Apps of the Month – October Edition

This month we’re featuring what we consider to be two practical yet fun-to-use smartphone apps: Pulse News and Evernote. Continue reading and find out why they are two of the most popular apps available to Android or iPhone users.

Pulse News: Android link. iPhone link.

More people are getting their news from the Internet than from newspapers — according to a study by the Pew Project for Excellence in Journalism. So if you’re looking for your news online, it only stands to reason that you’ll want the best Android or iPhone newsreader app.

And we found it. We know you’ll love Pulse News, a gorgeous application that makes reading news fun and engaging. Pulse lets you choose and share the stories you care about, from thousands of top news sources, your favorite blogs and social networks. You no longer have to search for your news. Instead, Pulse delivers the latest news from all your favorite blogs, magazines and newspapers to one seamless place—your smartphone—for FREE. This app is exciting to use, quick to read and ready to share.

Just tap on an article and you’ll see a clean and elegant view of the news story. You can save stories for reading later or sync them with other apps. Want to share a story via Facebook, Twitter and email? It’s as easy as two taps.

Here’s what Pulse users are saying about it: “The user interface is perfect and I would not change a thing”; “I’ve tried them all, and this one still leads the pack”; “By far my favorite and most frequently used app.”  No wonder Pulse is the most downloaded news app ever.

Evernote: Android link. iPhone link.

Tired of forgetting things you’re supposed to do or people you said you’d meet? Still think forget-me-not is just a flower? Evernote is a FREE smartphone app that serves as a virtual extension of your brain and helps you remember everything important. Evernote enables you to take notes, capture photos, create to-do lists, record voice reminders—all while making these notes completely searchable, whether you are at home, at work, or on the go.

Here are just a few of the tasks Evernote can make easier. You can use it to plan a trip and keep track of travel plans, plane tickets and passports. You can organize and save recipes and search by ingredients later. Use it to create a grocery list or task list and check things off as you go. Keep track of products and prices for comparison shopping purposes. And keep your finances in order by saving receipts, bills and contracts. You can even take snapshots of restaurant menus, business cards and labels, reducing clutter in your life. Or capture ideas and inspiration on the go.

Download Evernote and find out why it’s a New York Times “Top 10 Must-Have App,” as well as a winner of several awards, including Mashable Awards and the Webbys.

That’s it for our October apps. Let us know if you’re using a smartphone app you think our other customers would enjoy. Enjoy your Halloween and don’t forget to watch out for those goblins and witches later in the month. And, as always, may the Apps be with you!

what does it cost to upgrade to a smart phone? If I return the one that I have for exchange for a smartphone?

    • Tina at Consumer Cellular says

Stuart – The cost to upgrade will depend on which phone you go with. I am unable to see your account to verify if your current phone is eligible to return. Please call us at 1-800-686-4460 and we can go over all your options.

If I use whats app to chat with my friends, will it cost my data time? How about checking my email?

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Gina. Thanks for the question. Many smartphone apps use data however, I would recommend contacting the developers of the App you're referring to find out if their app uses data on your cell phone plan. Thank you.
