Free Day of Service! Our 20th Anniversary Gift to You

October 15, 2015 is a major milestone. It marks our 20th year in business serving you! Of course, many people know about us now. But it’s what we’ve learned from our customers over the years that’s made all the difference, like how you most value affordable and reliable cellular service provided by friendly employees who go the extra mile. Your positive feedback can’t be beat, and it actually energizes and inspires us to offer you more.

In some ways, 1995 doesn’t seem that long ago when Greg Pryor and I co-founded the company in a quiet suburb of Portland, Oregon — all from one office. And, we’re still based 100% in the U.S. and always will be.

Much has changed though all for the better. Our cellphone plans enable more minutes, messages and web data than ever. And, we have a variety of cellphones for most every lifestyle. It’s definitely time to share our joy and celebrate by rewarding you.

So we’re announcing our Free Day of Service — a gift for you, our devoted customers. Talk and text nationwide as much as you’d like on our anniversary day, October 15th, without using any of the minutes or text messages on your monthly plan! Plus, this Free Day of Service includes all text messages sent and received in the U.S. Use as little or as much as you want. With no strings attached!

You don’t need to lift a finger to take advantage of this offer. It’s automated and available to all our customers on that special anniversary day. Connecting you for free with friends and family members is our way to thank you for being our loyal customer. Maybe you have some old friends you want to catch up with or family members who enjoy long conversations. Don’t miss out on this opportunity!

We look forward to hearing from you soon. And, here’s to the many decades ahead!

Happy Anniversary! The free day is the kind of care you are appreciated for. I got my techno-phobe bro to use a cell phone with you! I refer everyone I know to you. Mostly I love paying about 1/4 of what Verizon used to charge….and no contract! Keep it up. You are #1.

Thank you for having the best cellular phone company in America. My friends and even some family have other cell phone suppliers and it seems that they all have problems with other companies. I have never had a problem with cellular one. I have a few family members waiting on their contracts to run out so that they can pick up your service. You are the best! Damon S.

Thanks for all you do for us

  8. Bill Stratford says

Thanks for great USA service! You started in Portland, OR so I think you can appreciate my question; Any plans to offer service beyond our northern border into Canada? One doesn’t appreciate the service you provide until it stops near the border crossing, and like many in the northwest we need coverage for those occasional trips into the Great White North, eh?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the suggestion, Bill. At this time, our service is only available in the U.S., but we appreciate you giving us your feedback. Hearing suggestions from our customers helps us determine new plan features and more. I’ve forwarded your comments on to our management team, and if we should ever offer service in Canada, we’ll be sure to post about it here on our blog. Thank you for your comment, and for the kind words!

      • Brian McLoughlin says

I have the same request as Bill, to get a rate for coverage in Canada. I am a Canadian living in the US (WA) and would really appreciate the ability to call Canada without breaking the bank, especially since I have just ported my land line to CC, so it is going to get spendy for Canadian calls.

  9. Frances says

I have been pleased with Consumer Cellular since day one.

  10. Shirley says

We have been CC customers since 1998, except for about 2 yrs when we moved out of Consumer Cellular service area. But it wasn’t long til I started seeing Consumer Cellular commercials in our area. I jumped right on that, and have never looked back. Consistently very knowledgable reps. They are also the most pleasant people! I really appreciate the fact that it completely USA based, too. I really can’t say enough positive things about Consumer Cellular. They reps are so patient with those of us who are tech handicapped, when it comes to helping set up a new phone or any other tech problem. Thank You.

  11. gloria says

Thank-You for the outstanding customer service . i recently bought a new smartphone no idea how to use and one of your customer service reps spent a while to help me with my setup . Thank-you for being so good with your older customers who struggle with technology of any kind.AWESOME since day one .thanks for all you do

  12. Sarah murphy says

Your service stinks. I am so sorry I choose you as my carrier. When I call I have to wait too long. One time I waited for one hour and fifteen mins. In one week my phone wouldn’t, give me service two times. I am very unhappy with this service.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re sorry to hear that, Sarah. I was able to take a look at your account, and I see that our customer service Lead, Julia, has been in touch with you to discuss your experience. Thank you for letting us know about these issues, and if we can assist you with anything else at this time, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you for commenting today!

I have heard many numbers and hours of your customer service. What are those numbers and what are your telephone hours?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Leroy. The best number to call for customer service is 888-345-5509. We’re open Monday through Friday from 5am to 9pm, and weekends from 6am to 8pm. We are located on the west coast, so that would be Pacific Standard Time. Email is a great option no matter what time of day it is, and you can reach out to us at [email protected]. 19. Gayle says

I love C.C., but when will I be able to order an Iphone 6s plus Rose Gold 64? My Target doesn’t have them in stock either.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Gayle. We will be updating our website when more phone are available. For the most up to date numbers, please give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we’ll be happy to tell you if we have that model available for you. We appreciate your patience, and thank you for commenting!

