Ingenuity and Value From a Name You Trust— the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016)

Samsung is a respected giant in the world of electronics and technology, which is one of many reasons we’re pleased to be adding the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) to our smartphone lineup—and at a great price. It’s available now for only $125!

A wonderful blend of innovative features and customizable options make this the perfect choice for any user. It runs on an Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system driven by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, providing lightning quick responsiveness. It also supports 4G LTE, currently the strongest type of mobile network, giving you impressively swift download speeds.

The 5.0” HD Super AMOLED display offers a crisp, bright picture and amazing graphics. This not only makes it tremendously easy to navigate the touch screen, but is also a perfect compliment for capturing and viewing great photos with the 5.0MP camera, or videos using the 1080p HD video capture and playback. There’s 16.0GB of built-in memory, allowing you to store more than 5,000 photos or 2,500 songs directly on the device.

There are plenty of other essentials, too. You get an MP3 music player, and full Bluetooth® wireless connectivity for hands-free use. The phone is lightweight, and hearing-aid compatible.  You’ll get a robust 22 hours of talk time on a single charge. There’s an Easy Mute feature, which silences incoming calls when the phone is placed facedown, and Smart Alert to make the phone vibrate when you pick it up if you’ve missed any calls or messages. And here’s a perfect option for the bright sunny days of summer—Outdoor Mode, which lets you set screen brightness beyond the maximum level!

If you prefer a simpler experience but still want to enjoy the benefits of cutting edge Android technology, there’s an optional “Easy Mode.” It turns on conveniently, and transforms the phone’s interface to display fewer, larger icons. You can also add apps or contacts to Easy Mode with just a few clicks, letting you personalize which items you’ll have fast access to. We even have a How-To video detailing how to set this up, which you can view here.

Best of all, whichever way you use it you’re getting the trademark reliability and ingenuity that come with Samsung’s flagship product. It’s smartphone technology you can count on for performance and value.

The Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) is available online, at Target or Sears stores, or by calling us at (888) 345-5509. Take a look at our video below to see for yourself everything this phone offers, and how easy it is to use.

Yes, I would have ordered the Samsung 3 weeks ago instead of a phone I’ve never heard of if I had known.

Ashley, I’m having a terrible time trying to use my phone with consumer cellular. I’ve programed all I can on internet, but I can’t call out or receive calls. What should I do?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That sounds frustrating, Paula! I saw that we were able to assist you on our Facebook page, and help you get your phone up and running! If this should happen again, please try turning your phone off, then back on again. That often solves a connection issue. 3. Bjorn Nabergall says

Hey, I don’t know if this will get a response, but Will you ever consider some sort of rental or trade in program? Im currently looking to get a new phone as my old one broke, and the iphone 6s plus catches my eye, but no doubt in 3 months or so the iphone 7 will come. I can’t be without a phone for long, do you have any options for someone who recently purchased a iphone 6s plus via easy pay and wishes to get the iphone 7 instead?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s a great suggestion, Bjorn. At this time, we don’t have a trade in or rental program available. A good solution may be to borrow an older device from a friend or family member, then use our SIM card with it. Then when the iPhone 7 or other device becomes available, you can easily make the switch. Our SIM cards can be used with most unlocked, GSM devices, such as those used previously with AT&T or T-Mobile. You can learn more about them here on our website, or we can help answer any questions at 888-345-5509. I’ve also passed your idea on to our management team for review, so thank you for sharing it with us! Thank you again for posting, and we hope to welcome you to Consumer Cellular soon!

  4. Larry says

So I am interested in changing to this phone, but I am also interested in benefiting from Target’s trade-in policy for my current iphone 5s. Your customer service replied to me that this phone is going to be available in stores. Both Target and Sears are not listing this as one of the Consumer Cellular choices and no one at either of my local stores here in the Houston area seems to know anything about it or if they will get it. I would like to have some anticipation of timing with Target.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Larry! Most Target locations will now have this device, but as it is new, it may not yet be available in your area, but should be there by the end of this week. You can always see which models are available at our retail locations by searching with our Retail Store Locator option here. We appreciate you taking the time to post today, and we hope you have a great day!

  5. Sherri says

I have this phone ordered for my Mother and myself. I sure hope it is a easy changeover process as it took me forever to get my Mother to finally make “that change”. If things don’t go seemingly, I will NEVER convince her to change again! Wish me luck!! We are expextingour phones by the end of the week.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We think you’ll both love the Samsung J3, Sherri! It’s a great Android device, and it even comes with an optional “Easy Mode”, which may be perfect for your mother as she gets to know her new smartphone. We even have a How-To video here detailing how to set it up. If we can answer any questions you may have, please feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. Our account advisors will be happy to help! Thank you for taking the time to post today, and let us know what you think once you’ve tried your new device!

