I would love it more if a charging cradle was available, I have never seen one with micro USB configuration. Heads up Motorola.

  28. Ed says

I have read that there is a Gen 3 over seas, when will it be available in the states???

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, Ed. At this time, we only offer the Moto G and the Moto G EXT. If that changes, we’ll be sure to let our customers know via our website and our social media channels. Thank you again!

    • James B. says

There is no 3rd generation Moto G yet the 2nd generation just came out in 2015

  29. Catherine says

I am so happy to see that this phone includes an FM radio! Some of the newer more expensive smart phones (including all Iphones) do include this feature so it is getting harder and harder to find.

I have one more question before I order. Can I attach a wired headset to this phone? If so, does it use a standard connector? Do you sell a headset to go with this phone?

    Thanks.

    • Catherine says

I meant to say they do NOT include this feature.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Catherine. The Moto G EXT uses a standard headset jack, so you can use most wired headsets with this phone. Thank you again for taking the time to comment.

  30. Rachel says

I just got the Moto G phone. I liked it, until I discovered it doesn’t have Bluetooth. I just bought a Tile for my husband, who keeps losing his wallet, and now I find we can’t use it with this phone. Very disappointed. Should have done my homework better!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Rachel. The Moto G does come equipped with Bluetooth, but it sounds as if there are some issues connecting it with the Tile system. Can you give us a call at 888-345-5509? We will be happy to work with you and get that issue resolved. Thank you!

  31. Gina says

We joined CC in December and have had great service so far! My husband purchased the G EXT. We have had a hard time finding a screen protector for it…and the Moto G protector does not fit. Are there any stores (other than Walmart & Sears) that might carry the screen protector designated specifically for G EXT phone? Also, we too would like to see voice/data plans between 1200 and 2500…we seem to use around 1500 minutes each month. Thank you!!

    • James B. says

I would say Walmart.com because that is were I get some cases or a small cell phone shop. But the moto g ext is a fairly new phone so give it a little more time to be out on the market. And if all else fails Motorola.com

  32. Russell Pumphrey says

Regarding the micro SD card slot. Am I missing something? My phone doesn’t have one. There is a headphone jack on top. USB input on the bottom. Just volume and power buttons on the right side. Nothing on the left side. It days it has on on the packaging, and then again on this website

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Russell. Your EXT does have a Micro SD slot, but to add a card you need to take the back cover off of the phone. Once you do that, you will be able to see the slot directly across from the SIM card. We can walk you through it if you give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for reaching out to us!

  33. Peter Muise says

Not to be too repetitive but Motorola is now rolling out Android 5.X lollipop to Moto G first Generation. I have the Moto G EXT and I’m wondering why it is taking so long for CC to roll it out.
I’m very happy with the Consumer Cellular but it seems to be lagging in implementing the Upgrade
which offers significant improvements for users.
    thank you

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We appreciate you reaching out to us, Peter. We will be sure to let our customers know when this is available via our website and any social media channels. Thank you!

  34. katherine mcmenamy says

So if i order the moto g ext does all covers, cases, tuff cases, holters ,silicone gel etc fit if i choose moto g cases , and 2nd gen cases. Are they all compatible? Because I do not see but 2 cases specifically for the moto g ext.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Katherine. We do offer a few cases for the Moto G EXT, but accessories for the 2nd generation Moto G will work as well. If you would like to order a case for your phone, just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we can get one on the way to you. Thanks!

      • Peter Muise says

I initially ran into this problem part of my problem was some confusion with calling it the Moto G EXT. The Moto G EXT is a Moto G 2nd generation the Moto G first generation often goes by just Moto G it is smaller than the Moto G second generation or EXT.
So second generation cases will fit.

  35. Jim Ferguson says

When can the owners of the Moto G Ext expect the Lollipop update?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Jim. At this time, we don’t have the Lollipop update available, but if that should change, we will be sure to let our customers know via our newsletter or social media pages. Thank you!