      • Gayle says

I know I should be patient, but the new iPhone 6s plus was supposed to be my gift for our 40th Anniversary which was Sept 27th. I hope it comes soon and not in Dec. like a target employee told me.

  20. diana maples says

I have a question, I really want to get the galaxy 6 phone. I can get one off of ebay unlocked for a decent price. Is it compatible with consumer cellular and would i have to order a sim card from you? I have emailed 3 times in reference to this question but no response.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We apologize for not responding to your email, Diana. In general, unlocked phones used previously with AT&T or T-Mobile work best with our service as they use the same GSM network as we do. While we can’t guarantee that our service will work with any phone, we’re happy to give it our best shot! You would need one of our SIM cards, and you can order one over the phone or online, or pick one up at a Target or Sears store. We’ll even give you a $10 credit on your first month’s invoice so you don’t pay anything out of pocket. If you’re ready to get started, just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we’ll be happy to assist you. Thank you for reaching out to us!

by the I love the service, granted verizon has better coverage, but I hated the customer service. I was a customer of verizon for 15 yrs and paid 170 for unlimited on everything. Well a friend of mine had the same deal but she was only paying $70.00 I called them and they wouldn’t change my plan. Needless to say they lost my service as if they cared.

    • diana maples says

Also, I have gotten several people to sign up on Consumer Cellular. My dad who is hard of hearing has a phone that he can actually hear on. Thank you!

  22. Tim says

I’ve been a customer for a mere two months, and I must say your service has been impeccable. I’ve saved money and had better access. The only thing that could make CC better is an app to access my account and pay my bill. I hope this is in the offing soon. Another thing to consider, though probably more complicated than an app, is the availability of a SIM card for foreign travel, I.e. Caribbean, while keeping my number. I realize this will cost extra, but something to consider as the company grows. I offer these as suggestions for the future. Keep up the good work!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great news, Tim. We do have an app for that! I was able to take a look at your account, and I see you are using a SIM card with your own phone. You can download the My CC app from iTunes or the Google Play Store, whichever option works with your phone’s operating system. Our app allows you to see your usage in real time, make changes and pay your bill. As for your suggestion of an international SIM card, we always appreciate hearing new ideas! I’m happy to send that one on to our management team. Thank you for taking the time to post, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  23. rick adams says

I have been a cc customer for over 7 years, I love it. I wouldn’t even consider changing. I have several family members and friends that I have switched to cc. They all love the service and rates along with option to adjust their plans when needed. I plan on being a customer for life. Thank you for being such a great company and backing up what you say you are. Happy Birthday CConsumer Cellular and thank you again.

  24. Carolyn Duran says

I’ve been a customer with Consumer Cellular since October 2013, so It’s my/our anniversary as well. My calls to customer service have been positive. After being with AT&T for 28 years, I’m so glad I made this change. Congrats on your anniversary and thank you for the customer appreciation day!

  25. Karen says

WOW! A free day to talk and text…thank you. I have been a customer for a little more than 2 years. I am very happy with the plans and prices, the selection of phones and your customer service. Too bad the cable company can’t be like you 🙂

  26. Kelly Eslinger says

Thank you for your outstanding affordable cellular plans with no monthly contracts! This is far better than my old cellular company I had been a customer for over 10 years before I found out about Consumer Cellular almost three years ago.

I wouldn’t want to go to anybody else at this point. Thanks, and happy 20th anniversary, Consumer Cellular!

  27. Debra says

I called yesterday to activate my new sim card. I got that taken care of with no problem. Then I told them to deactivate my old number. They deactivated my Son’s number instead. Now I have to wait for them to call me back to get this straightened out. This is not the first time this has happened. But it had better be the last or I am going to cancel everything!!!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re sorry for the frustration, Debra. I was able to take a look at your account, and I see that Joel, our customer account advisor, tried calling you back yesterday. Please give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we will be happy to get this issue resolved for you. Thank you for reaching out today, and please know that we appreciate your patience.

  28. David says

Far out, man! — a free day. It’s been since September 2008 when we discovered and signed on with Consumer Cellular, and we’ve never looked back (it’s so good seeing AT&T in the rear view mirror!). Thank you!

  29. Nancy says

Any way that Consumer Cellular can include Landline telephone service too? Love the lower price of cell phone but we have a big bill from Verizon with our landline, don’t want to give up the landline, just wondering if Consumer Cellular could cover landline and cell phones together? Just curious…

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, Nancy. We don’t currently offer a landline option, but if that should change in the future, we’ll be sure to let our customers know here on the blog and on our social media channels. We appreciate the suggestion! Thank you for taking the time to post today.

  30. Ron Kraus says

I sent CC an email explaining my frustration about wait time. Your website stared a response would be returned in one to two business days. No response yet. Just wondering what happened to the great customer service I was accustomed to receiving?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We apologize for the wait, Ron. I was able to take a look at your account, and I see that Derrick, our customer service lead, tried to give you a call. He also responded to you via email if that is a more convenient option for you. Our team is working diligently to hire more qualified customer account advisors so wait times will be reduced, and we do appreciate your patience in the meantime. Thank you for getting in touch with us, and we look forward to assisting you with your account.

