You Asked, We Answered: How Do I Add a Line in My Account?

We hear from a lot of Consumer Cellular customers who want to take advantage of our $10 Shared Connections offer by adding a line to their existing account. I’m thrilled to tell you how—it’s a terrific way to make your Talk and Connect plans go a little further every month! It lets your family or friends share the minutes, texts, and data on your monthly cellphone plan simply by creating an additional line for them. And calls between lines on the same account are free, meaning you don’t use any of your minutes when you call each other—so you’ll definitely want to sign up the people you love to gab with the most!

Here’s how you add a line and start sharing connections:

  • To get started, login into My Account online, or by using the My Consumer Cellular app on your smartphone.
  • Scroll down to the Phones & Devices shown at the bottom of the screen. Here, you’ll see the devices that are currently active on your account.
  • Click on the grey “plus” sign icon to the right of the current phone (or phones) listed on your account. The “plus” sign will appear with the words “Share Your Minutes, Texts & Data, Add A Line” underneath it.
  • This will open a list of the available cellphones and devices you can select for the new line. Choose one by clicking “Add to Cart.”
  • You’ll be asked if you want to transfer an existing telephone number. Select “Yes” if so; or if you prefer, a new number can be assigned.
  • After assigning the phone number, you can choose protection plans or additional accessories for the phone. Once you’ve completed this, click “Continue to Next Step.”
  • Verify that all of the information shown is correct, and then click “Checkout.” Just like that, you’ve added a new line to your account!

    Re current survey on last call. Your representative was great. I got very guilty about taking up so much of her time and ended the call before my problem was solved. I am not of the cell phone and computer age and don’t understand half the language. I HATE THIS CELL PHONE. I spend to much time trying to figure out its operation. I have no idea what I’m doing. I am seriously considering going to a phone and company that can give me help when I need it. It is ridiculous to have to go thru several levels to fix something. I have no complaints about the service itself but am looking for something much less complicated.

    I have two phones on my account-two separate numbers-one email. It was working fine until I “upgraded” to two new iPhones. The two different phone numbers are somehow paired so that when a call comes in to one phone, they both ring. Why this problem now when they worked before?

    I have 2 accounts on one line My husbands and mine. Problem is my son tried to text me on my phone and was declined 3 times. Then he just phoned me. Why would this happed?

      Hi Linda, the number of lines you have on your account will not affect your service, including data speeds or connectivity to the service.

      Hi Nancy, you can add a new line by calling us at 888-345-5509. To use a tablet, it’ll need to be unlocked and GSM-compatible, but we cannot guarantee compatibility.

    To add a new line, do I have to buy a new phone for the 2nd line or can my daughter use her existing phone?

      Hi Holly, she can use an existing phone if it is unlocked, GSM-compatible, and VoLTE-capable. You don’t have to buy a new phone, you would just need to order a free SIM card.

    I am trying to add a line and keep the existing phone number for the newly added line. Your guide says: “After assigning the phone number…” However, I never get to “assign” the phone number; once it’s in the cart the only option is to “review order” and then “complete order”. Never are you give a chance to specify the to-be-ported-in number. What gives?

    This seems too difficult for me to do unassisted

    we are both AARP members

    Please advise

    My primary concern is during the process I will make a mistake or get lost in the process and I will be unable to finish or cancel a mistake