  36. Garibaldi says

I am waiting for the lollipop update, when does it come?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for your comment, Garibaldi. At this time, we don’t have the Lollipop update available, but if that should change, we will be sure to let our customers know via our newsletter or social media pages. Thank you!

      • Garibaldi says

Thanks, Ashley. But I want to know: how much time I have to wait for the lollipop update?, is it coming this month?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Garibaldi. At this time, we are not offering the update, but if that should change, we will absolutely let our customers know via our website and social media channels. Thanks again!

          • Arwin says

I am also interested in updating my Moto G EXT to Lollipop. It would be nice to know the target date, but lacking the target date for release of Lollipop knowing that the update is in your plans would be helpful. Can you tell us if an update is in the works?

If you are planning to update the Moto G EXT to Lollipop will you give your customers guidance on whether to update or not? I used to have an iPhone and sometimes the update to iOS would make the phone slow and less useable.

            Thanks for the info.

          • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We appreciate you reaching out to us, Arwin. We will be offering the Lollipop update to our Moto G EXT users, but we don’t have an exact date at this time. Please be assured it is in the works. When it is available, we will offer our customers guidance on how to update and the steps needed to do so. If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. We would be happy to answer them for you. Thanks again!

  37. Daniel Yonts says

Thinking of purchasing the Moto G EXT.. The features on our web site say it is a 3G phone. Motorola site shows a Moto G 2nd generation as a 4G LTE. Is this the same phone or a older version? I would rather buy the 4G LTE.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Daniel. The Moto G EXT we offer is the 3G version. An unlocked, GSM version of the Moto G 4G LTE version might be compatible with our service by using a SIM card. Can you give us a call at 888-345-5509? We can answer any questions you may have about using that model. Thanks!

  38. ssu says

Would you consider offering moto E 4G LTE 2nd gen, Global GSM (XT1505)?
I think there are many other customers with my profile: baby boomer with enough tech skills to manage this phone & want to travel abroad while still able bodied. Thank you for your great service – we have used CC for several years with our $35 Motorola flip phone.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the suggestion! We do try to offer a variety of phones that meet the needs of our customers, and our lineup changes throughout the year. If we add any new products we will be sure to let our customers know via our newsletter, website and social media sites. Thank you again!

  39. Diana says

Forgot to ask how we can find out what cases you offer at consumer cellular for the Moto G ext. Was on the website but couldn’t find a link, etc. Thanks. D.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Diana. We can detail the options available for your Moto G EXT if you give us a call at 888-345-5509. We can get one on the way to you! Thank you for reaching out to us.

  40. Paul says

Moto G verses Moto G EXT (2nd Gen) either are or are not both 4G LTE. Consumer Cellular says both are and Motorola says only the G is. Help!!!!!!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, Paul. Both the Moto G and the Moto G EXT that we offer are not LTE devices. If you have any questions about our phones, feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to comment!

  41. Harvey says

I am considering switching from Sprint to CC. 1. How can I port my contact list & their phone numbers to a new Motorola G-EXT?
    2. Is today’s G EXT 4G?
    3. I may switch four lines from Sprint to CC. What is the largerst data plan available to share between 4 lines?
    4. Visited a Walmart in Dallas, TX (prestonwood store) today. Their “techie” knows nothing about either Consumer Cellular or the Motorola G EXT.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We would be happy to assist you with that, Harvey. All you need to do is give us a call. It’s important to keep your previous service until we complete the transfer, that way we can port your existing phone number, which we will take care of on our end. With our new and improved plans, we now offer a 4GB text and data plan that can be shared by users on the same account. As for the Moto G EXT, it is the equivalent of the Moto G (2014) and it is a 3G HSDPA phone. We can answer any questions you may have about the porting process or about any of our phone models. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you commenting!

Why won’t consumer cellular update the moto g to lollipop?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Ded. We are planning on offering the Lollipop update to our Moto G EXT customers, but we don’t have an exact date at this point in time. We will be sure to let our customers know when it is available through our website and our social media pages. We can also answer any questions you may have regarding the update over the phone. Just call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to comment, and have a great day!