  31. Sue says

I am very happy with my CC service but wish there was a 500min. option as it is a big jump from 250 to 750. That being said I increased my minutes from 250, with ease, as I seemed to be talking too much to stay at that lower level.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re glad to hear you enjoy our service, Sue. Thank you for giving us feedback about our plans. It’s very helpful for us, and assists us in creating useful plans for our customers. I’ve forwarded your suggestion on to our management team for review. Thank you for commenting today!

  32. Luz m montero says

My husband and I have the iPhone 6 plus ! Can I use your plan instead of AT&T ?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Luz. It sounds like your iPhones would be a good fit, as our SIM cards work best with phones used previously with AT&T or T-Mobile. First, you’ll need to make sure your iPhone is unlocked, which must be done by your previous carrier. Once that is confirmed, you’ll just need one of our SIM cards. You can pick one up from your local Target or Sears store, or you can order one through our site or over the phone at 888-345-5509. Please give us a call if you have any questions about our service, we would be happy to answer them for you. We appreciate you taking the time to comment today!

  33. Marvin says

Thank you consumer cellular, being old I appreciate your people take in helping me, they are patient and understanding when I ask dumb questions. I am so glad that I have consumer cellular, you are the greatest.

  34. Tom C. says

This is terrific. Thanks. I’ll spread the word.
You guys have supplied great service and great customer service since day one. I wish I had known about you sooner.

  35. Sharon says

Love Consumer Celluar!!!! give it 5 star rating out of 5

  36. Therese says

I very pleased with CC, but to make a great service even better, I would like to have the option of allowing CC to change my plan at the end of the month to whatever is the least expensive for my final usage. I often am right on a threshold calculating whether a bigger plan or a small overage fee will be cheaper. Also, does each in-account text still count as 2 (one for incoming and one for outgoing)? If yes, I think they should only count as one, or better yet, be free like minutes are. Finally, having separate plans for text and data would be nice. I use a lot more texts than data. Oh, and one more suggestion… Have min/text/data rollover to just that next month. That way just the previous months extras would be available. I realize too much of a rollover could put you out of business and none of us want that!!:) Thanks for your time!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for all of those great suggestions, Therese! We truly take customer feedback in mind when we’re updating our plans, so thank you for sharing your thoughts! We recommend checking your usage in the last few days before your billing cycle ends, as you can change to a lower plan up until that very last day. That way you won’t need to pay for minutes or data you aren’t using. I’ve passed your suggestions on to our management team, and we’re glad to hear that you’re enjoying our service. If we can assist you with anything at this time, we’re happy to do so at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

  37. Sandy D. says

Your service is the best! My husband and I have been CC customers for several years and have had several phones. I upgraded to the Moto G in April and have been very happy with it. I did, however, have a problem with the battery not staying charged. After a couple of phone calls to customer service and doing two different resets, it was determined that it was faulty. I received a new phone, called to activate and migrate my info from the old phone to the new phone smoothly. Your reps never make me feel stupid and are always patient and helpful. I’m very happy to be a CC customer – twice while in Target, I told other customers how great Consumer Cellular is. Hopefully that resulted in two new customers! Keep up the good work. I’m thrilled about the free day on Oct 15 – what a nice gift to your customers.

  38. Myra says

I love being a consumer cellular customer. I have been with you for a few years. I was with A t&t for 10 years prior to switching over. I loved them too, but with you, I have the same plan and pay slighty over 1/4 the price. Customer service reps are always friendly, although the wait times are always very lengthy. That would be the only thing I would suggest improvement on. I have an iphone 5 now, and i really love it. Thank you for being such a great company!

  39. Kathy Skinner says

We are very pleased with our cell service with Consumer Cellular. we recently upgraded one of our phones to receive data at our cabin in northern/central Michigan and unfortunately the upgrade didn’t help us at all. We were really disappointed. We still have to drive 12 miles to the nearest fast food place that carries WIFI. But we still love your service!!

  40. Shirley says

I appreciate how quickly my new phone arrived after the old one stopped working! Wish it wasn’t so difficult to reach CC by phone. When I called the wait was 5 – 10 minutes, yet CC call back was hours later.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re glad to hear the your new phone arrived quickly, Shirley. Our team is experiencing some high call volume as of late, and we are working to quickly hire qualified customer account advisors to assist our customers. If email is a convenient option for you, we’re always happy to assist you at [email protected]. We appreciate your patience, and please know we are doing all we can to take care of this issue. Thank you for posting, and we hope you have a great day!

      • Debbie watts says

I’m using my text messages on the free day and they are being added on my account? Do they come off at the end of the day

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Debbie. Any text messages you use today will be free of charge, and won’t be deducted from your plan. Thank you!

