Affordable, portable Wi-Fi wherever you go — with the ZTE Mobile HotSpot.

At Consumer Cellular, the gift of freedom is what we most enjoy offering you. And, as you know, having greater mobility and flexibility is especially convenient when you’re away from home. We’re excited to offer a new lightweight, compact portable internet hotspot that may be your best new travel companion.

The ZTE Mobile Hotspot uses a cellular signal to create a powerful, 4G LTE wireless internet network for up to 10 devices. It’s super easy and quick to set up. Switch it on wherever you have cellular service, and you can connect to the internet with fast LTE speed. If you’re using one device to connect to the Hotspot, its battery will give you up 14 hours. Or you’ll get about 8 hours when using multiple devices simultaneously.

This device isn’t meant to replace your primary internet service. Instead, you can use the Hotspot as an economical wireless internet option when you’re out and about. Easily tap into its wireless network with your tablet or laptop, then surf the web to your heart’s content. The Hotspot is added to your existing data plan, and will share the data just like other phones on your account.

How can you get one? Just call us! Or order one from our website for $80 and only $10 each month for the data service, just like adding a phone to your account. Be sure though you have one of our Connect plans to get started.

So gone are the days when all you could do was hope for a strong Wi-Fi connection away from home. And now, you can also connect in places you’d never imagine. Maybe while relaxing in a park, waiting for the mechanic, in between flights at the airport, waiting on a train, and so on…With the ZTE Mobile HotSpot, it’s up to you!

  1. Tim Froelich says

Do I need to get phone service to get two of these?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Tim. You will need to have a phone line with us to use the HotSpot so that you can have a data plan to use. It’s just $10 a month to add the HotSpot to your cellphone plan, and you can share the data with your phones. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509 if we can get one on the way to you, or if you have any questions we can answer. Thank you for taking the time to post!

      • Becky Johnson says

What if the internet service in my area isn’t very good. Could I use the hotspot in its place?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Becky! Your hotspot will work wherever you have an LTE cellular connection, so it could be a better fit than your local internet service. Just be mindful that your hotspot may use a lot of data in a short amount of time, so it’s best to use Wi-Fi if that is an option. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have about the hotspot at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to post today!

I bought an unlocked Samsung Galaxy 6 from Walmart in August 2016 & inserted the sim card I got from Consumer Cellular. Ported my phone number from my old phone; everything was working fine. However, I do not have wi-fi “on-the-go” on the Galaxy. I have internet service provider at home (Cox) and can connect the Galaxy at home or at wi-fi spots if they have free wi-fi & I have the password. My pc, printer, DVD player and speaker are all connected to my home wi-fi through Cox. Do I have to buy the ZTE Mobile Hotspot for my phone, or is there a monthly plan to upgrade to that would include “on-the-go”? My current CC plan is 500 mb & 5000 texts. Thanks, Corky

          • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Corky! I took a look at your account, and it looks like our records show you are still using a flip phone. We’re happy to help you adjust some settings on your smartphone to allow you to access the internet on the go. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we will get that taken care of in no time at all. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we look forward to talking with you soon!

      • O says

So Ashely what is the point of hotspot if may run your data up? I wanna use it unlimited

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s a great question. Many of our customers like using the hotspot when they are away from home and want a guaranteed secure connection. It’s ideal if you’re camping, or traveling with a tablet or laptop that needs access to the web. We don’t recommend using it as a sole source of internet access. If you’d like to learn more about it, we’re happy to answer any questions you may have. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting, and we hope you have a lovely day!

        • Evelyn says

I would talk/ text and data plan also tablet and a hot spot: do you have post paid plans or home phone plans, so I can get calls from an inmate relative?

          • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Evelyn. I appreciate the interest. We are a post-paid service provider, so we bill in arrears and you will receive a bill each month. Collect calls are not able to be accepted on our service, in addition to any calls that would pass along a charge to your Consumer Cellular bill. If the inmate is using a calling card or something similar instead, then you should be able to receive the call.

      • Tyler says

Is this mobile wifi or does it use my cell phone plans data?

  2. Nail Elibiary says

    Send me the charge/price/procedures.
Does it depend on the phone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Nail. The HotSpot creates a Wi-Fi network using a cellphone signal, so you would connect to it with a tablet or laptop just like any other Wi-Fi network. You can view more information about the price and features here on our website. And of course, we’re happy to answer any questions you may have at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post!