  45. Henry Blegen says

Is this phone ever going to get android lollipop, if so when, I would really love it! Thanks.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s a great question, Henry. We are planning on offering the Lollipop update to our Moto G EXT customers, but we don’t have an exact date at this time. We will be sure to alert customers to the update via our website and social media channels. If you have any question about the update or about any other features of your Moto G EXT, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. We will be happy to assist you! Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

Lollipop for CC is here. Hooray!!!

  47. Dave says

Is the lollipop 5.0.1 update for moto g ext only released to groups of people at a time since my buddy got his update on the same phone but I haven’t received my update? I tried to check for updates but says software is up to date. Is there another way to get the update so I am not stuck with android 4.4.4

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Dave. The update is being pushed out by the manufacturer over a short period, so please keep an eye out for it. We don’t have another option to get the update at this time, but if you don’t receive it soon, please let us know at 888-345-5509. Thank you for reaching out to us!

      • Lynne says

When will Lollipop be available for the CC Moto G? Is the update also being pushed in waves to CC phones? Thanks.

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Lynne. The Lollipop update is currently being sent to our Moto G EXT customers in waves. Please keep an eye out for the update notification on your phone. If you don’t get the update within the next week, please let us know so we can get it on the way to you. Thanks for the comment!

OMG. I have been waiting for the update to my CC Moto G for 5 months. Will it ever arrive? They tell us yes, but that’s it.

          • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, Foster. The update is being rolled out in batches, so keep an eye out!

  48. Barbara g says

What about the most g ext? My friend got this update a week ago. Same phone and consumer cellular customer as am I, and her phone is newer! I actually referred her to CC yet I didn’t get the update yet. What gives? When can we expect the update for all moto g ext owners?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Barbara. The update is being sent out to all of our Moto G EXT customers, so please be patient. If you haven’t received the update by next week, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. We can take a look at your account, and get that update sent to you. Thank you again for reaching out to us!

I bought the Moto X at Christmas 2014. It was my first smart phone and I found it quite challenging. In order to get one response, it was often necessary to enter one or two more commands ( not at all direct). It appeared slow, taking take 1 -2 minutes to get voice mail to ask fro my pin …. I still find it hard to maneuver and most frustrating. I want a smart phone and would like to trade it for one of same value when my current contract expires? What is your recommendation for a different phone that is compatible with Consumer Cellular guidelines?
I have been told there are classes to tutor and demonstrate Moto X functions.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Bonnie. Learning a new smartphone can be frustrating, which is why we offer a variety of support features for our customers. We have helpful How-To videos that guide you through popular functions like text messaging and using Bluetooth. We can also help you over the phone, and go through any functions with you so that you feel confident in using your phone. As for a cellphone that would work well with our service, an unlocked GSM phone or one previously used with AT&T or T-Mobile would be the best fit. If you have any questions about a particular model, we would be happy to answer them for you at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking time to ask these questions, and we hope to see you as a customer soon!

  50. Skip Schwarz says

Does Moto G Ext have HD Voice or VoLTE? A previous response to a question on clarity said it was very good. Record a lot of interviews over the phone and need something with excellent sound.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, Skip. The Moto G EXT is not an LTE device, but it is HSDPA, which provides speed and clarity. With our 30 day, 300 minute, 300 text message or 300MB of data Risk-Free Guarantee, you can try the Moto G EXT, and return it free of charge if it isn’t the right phone for you. You can learn more about the Moto G EXT here, and read some of the reviews from our customers who are currently using the device. Thank you for reaching out to us today!

  51. jrr says

I have the moto g ext and I received the lollipop update notice. If I select the link for “release notes” it takes me to a Motorola website that says this a release for T-Mobile. What is going on, I thought CC uses the at&t network. Should I use this update? What version of lollipop is this (5.????)?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting. I see that Holly, one of our customer service representatives, was able to assist you with the update via email. The Lollipop update that is currently available for our customers is version 5.0.2. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with. Have a great day!