  41. Connie says

Just wanted to Thank for your great service, my husband and I went to consumer cellar this year to save money as we are retired on a fixed income, but all my kids text so we needed a plan that would allow them to text and not cost us so much money,
Your plans are great and having the luxury of be able to switch plans on my phone in the middle of the month is great. When you call you staff with a question they are kind, curious, and friendly and don’t mine taking the time to help seniors who may not understand something. Thanks to all of you for a great phone system, user friendly system and friendly and kind staff.

  42. Paul says

Thanks for the upcoming “one-shot” day of free talk and text. As a Family Plan subscriber, however, I’d be much more appreciative if you would make texting between plan members free every day. Your current policy is ridiculous: a message sent to my wife counts as two texts out of our allotted number of shared text messages — once for sending it, then again for receiving it! So although members of a shared plan are rewarded with free voice minutes on calls among themselves, they are penalized by being double-charged for texts! It makes no sense to anyone outside of Consumer Cellular management.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the feedback, Paul. We appreciate your suggestion regarding our family plans as we are always looking for ways to improve. I’ve sent your feedback on to our management team, who work to create plans that are a good fit for our customers. As always, if you have other suggestions, we would love to hear them at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting today, and we hope you and your family enjoy the Free Day of Service!

  43. Paul says

By the way, as someone in the Eastern time zone, I’d like to know how your Free Day of Service will be calculated. Will it be adjusted to the clock time of the subscriber, or will the day be construed as midnight-to-midnight Pacific Time?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Paul. The time will be adjusted to reflect the customer’s time zone, so in your case it would be Eastern Standard Time. If we can answer any other questions for you about our Free Day of Service, be sure to give us a call at 888-345-5509. And don’t forget to mark it on your calendar, Paul. Thank you for posting!

  44. Tauna says

Happy anniversary CC! Thank you for the free day of service! BTW does that include data also? It would be great if it did! Thank you!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the post, Tauna. Our free day of service is for all talking and texting, so you can reach out to your loved ones. Data will be considered normal usage. Thanks!

  45. Karl Oppenheimer says

I have been back with Consumer Cellular about 4 months now. Was mildly surprised to find out CC went to tmobile network SIMS for new customers in my state! From the data plan side of things – I can see why. Nevertheless, it worked out for me regardless as use CC for data & text only. My phone is dual SIM and get 500 minutes free per month with a government subsidized carrier that uses the ATT network; since my landline is with a cable company. Between the “pay as you go” voice minutes and $5 connect plan and the 500 free I get on another carrier – my wireless bill should not be over $17 with the recent adjustments I made. 1500 texts and 150mb data is more than enough using Wi-Fi whenever I can get signal free around town. Thanks CC for enabling me to cut my wireless bill to bare bones – with that subsidized plan I got for the voice minutes.

  46. Deborah says

Happy 20th Anniversary CC! We switched to you the beginning of this year having been with AT&T since they were the Bell Telephone Companies and are so happy with you. I love it when my girlfriends pull out their red phones like mine and we give each other those knowing, appreciative smiles. Thank you for free minute day. I have it on my calendar. And also, thank you for the free (I think it was 30) international minutes some months ago. I was able to connect with a cousin in London for a nice visit. I also truly appreciate the now-included additional minutes. I no longer feel squeezed for minutes at the end of the billing cycle. Did I remember to thank you?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Deborah! We love the story about you and your girlfriend because after all, friends don’t let friends pay too much for their cellphone service!

  47. ruth rountree says

I am running short of money right now but expect a check at any time, if you can bear with me I’ll have money to pay my bill due in a week or two. Thank you!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the post, Ruth. Please give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we will be happy to discuss payment arrangements with you, so you won’t see any interruptions in your service. We look forward to hearing from you, and we hope you have a great day!

  48. Wayne Keller says

Congrats on your 20 years of service. We have recently switched from another carrier. You pricing is most affordable but the reception signal is not as good. I have several dead spots within my house. One is sitting in my living room just inside the front window! We have called and they have sent some updates. I sure would love to eliminate my land line but I do need a reliable phone to be reached!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Wayne. If the coverage issues persist, we can try sending you a new SIM card to try that might help. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we will be happy to get one on the way to you. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

      • Bridget says

I don’t know what is going on. I have always had service inside my condo for all the years I have used my CC phone and just this past week, I can get no signal or bars. It just shows up as EMERGENCY on the home screen. Would a new SIM card help? I don’t know how to take the old one out and insert the new one. Please help!

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re happy to help you, Bridget! First, try turning your phone off, then removing the backing. Once you take the back off, you’ll be able to see the battery and SIM card. Make sure your SIM card is seated in place, then turn your phone back on. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. We can assist you with further troubleshooting, and send you a new SIM card if that is what’s needed. Thank you for letting us know, and we look forward to getting this resolved for you!

  49. Rick Koch says

Was gonna submit a bunch of great comments about Consumer Cellular, but after first reading through all the current reviews & comments – all I can add is … ditto, ditto, ditto! Easy to see HOW & WHY you remain at #1! Thanks for your quality phones AND – TOP NOTCH service reps!