  7. Joseph says

I want to know what you think of switching from envoy to Doro Phone Easy 626? Will I be happier or disappointed?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Joseph. The Doro PhoneEasy 626 does have a few more features than your Envoy. It was designed specifically with seniors in mind, so the buttons are larger and raised, the font on the menu is bigger, and there is even an emergency response button. We think you’ll find it to be a great fit. And, with our Risk-Free Guarantee, you’ll have 30 days to try it to see if you like it. If not, you can return it, and we’ll be happy to help you find a better device for your needs. If you’re ready to order, we’re happy to help you with that at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post here on the blog, and we think you’ll really enjoy the Doro 626!

  8. Len says

It’s great that you are now offering Samsung products. How about offering some of the top of the line products like the Galaxy S7 or Note 7? I would gladly purchase one of those through CC. The only options for those today is purchasing the International versions with questionable support and warranties.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Len! We are very happy to be offering such a great Samsung device to our customers. At this time, we don’t have any other Samsung devices available. If that should change in the future, we will be sure to post about it here on the blog and through other channels. Our SIM card is a good option if you do find a Galaxy S7 or Note 7 that you would like to use. Just be sure that it is an unlocked, GSM version. If we can answer any questions you may have about our devices or our service, we’re happy to do so at 888-345-5509. We appreciate your feedback, and that you took the time to reach out to us. Thank you again, and have a great day!

  9. james says

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great news, James. It’s just $10 a month to add an additional line to your plan. Your current plan will be shared between that Samsung Galaxy J3 and your Doro 824, and best of all, calls made between the two lines are free of charge. It’s easy to get started! Just give us a call at 888-345-5509, or add the line by using the My Account section of our site here. Sharing a plan is a great way for everyone to save money and get great service. Thank you for posting, and we look forward to speaking with you soon!

  10. Jane Ugolini says

I wanted to purchase the samsung phone; however, easy pay is not offered. How disappointing. $125.00 all at once is a bit steep. I thought Consumer Cellular was different than other companies but alas they are not.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Jane. While we do our best to offer a variety of affordable options to our customers, we know that a smartphone can be a significant investment. We’re happy to talk with you about the features you want in a device, then make a recommendation that would be more comfortable with your budget. Please call us at 888-345-5509, and we will be happy to work with you to find the perfect phone. We appreciate your feedback, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  11. Pat says

I have had this phone for about a month and just recently callers can’t hear me when i speak.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re happy to help you troubleshoot that issue, Pat. If you like, you can give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we can try adjusting some settings with you that may resolve the problem. Thank you for reaching out to us, and we look forward to speaking with you!

    • Robert Schmitz says

The problem has to do with the Google app Say “OK Google”. It monitors your mic. You need to uninstall it and go back to the factory version. Also uncheck/turn off items in “setting”.

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for sharing that, Robert. It’s always good to hear suggestions that our customers have tried successfully!

  12. Robert Schmitz says

I just purchased the J3 (2016) and found a feature I thought would substitute for my ZTE Mobile Hotspot, Mobile Hotspot and tethering.
Unfortunately it appears not to be supported. Question is, why not?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We appreciate you posting, Robert! The Samsung J3 can be used as a hotspot if you like. We just need you to give us a call at 888-345-5509, and adjust some settings on your phone. It’s quick and easy, so you’ll be able to use that feature in no time at all. Thank you for asking, and we look forward to speaking with you!

  13. Loren and Karen Schoepke says

I previously had a Samsung Galaxy S4. The lower left “soft” button was the “Menu” button. The Galaxy J3, I just purchased, the lower left soft button is the “Recent Apps” soft key. Where is the “Menu” button/function now?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question! You’ll want to use the middle key to open up the “App Finder”, where you’ll be able to see all of the apps on the device. If you need to find the menu within an app, you’ll usually see an option in the top right corner. Feel free to watch our How-To video series here to learn more about the J3. And as always, we’re happy to help you over the phone at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  14. OR says

Currently have one more year on my 2 yr on contract with another carrier using my flip phone. Can I get out of that and go with Consumer Cellular with a new Doro? I am an AARP member, 82 yrs old, hard of hearing and on limited income. Would want greater volume and data pkg.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

It sounds like we would be a great fit for you! Our Doro 626 is specifically designed with seniors in mind, and offers increased volume controls and texting, while our Doro 824 is a great smartphone with easy-to-use features. As an AARP member, you will get a monthly 5% discount on service and usage as well! When you’re ready to get started, just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we will be happy to help you sign up. 15. Dan Ripley says

I’m in Mazatlan, mexico and can’t make calls or get data on my CC J3. Any clues, or am I out of luck? Thanks.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Dan. Our service is designed to only work within the United States, so you won’t be able to have service in Mexico. We recommend putting your phone into Airplane mode when you are visiting another country. You will still be able to connect to a Wi-Fi network, so you can check email or touch base via Facebook. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have via email at [email protected]. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we hope you enjoy your stay!