      • JRR says

no she was’t able to help out over email. Told me to call in, I don’t have time to do that and no explanation why support on this can not be done over email.

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re sorry for any confusion, JRR. You will only want to install a system update when prompted by your phone. To see if the correct one is available, go to Settings, then scroll down to “About Phone”, then select “System Update”. If you see an update available, then you can install it. This will allow your phone to update to the Lollipop operating system. If you need additional assistance, we will need to assist you over the phone at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you reaching out to us!

  52. Penny says

Can you tell me does the case for the Moto 6 also fit the Moto 6 Ext?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Penny. The Moto G and the Moto G EXT are not the same size, so the cases would be different. Thank you for commenting!

  53. Steve says

I really love your service and the Moto G phone is great for the price! I am curious as to why the phone is locked when I paid cash for it and it is without a contract. Why is that?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Steve. Most phones come locked to a particular provider when they are purchased from the manufacturer. We will absolutely unlock any phone for a customer as long as they are not currently participating in our EasyPay financing plan. If you would like your phone to be unlocked, all you need to do is give us a call and we will take care of that for you. Thank you!

  54. Jason says

First, I love the service and moto g ext. But I was wondering if Consumer Cellular will be offering the Lollipop 5.1 update. Thanks.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Jason. We are currently providing the Lollipop update to our Moto G EXT customers, so please be on the lookout for it. A notification will appear on your phone, so all you need to do is follow the prompts. We’re glad you are enjoying your Moto G EXT, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy the update even more! Thanks again for taking the time to comment today!

      • Jason says

The update you say is being provided is the Lollipop 5.0.2 update. I was wondering when you will be providing the Lollipop 5.1.x update.

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Jason. The updates are provided via the manufacturer, so at this time, so we can’t say at this time when the 5.1 update will be available. We’ll be sure to update our customers when any updates are available. If we can answer any questions about your phone for you, we would be happy to assist at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to post, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  55. Dale Trimble says

will you have the doro 820 smart phone at any time in the future

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Dale. At this time, we don’t have any other new additions to our lineup. We consider Doro to be a strong partner, so we’ll keep you posted if there are any new devices in the future. We’ll be sure to let our customers know via our blog, website and social media channels. Thanks for commenting!

  56. Lucille says

I am currently a Consumer Cellular Customer and was thinking of buying the Moto G EXT. Would I be able to upgrade to lollipop?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great choice, Lucille. The Moto G EXT is a great smartphone, and our versions are currently receiving updates to the Lollipop system. You can find the Moto G EXT at your local Target or Sears store, on our website here, or you can call us to order it at 888-345-5509. Whichever option works best for you, we’re sure you’ll enjoy it! Thank you for reaching out to us today, we appreciate it!

    • kim Watrous says

I just bought the motorola moto G ext and it up graded to lollipop 5.0.2

  57. walt says

I have had the moto g ext since last October, love the phone. Recently, after an automatic update, when I turn the phone on the screen go directly to the contacts list instead of the home screen. Is there a wway to change this

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Walt! It sounds as if you may be accidentally touching the bottom, left corner of the unlock screen. This Lollipop operating system feature is meant to be a shortcut to your contacts, but can be frustrating if that isn’t what you want! Try dragging from the center directly up to unlock the screen. If the issue persists, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. We’ll be happy to troubleshoot that with you! We appreciate you taking the time to comment, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

Got the new Moto G 3rd gen. Its best part is IPX7 water protection. IPX7 rating means that the handset can survive a dip in up to 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes, so long as its back cover is tightly sealed. And to save it from occasional falls, I got its stand case from ebay.

  59. bill grena says

I’m having problems finding a screen saver for the moto e lte as well as the moto g ext. is the moto g ext second generation 2015 compatible with the moto g ext. could you recomend a web site where i can find the accesories i need. thanks bill

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Bill! Thanks for the question. It seems as though many people find screen savers and other types of accessories on websites like Amazon or E-Bay. Alternatively, it’s worth checking Motorola’s website to see if they have any options to your liking.