    • Spark says

Do this company offer free night & weekend?

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Spark. Our minutes can be used anytime, day or night. You can take a look at your plan options here, and best of all, you can change your plan as often as you like. We’re happy to help you get started at 888-345-5509! Thank you for taking the time to comment today.

  50. Duane says

Congrats on your anniversary. Love my service but hoping you may offer a WINDOWS based smartphone in the future. I know they are as popular as Android or Apple phones but I prefer them because they work seamlessly with my other Microsoft applications and devices.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Duane. At this time, we don’t offer any Windows phone options, but you’re welcome to try one with our SIM card. Just be sure to select the unlocked, GSM version. Our SIM cards are a great option if there is a certain device that you really want that isn’t currently in our lineup. We’re happy to help you get started at 888-345-5509. Thank you again for the comment, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

Hey Duane, Ashley’s right: I like WP, too, and I’ve been using my unlocked Nokia Lumia 900 with ConsCell for nearly a year now with no problems. Just a matter of entering the proper APN settings, some of which you can find in the FAQ section of this site. In the end, I still needed help from ConsCell cust. service, but I got connected to a very knowledgeable guy who walked me through the process. Just make sure the phone is GSM (i.e. originally made for AT&T or T-Mobile, NOT Verizon or Sprint). If you’re using one with a GSM carrier now and you’ve been a customer for a while, you’re entitled to get the unlock code, and then you’ll be in business!

I’m another one who would really like a service option for Canada. We summer in the maritimes for a couple of weeks each summer and do not have coverage in New Brunswick, PEI and Nova Scotia. It’s becoming a real issue. I don’t want to leave Consumer Cellular for only a couple of weeks of Canadian service, but it’s becoming an issue. Other providers provide an option for North American service.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We appreciate the suggestions, Linda, so thank you for sharing them with us. We are happy to talk with you about using other options, such as Google Hangouts, which allows you to message someone using Wi-Fi only. Please give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we can discuss some convenient ways to stay in touch when you’re out of the country. I’ve also forwarded your recommendations to our management team for review. Thank you for taking the time to post today!

  52. Pete says

We’ve been with you a little over 2 years now. If the service had been similar to our prior carriers (I’d call their service, on average, “fair”), I would still be happy because we saved a substantial amount of money with you with no long term contract. However, it has been OUTSTANDING. I suspect part of that has to do with the fact that you are based in US and all your reps speak English as their native language, which helps us American customers, but in addition, the reps are knowledgeable and helpful. I have never gotten conflicting info from different reps. My only complaint about Consumer Cellular is that you should also be in the cable/internet/landline business, manufacture cars and trucks, and issue medical insurance, because I’d rather deal with you guys than any of the companies in those businesses!

Happy 20th Anniversary! I wish I had switched from Sprint a long time ago. We were with them for 10 years and we had 3 phones at $130.00 monthly…No smart phones! Your plans are great and having the ability to change plans at any time is wonderful. Thank you for your service and kind staff…Keep it up CC!

  54. Joe says

I’ve been a customer for the past 3 of your 20 years. When I joined I was overwhelmed at your wonderful service, Even including Youtube videos to help with certain features of my phone. I have recommended you to several friends and relatives. Now, the last three times I have been put on hold for a long time. I see this has been a complaint for over a month now. Maybe Consumer Cellular has gotten too big too fast.
Please hire more reps or whatever you need to! Return to customer-centered service.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the feedback, Joe. We do apologize for the hold times, and we’re continuing to hire and train more qualified account advisors. Thank you for your patience, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us today!

  55. Billie Sheppard says

I have been with CC for several years Love the service. I don’t use data really I don’t how to use on the phone. B ever so often it shows data has been used. Wish you would have just talk and text plans for those like me who don’t use. I have laptops and tablets. Thank you for the free day. Keep up all the good work

    • Thomas says

They are services that run in the background that update the device. You can turn them off or set the phone to update only when it is connected to WIFI.

  56. Gary W Foster says

I have been with CC for several years now, left for about 2 or 3 days, but came back after an idiotic mistake I made with Straight Talk. You can’t pry my Moto G outta my hands, A smart move buying a phone smarter than me… lol I think I will be with ya’ll a while longer and just as soon as I win the lottery, I buy another phone smarter than me from you. Happy Annv. CC…. Frank needs to run more, he looks too much outta breath (couch potato)… lol 🙂 Keep up the good work.

  57. Eric says

Not sure if you have a bug with everybody’s bill or just mine. You’ve sent me at least six online bill notices. They’re all the same and not overdue. Anyone looking into this?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Eric. We will take a look at your account and get the issue resolved. Thank you!

  58. Kathy Knapp says

Happy Anniversary Consumer Cellular and thank you for the gift of a free day. I have been a Consumer Cellular cheerleader for a number of years and have never been disappointed. Thank you to all of the management and staff for a job well done!