      • Adrienne P says

We currently have your service and love it! We were planning on buying a phone that runs on 4g LTE. Do you guys support phones with 4g LTE?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We do support 4G LTE, Adrienne! In fact, we even have some device in our lineup, like the affordable Moto E LTE and Moto G LTE, as well as our iPhone options as well that use 4G LTE speeds. If we can help you choose a phone or answer any questions about using LTE, just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we’ll be happy to answer them for you. Thank you for posting!

          • Granny says

So if you use hotspot from a consumer Cellular phone will the phone bill go up or stay the same?

          • There is no additional charge to activate or use the hotspot feature in your phone; however, your data consumption will increase so you may need to take that into consideration when choosing a data plan. I hope this answers your questions, feel free to give us a call if we can help you further and have a great day!

  3. Doug says

Wow. I wrote about 5 weeks ago (November 02, 2015) how it would be great if CC had internet service, and now, here it is! You all are fast workers or else I must be psychic!

I did have a few questions about it please:
    1) can it be used to replace house internet service? Why or why not?
    2) How fast is the service?
    3) is it secure from others tapping into it when using it at an airport, etc?
    4) could this be used on an airplane when they say you can turn on your cell phone?

    Thank you.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We aim to please, Doug! I’m happy to answer your questions. The HotSpot may not be the best option to use for home internet service as our largest plan provides 4GB of data. If you are a minimal user, you may be able to have the HotSpot as your only option. It’s 4G LTE internet so you would have fast download speeds, and someone requires a password to use it. The password is provided by the device itself so others can’t use it without you providing that to them. You would want to treat the HotSpot like a cellphone on an airplane, so please follow your pilot’s instructions. If we can answer any other questions about the HotSpot, just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we’ll be ready to assist you. Thank you for posting!

  4. Shiraz says

Is the device locked ? If I happen to travel overseas, can I take it with me and use it with another carrier in the country of my travel ?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Shiraz. The device is locked and is designed for use on US cellular towers only, so it probably won’t be a good fit for international travel. If you have any other questions we can answer, just let us know at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post!

      • Thomas Wood says

I am a part time rver, going camping once a month and use the available wifi at the rv park. What I need is to boost the wifi so I can stream netflex. Will your device do this?

        • Hi Thomas, thanks for your question! The Hotspot actually uses the data plan to provide an internet connection for a device. You would want to make sure that you have a good connection to your service to have the feature work for that device properly.

  5. Shirley Ann Sitzlar says

I still have the phone could I still use it if I decided to try again?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Shirley. You can use your Moto G with our service at any time, but you may need a new SIM card if you re-open your account. We can help you with that at 888-345-5509 when you’re ready. Thank you for asking, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  6. Richard says

When I was with Verizon I could tether my Ipad tablet to my Samsung Galaxy phone. Can this be done with my new Motorola Moto G Gen 3 ?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Yes, you can! Our Moto G LTE does have the ability to tether and act as a hotspot. We just need to adjust some settings on your account before you get started. If you can give us a call at 888-345-5509 when you get a chance, we’re happy to take care of that for you. Thank you for commenting, Richard, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  7. John says

What network does the device use? In the mountainous West where I travel there are many areas that certain carriers do not serve….absolutely no signal. AT&T does pretty well (not perfect), T-Mobile and Sprint have too many gaps right where I need coverage. What network(s) does this device use?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, John. We use the networks of the largest cellular providers in the United States, so we can take a look at the coverage in your area and make sure your HotSpot connects to the best option. You can check out the coverage in your area here using our map. And as always, we’re happy to take a look at common places you visit if you give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to comment today!

      • Cassandra says

I have an alarm system and need internet to be connected in order for my alarm system to be activated. Will I have the ability with your internet service. I truly hope you can help me.

        • Hi Cassandra, that’s a great question! Before you think about using our hotspot feature for your home internet, keep in mind that we do not offer Unlimited Data so if you do have a WiFi connection, I’d keep that active. The hotspot feature can connect to different devices, but we could not guarantee that all devices will be compatible with our service.

  8. Robert Schmitz says

Finally!! We’ve been customers for a long time and I’ve been wanting to tether my devices to my phone or hotspot device for some time. I recently found as app that would work with my phone, but that might only handle one device at a time. I think this would be better than running thru an app.

  9. Ken Smith says

YEAH!!!!!!! Been waiting for this since we became otherwise contented Consumer Cellular customers! The grandkids will be happier now when the travel with Papa and Mema!!

  10. Leota Anderson says

Why can’t I use the hot spot as my primary Internet?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Leota. It really depends on how much you use the internet. The HotSpot would not be a good fit for any streaming services or large downloads, so if you need to be able to do that, regular home-based internet may serve you better. Our HotSpot is meant to be used when you’re away from home and don’t have a reliable Wi-Fi source. If you have any other questions about this or about using data, we can answer them for you at 888-345-5509. Thank you for commenting!