  60. Pat says

My husband and I just purchased a moto g lte and moto e last night at Sears. I saw that the moto e is 4G and the lte is 3G according to above posts. Why didn’t they make the lte 4G?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Pat. The Moto E LTE is a different model of phone, and at this time, we only offer the Moto G EXT with 3G capabilities. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have about your phones, so please give us a call at 888-345-5509 if we can help you in any way. Congratulations on your new phones, and we appreciate you taking the time to comment today!

      • Adam says

Any plans for consumer cellular to offer motorola g third generation? Or any experience getting motorola g third gen purchased elsewhere to work on consumer cellular network?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Adam. Our customers have enjoyed both generations of the Moto G with our service, and if we add the third generation to our lineup, we will be sure to let our customers know here on the blog and on our social media pages. Our Phones page on our website would be updated as well. In general, an unlocked, GSM version of the Moto G will likely work well with our SIM card. The best way to know for sure is to try one of our SIM cards in the device. You can find them at your local Target or Sears store, here on our website, or we can help you order one over the phone at 888-345-5509. Just let us know which option is most convenient for you! Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

  61. John says

I just got the new Moto G 2015 LTE (16 G memory/2 G RAM) and a CSR was great in helping me set up the APN’s for 3G and LTE. However only 3G is working. I called back to try to get LTE working and got a guy who insisted that “our customers don’t want the latest and greatest” I asked about a couple of things I read on forums about needing to set up my account to enable LTE or even needing a new SIM card. He wanted none of that…. He was of the opinion 3G is working be happy. “You should have bought a phone from us if you wanted LTE to work” was another statement.

So my real question is: Does CC support LTE on the MOTO G 2015 (aka,3rd gen). The support site indicates that it does and the 1st CSR thought it should. Does anyone have one that is working on LTE? Thanks!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Excellent questions, John. First, I apologize for the confusion. I was able to take a look at your account, and I see that we were able to get this taken care of for you and that your new phone is able to utilize the LTE signal. If you have any further issues, please let us know at 888-345-5509. Thank you for reaching out to us, and we hope you enjoy your new phone!

      • John says

Thanks Ashley! The person I spoke to today was GREAT! He listened to my questions and said that the sim cards CC uses work for LTE, so I didn’t need a new one. He then checked my account to make sure LTE was set up. It was not but he enabled it and verified my APN settings. I was able to show an LTE signal but it seemed slower than 3G. Could be my current location but I’m traveling next week and will try it in different cities. Thank you for the follow up.

  62. fitzroy chisholm says

does the moto g ext have face time feature?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Fitzroy. The Moto G EXT does not have Face Time, which is a feature only available on iPhone. You can try a similar service such as Skype or Google Hangouts if you would like to communicate using the front facing video camera. If we can answer any questions for you, just let us know at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to comment today!

  63. Emily says

I want to buy a wallet style case specifically for my Moto G EXT . I am confused about the size of case. Any ideas?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Emily. When looking for a case, try searching for the Motorola Moto G (2nd Generation). This is the same phone as the Moto G EXT, and it may be easier to search under that name. Thank you for posting today!

      • Shirlz says

It’s frustrating that you would change the name of the phone just to confuse people and make them think it’s better or different from the Second Generation. What’s with that? And ordering off Amazon, I can get it in two days and NOT HAVE TO BE AT HOME TO SIGN FOR IT from the post office, which is INCREDIBLY STUPID.

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Shirlz. I’ve responded to your other comment as well. We chose the name Moto G EXT as we also offer the Moto G first generation, and didn’t want our customers to be confused. You are welcome to use our SIM card with an unlocked version of the Moto G, but we can’t guarantee every feature will work, though we are happy to give it our best try. Thank you for your feedback, and we’re happy to answer any questions you may have at 888-345-5509. Have a wonderful day!