  59. Jack Moore says

My wife has a 4G phone, I have 3G Doro. We live in central Ky. and the service is great. We travel to eastern Ky. from time to time and the signal is not good. The 4G better than the 3G. Is there any plans to step that area up? I have had your service for sometime now and would not trade for anything else I know of Just concerned about the service in eastern Ky, mountains you know. However we live in central Ky. and all is good.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re glad to hear that you enjoy our service, Jack. I took a look at the coverage in Eastern Kentucky, and overall, there is coverage, but as you’ve said, mountain areas do have fewer towers. To get better coverage, we recommend turning your phones off, then back on when you are in a new area. This will allow it to connect to the nearest tower with a stronger signal. That way you’ll get the best possible signal for that area. If we can answer any questions you may have regarding our coverage or anything else, we’re happy to help you over the phone at 888-345-5509. Thank you again for posting, and we hope you both have a great day!

  60. Sylvia Jones says

I have enjoyed my services since the beginning. I have no complaints. I love your service and the phones that I have gotten, I truly enjoyed. CC keep up the good work and thanks for all you do.

  61. Daniel Dold says

Happy Anniversary! I was wondering why you don’t offer Samsung Galaxy phones. If you had the Galaxy 6 I would get it right away. Just a thought maybe increase your phone offerings. Dan

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the feedback, Dan! Though we don’t currently offer the Galaxy line of phones, we do have many customers who use an unlocked version with our SIM card. That way, you can have the phone you want and still get our number one rated service! You’ll need to be sure you have an unlocked GSM version, and we can’t guarantee that every feature will work with our service. You can pick up one of our SIM cards from your local Target or Sears store, order one on our website here or give us a call at 888-345-5509. We’ll walk you through the settings and activation, and then you’ll be on your way! Thank you for posting, and we hope you have a great day!

I’ve been a Consumer Cellular customer since March of this year, and I am more than happy with the service I get. I recently referred a few of my family and friends to your service, and I’m sure they will be as satisfied as I am

  63. Barbara Ricci says

Congratulations Consumer Cellular on your 20 years of service. !!!
I have been a customer as well as my husband for some time now. I introduced my son to you and he loves it. My husband has since died in 8/2010. I stayed on and even bought another phone. I called Cons. Cell and the woman I spoke to was so nice and helped me with the setting up and where to go to have this done. There was no hassle and it was done so quickly and so efficient. I love you guys and would not think about going any where else. Anytime I call I always receive the answers I am in need of and always a very nice person to help me. I pray you stay in business for ever. Thanks again for all you do. !!! Happy Anniversary to your company and to all those who work with you !!! Barbara

  64. Lillian says

Have been a customer for years, buying my first cell phone from you. Love my new Doro phone which I purchased a few weeks ago. I agree with all the previous comments, Consumer Cellular has been a great company to deal with. Pleasant reps as well as convenient plans. Recently I have had to call CC a few times. I had to hold for a rep several times incurring about 40 minutes all told. I asked the rep whether I have lost all these minutes and charged for them. His reply was that calls between a customer and CC are not charged. Yet on the bill I just received about 40 minutes from several calls both ways was added into my total minutes used. What is your practice with such calls? I appreciate the free day of calls and congratulate you on your 20th Anniversary. A great company!!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Lillian. Calls made to Consumer Cellular will appear on your invoice as an addition to your total minutes used, but they aren’t deducted from your plan. We’ll never charge you for calling us when you need help. We hope you enjoy our Free Day of Service, and thank you for taking the time to post today!

  65. Brenda Schaadt says

Happy Anniversary Consumer Cellular. I have been a customer for many years and love everything about the company and my service. I had been with a few different phone companies previously and they were awful! You make it painless and I like that I can change my plan at any time-wonderful! Also I prefer owning my phone and Consumer Cellular makes it affordable to upgrade when needed. I went into Sears to actually see and hold the phone I was considering and the price was great and the store clerk assisted me with questions and set up!! Your customer service team speaks clearly and is the most helpful-nice group of people I have ever dealt with!! Plus they provide advice that always helps with choice of plans. Thank you for the BEST cellular phone company EVER!!

  66. Bonnie Lahart says

So far I have had great experience with CC. Whenever I call the automated system, it says, I see buy the number you are calling from that you need help. It makes me laugh every time. It is true! Only a customer for a month & 73 yrs young and need help finding out how to work some things. Customer service is always very helpful.

  67. Zanette Easton says

Happy Anniversary Consumer Cellular! Congratulations to you on your successful growth. I’ve been a customer since 1998 when I was a poor college student trying to figure out how to transition from a pager (which were going defunct) to a cell phone to stay in touch but trying to save my hard earned pennies by finding over the internet this new, small company that started in OR and didn’t have contracts. I’ve been with you ever since, and have brought along a few others over the years. I still praise Consumer Cellular highly and recommend you to everyone who mentions cellular services. Thanks for taking care of me and mine and I wish you many more years of growth and success.

