We’re deeply humbled by our success, because we know that it’s only possible with the support of all our great customers. That’s why we choose to recognize significant milestones by giving back; it’s our way of honoring everyone who has selected Consumer Cellular for their wireless service. For instance, when we reached the two million-customer mark in 2015, we donated $2 million to the Knight Cancer Challenge.
Fortunately, we’ve kept on growing, so we get to keep on giving. In anticipation of reaching 2.5 million customers this summer, Consumer Cellular is making a donation to Feeding America that will provide 2.5 million meals to families and seniors in need. We’re proud to contribute this on behalf of each of our terrific customers and the dedicated employees who bring them outstanding service.
The Feeding America Network provides food assistance to 46 million people, including 7 million adults age 60 and over. Through its more than 200 food banks, nutritious meals are distributed to food pantries and meal programs in communities across the country.
A donation of $1 helps provide 11 meals, secured by Feeding America on behalf of local member food banks. Consumer Cellular has guaranteed at least 2.5 million meals (the monetary equivalent of $250,000) to Feeding America and member food banks. In the United States today, 1 in 12 senior citizens don’t have access to the nutrition they need to maintain good health. Faced with hunger, seniors find themselves at increased risk for chronic health conditions like depression, heart attack, and congestive heart failure, among other significant challenges.
May 2017 is Older Americans Month, making this the perfect time to raise awareness of this often-overlooked crisis. In addition to our meal donation, Consumer Cellular teams will be volunteering at local food banks, and we’ll also be spotlighting the issue of senior hunger and updating you on our activities through social media. You’ll have a chance to win 100 meals for the food bank of your choice in our trivia contest on Facebook, and you can also follow us on Google +, and Twitter to stay involved.