  64. Joe says

Will CC have Moto g 3rd gen available any time soon? Waiting!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Joe. Our lineup is constantly changing, but we don’t have any new Android smartphones at this time. If we add any new options, we’ll be sure to let you know here on the blog, our social media channels and in our newsletter. Thank you for commenting today!

  65. David says

I just purchased a Moto G 3rd gen directly from Motorola and opened up an account with Consumer Cellular. Voice is working but texting and web are not. I called CC support but they weren’t very helpful. Basically said to go to CC’s web site and search for how to set it up. I have done that and I have searched for hours on the web and tried many different APN settings but none of them are working. If someone has this same phone and have it working, would you please post your APN settings for me?

    Thanks a lot!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re sorry for the frustration, David. Occasionally, we have to try a few different combinations to get everything up and running. I’ve emailed you new settings, so please let us know if that doesn’t resolve the issue. If you run into any problems, please feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for reaching out to us!

  66. Ashley says

Will the moto g ext be upgraded to android marshmallow 6.0 or even lolipop 5.1.x with the stage fright fix?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Ashley. Software updates are provided by the phone manufacturers, as the recent Lollipop update was. If you see a notification appear on your phone prompting you to download the latest Android operating system, please follow the instructions provided. You can also see if any updates are available for your phone by going to Settings, then System Updates. If we become aware of any new updates, we will be sure to let our customers know here on the blog and on our social channels. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509, and we appreciate you taking the time to post!

      • Ashley says

I have received the 5.0.2 update and I know Motorola released the 5.1.1 update for the phone but I was asking if consumer cellular was going to upgrade this phone to 5.1.x or even 6.0.

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re happy to clarify, Ashley. If Motorola offers the update, it will get sent straight to your phone. At this time, we don’t know when they will make it available.

  67. Jacob says

I too am interested in knowing if the phone will be upgraded to Android marshmallow 6.0? I know Motorola is in the process of updating the 2nd gen moto g marshmallow.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Jacob. At this point, Marshmallow has not been made available to the Moto G EXT. As the updates are provided by Motorola, we don’t always have insight into when they will be sent to your device. You can always check for updates by going to your Settings app, then About Phone, then System Updates. If any are available, you can download them there. You may also receive a notification that an update is available. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we will be happy to assist you. Thank you for reaching out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

  68. Henry says

I just got the moto g (3rd gen) and I’m wondering why I can’t update to marshmallow?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s a great question, Henry. Unfortunately, we don’t have any control over when the phone manufacturer makes the update available. When Motorola provides it to our customers, you’ll see a prompt on your screen to download it. You can also check to see if it or any other updates are available by going to your Settings, then going to System Updates. If we find out that the update is becoming available, we will be sure to let our customers know. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. Thank you for commenting today, and we hope you enjoy your new Moto G LTE!

  69. Jeremy says

Motorola has released the marshmallow update to the Moto g 2nd gen. When will you be releasing it?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Jeremy. Once the update is released by Motorola, it will be delivered to your phone. As it is released in waves, we can’t say exactly when your phone will get it. You can always go to Settings, then scroll to the very bottom and select System updates. You can then check for any new system updates and follow the steps from there. If you have any questions about updating the operating system for your phone or if we can assist you with anything else, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

  70. Aaron says

I was wondering if Android Marshmallow (6.0) has been released for the consumer cellular Moto g ext yet.

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Aaron. Android updates are released by Google directly and unfortunately we don’t have any insight into when they’ll be released to specific devices. Thanks for the question, and please let us know if you need anything else.

  71. Audrey says

Unfortunately I dropped my Motorola GT phone and cracked my screen all the way down the phone. Where and how much will it cost to get it replaced? Thanks for your help.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I’m happy to help you, Audrey. If your phone has Square Trade coverage, you may be able to file a claim for the damage. You can find more information about that process here. If you do not have Square Trade, you may be able to find a local shop to assist you. Unfortunately, we don’t have the ability to repair your phone. If we can assist you further, please give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we will be happy to help you. Thank you for reaching out to us!