  68. Foster Byrd says

Thanks for the recent assistance….Some how my wife had really messed up her phone and it refused to operate in any sane way in which she was accustomed to using it (had a voice repeating everything one touched or tried to do).
My phone is much simpler, so I had to call for service and the nice lady we talked to recognized what my wife had inadvertently done and gave me steps to fix it once she explained the problem.
(My wife had somehow clicked on the application that is an assist to those visually impaired. I followed the instructions and managed to get it back to normal functions.)
I appreciate the patience and assistance of the lady who had to deal with me since I had no idea what had happened. She was very helpful and apparently knew exactly what to do.
Thanks again, and a special thanks to the lady who helped me solve this problem in the middle of the night.

  69. Tilford says

When I was first trying to find a new cell phone service, I chose Consumer Cellular in part because of your very short hold times. I realize now that must be because I was not yet a customer. I called tonight for the first time as a current customer (in this case, to upgrade my plan), but no one answered the phone after 36 minutes (!) so I hung up. I am so disappointed. Could someone please write back to explain 1) why I had to wait so long on Wednesday night, October 14 and 2) if I was charged for those 36 minutes?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We apologize for the hold time and for any frustration it may have caused. Evenings tend to be busy, so we recommend calling in the morning or afternoon if possible. We are open until 9:00pm PST each weekday. A great option if you have questions is to send us an email to [email protected]. You can also change your plan at any time using the My CC app or using the My Account section of our site. Please know that we don’t charge you for minutes when you call us for help, so that will be shown on your invoice as complimentary time. Thank you for your patience, and we look forward to helping you!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking! The free minutes and text messages are only good for calls made within the U.S., but we do offer low rates for calling other countries, including the Philippines. You can find out more on our International Calling page here. We’re also happy to answer any of your questions at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting today!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

  72. Aldegonda says

On this happy free calling day, I have talked with my sister oversees. I am sure the call was free to the border…maybe on the other side there were costs?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I’m happy to clarify, Aldegonda. If your sister calls you from overseas, you won’t be charged for international calling. If you call her, those minutes would count as a international usage. If we can answer any questions for you, we’re happy to help at 888-345-5509. We’re glad to hear you are enjoying your free day!

  75. Florence McLeroy says

Loved the comments and responses! I agree with them! I do have an issue to ask. I loved my DORO and use it constantly but wanted an upgrade. With NOT ‘getting’ how to use it I put it aside and went back to my DORO. It’s great. But is it possible that I could still keep ‘learning/teaching” myself how to use my ‘left in the drawer Android’ with out using $ minutes for actual using “call’ minutes for personal practice? I’m older and not ‘pre-wired’ like you youngsters. I need time to practice then maybe I can return the android on again with then making payments of course. In the meantime, and beyond, I will never part with y ‘comfy’ little DORO. It’s a pleasure and a God-send. I have no kids, no grandkids, etc; just me. Hope there’s a way this can work. Thanks ! Florence

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s a great question, Florence. You can definitely use your Android for practice, all you need to do is remove the SIM card. You won’t be able to make calls, but you can use Wi-Fi, add contacts and practice using the other features. Then, once you’re comfortable, we’ll help you put your SIM card in the Android phone for regular use. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have at 888-345-5509. And, be sure to check out our How-To videos on our Support page. You can follow along and practice at your own pace. Thank you for commenting, and we hope you have a great day!

  76. Diane Barnes says

Hi, I was so excited to receive your email about the “free” text and call day! I have a friend who loves to chat but because I am limited minutes, I could not chat with her as long as I would have liked – until I read that email. So, we talked a long time on the “free” day – BUT THOSE MINUTES WERE DEDUCTED FROM MY ALLOTED MINUTES!! Not happy Consumer Cellular – not at all

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Diane. While it may appear that those minutes were deducted from your plan, they are indeed free of charge. We’re happy to verify for you if you like, and we’re available at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting, and we’re glad you were able to have a nice chat with your friend!

  77. James Marsh, Jr. says

Thanks , but didn’t know about free day until my statement came
on Oct 20. No problem, very satisfied with Consumer Cellular Plan.

  78. Frances says

it takes such a long time for CC to answer my call.
What goes..there cannot be that many calls 8/pm!!!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We apologize for any inconvenience, Frances. We do receive a higher call volume in the evenings, which can make for longer hold times. Please know that we have recently hired more customer account advisors, and are continuing to hire more so that we can reduce wait times and assist our customers in a timely manner. If we can help you via email, we’re happy to do so at [email protected]. Of course, we’re happy to assist you over the phone as well at 888-345-5509. We appreciate your feedback, and thank you for posting. We hope you have a great day!

  79. sharon says

I didn’t get the notice til the 21st. It sounds like everyone enjoyed their free day, though.
I live in upstate NY and have called about poor reception. This is my first year with a cell phone. Last winter I got a bar or two indoors only occasionally, and none at all during this past summer. I had to go outside and walk around looking for a signal. Now that the leaves are starting to fall off the trees I am beginning to get an indoor signal, but even if I get a connection, it’s very broken up. Yes, I have tried turning the phone off and on. Doesn’t help. The bars come back and then go out before I can dial. I’ve called customer service about this problem, and they tried changing some settings, but it didn’t make any difference. I hope you all can fix this someday, because being outdoors in 90 degree weather or below freezing weather is hard. I appreciate your cordial customer service people.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We agree that standing outside to use your phone is quite inconvenient, Sharon. We would like to start by thanking you for your kind words regarding our customer service team, we really appreciate hearing that! I was able to take a look at your account, and you do have good coverage in your area. Indoor coverage issues can be a bit tricky, as your signal can be effected by the building materials and even the trees around you. I was able to verify that everything looks good on our end, so please let us know if these coverage issues persist. We’ll be happy to troubleshoot it further. Thank you again for posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  80. wanda long says

how about giving us a free month ???

  81. Tracy Deis says

Thank you for the free day. You are a wonderful company! I have had to call you a few times with questions and you have never made me feel inadequate or stupid. I love the fact that we pay such a low amount. I recommend you to everyone!

  82. Gerry Tischler says

I am very disappointed to hear that we could get free calls and texts on October 15th, as I missed it. I did not receive my bill with the notification until October 23rd. I may not even have made a call or sent a text message on the 15th.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re sorry you weren’t able to take advantage of the free day of service, Gerry. We did our best to notify our customers via their billing inserts and here on our site. Please rest assured, if you did have any usage on the 15th, it will be free of charge. Thank you for commenting!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Judy. We did our best to notify our customers via our newsletter and on our blog and other social media sites, so we apologize that you weren’t able to be notified sooner. We do appreciate your feedback. Thank you for taking the time to reach out today!

  85. Donna Blanton says

One question: Can you also add this organization which is now 1-year old with a TON of clients enrolled, it’s called: “AMAC – The Association of Mature American Citizens”? We’d love to see it in your line-up as well with AARP. Thank-you Consumer Cellular for the ‘Free’ day this month, it’s been a pleasure doing business with you all the way from the great state of TEXAS! Yee-HAW!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the recommendation, Donna. I’ve forwarded your suggestion to our management team, and thank you for taking the time to tell us about them. We’re glad you’re enjoying our service from the Lone Star State! Thank you for posting today, and we hope to have you as a customer for years to come!

  86. Michelle Palettta says

Thanks for the free day of service on October 7, 2015. However I just received your letter today: OCTOBER 31, 2015! Was this an April Fool’s Day gone astray? If so, ha-ha-ha and 20 years more of success and clients. !!!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re sorry that you didn’t know about our promotion, Michelle. We did our best to let our customers know ahead of time here on our blog, on our social media pages and on our site. Please know that any calls you made on the 15th were free of charge, so we hope you accept our apology. We hope you have a great day!

  89. john west says

We just received this notice regarding the Free Day in October enclosed in our November 2015 billing. Will it apply to next October? THank YOU.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, John. We offered that day to celebrate our anniversary, so it was for the 15th only. Luckily, any calls you made or messages you sent that day will be free of service to you! We appreciate you taking the time to comment, and we hope you have a great day!

  90. Katherine says

Congrats – but I just got the notice in my bill. What about us non- Smart-phone and non text users? We are loyal too.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We appreciate all of our loyal customers, Katherine. That’s why any calls you made that day from your feature phone were free of charge as well. Thank you for asking!

  91. Fred Hand says

Just curious, I have used the telephone very little but I see that I have used 39 minutes. Other than telephone use, how else do I use minutes?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s a great question, Fred. You will use minutes from your plan when you place a call or when someone calls you. You may also have used minutes while checking your voicemail messages, so we recommend checking them with a landline whenever possible. That way you save those plan minutes. We’re happy to explain any of your usage to you if you have questions, so feel free to call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting today and welcome to Consumer Cellular!

  92. Cynthia says

I have had many cell phone companies in the past but, you are Your cell phone company is the best I’ve ever had.

Keep up the good work, you have a cell phone customer for life!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you so much for telling us that, Cynthia! I’ve passed your kind words to everyone here, so please know we appreciate it!

  93. Cecil says

I just received the 20th Anniversary stuffer in my monthly bill (on 11/5/15) so I want to the 20anniversary web address. Interesting to find that you are giving a free day of service more than 2 weeks PRIOR to this announcement. Kind of defeats the purpose.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We apologize for any confusion, Cecil. In addition to the mention in your invoice, we did our best to notify customers of the Free Day of Service in our newsletter, here on our blog and in other channels. We’re sorry that we weren’t able to let you know sooner, but please know that any calls or texts you made that day were free of charge. It was just our way of celebrating our anniversary with you, our customers. Thank you for posting, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  95. mary says

I found out about this when an insert came with my bill received Nov. 7. Please let us know before the date.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Our apologies, Mary. We did our best to spread the word here on our blog and our website, but if you did make any calls or send any texts that day, they were free of charge. Just our way of saying thanks!