  11. Karen King says

I’m waiting for Consumer Cellular to offer affordable Internet service! We are rural and the only option is satellite, which is expensive and very limited. Maybe someday!

  12. Marilyn says

I do not have an internet service, I have been using a Verizon Hotspot for my WiFi, can your hotspot be used for my WiFi at home also. If I go over the 4 mg, how much is the charge for more mg?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Marilyn. Our maximum plan is 4GB per month, but with our helpful Usage Alerts, we’ll let you know if you’re about to exceed your plan. We can always assist you with plan recommendations as well, so if you’re interested, please give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we can talk about your current usage and which plan may be the best fit. Thank you for commenting, and we look forward to speaking with you!

  13. Fred Woolman says

Consumer Cellular does not support a free Cellular Data Network … right? It sounds like the ZTE Mobile HotSpot will provide that function. Will it enable me to use the MAPS app on my iPhone? Because right now I can’t use the GPS type function for trips it provides because I can’t connect to the Internet.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Fred. The ZTE Mobile HotSpot uses cellular data to create a local Wi-Fi network for tablets or laptops. You could add it to your current plan, then share the data with your phone. As it needs to connect to cellular towers, it wouldn’t work in places where you are without reception. I took a look at your account, and I see you are using an iPhone. If you’re having issues connecting to the internet, we’re happy to troubleshoot that for you. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we can help you. In the meantime, please try turning your phone off, then back on again. That may solve the problem. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

    • Rick says

When I’m around the house I leave my data on, but when I leave I turn it off. Question ? do u have to have the data on to be able to use it??

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Rick. If you’ve turned data off on your phone, it won’t be able to connect to the cellular towers until you turn it back on. It’a great habit to keep data turned off when you’re at home and Wi-Fi is available, but be sure to turn it back when you’re away from a Wi-Fi source so you can go online if you need to. If we can answer any questions for you about your phone or about using data, feel free to call us at 888-345-5509. We’ll be happy to assist you. Thank you again for commenting!

      • Rick says

When you use the Data for your hotspot , when away from WiFi. how much data do you get for the $10.00 . If you need more does it cost more???

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Rick. The HotSpot is added to your current data plan for just $10 per month. You’ll share data with the other devices on your account. As our plans are flexible, you can increase your plan when you need to and lower it when you aren’t using it as much. That way, you only pay for the data you need. You can see our text and data plans here to see which might work best for your needs. And of course, if you have any questions, we’re here for you at 888-345-5509. Thank you for commenting today!

  14. Brenda says

So glad that you now have this available. Just a couple of questions:
can it be used internationally? If not, when?
If I buy the hotspot device, will I be charged $10 monthly even on months when I don’t use it? I like that fact that I can reduce my plan when I don”t use the phone minutes or data.
It will be charged on the data use portion of my service/bill, right?
Is there a refund if I am not pleased with the service from the device? Thanks for your time.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I’m happy to answer your questions, Brenda. Our service is designed to be used within the United States, so while your HotSpot may work overseas, you may be subject to costly roaming fees. We recommend using another Wi-Fi source for that type of trip. The HotSpot is an additional $10 per month, but it shares your current data plan. Like your phone, you can change plans whenever you need. And as with our phones, you do have the 30 day Risk-Free Guarantee to try it out. That way you can get a sense of how well it will work for you. If you have any other questions or would like to order one, just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we will be happy to assist you. Thank you for taking the time to ask, and we hope you have a great day!

  15. Phil Dehnert says

Wow! The ZTE Mobile Hotspot was just announced on Dec.8 and it is already “out of stock” on Dec.10! I would love to add this product to the 4 cell phones currently on our CC account. I’m not sure I understand all that this unit can do, but my current ISP just went belly up and I need Internet service very soon. Can I get on a waiting list? Will it soon go back into stock again? I’m ready. Phil~

  16. Jerry St. John says

I would mainly like to know what the total costs are?? For instance my phone service now the cost is $23 a month but by the time you add taxes and cost for long distance I’m up to $40 or more a month. And that’s before I make any additional long distance calls which is any where in Washington. I hardly ever make any calls so need it mainly for family and work. So what is the total cost I will be paying per month with taxes and the charge for having long distance. I’m just trying to get a ballpark figure. I’m fed up with my land line and being ripped off by CenturyLink. I shouldn’t have to pay $45 per month and not even have made so much as one phone call. I know your add keeps saying you have plans as low as $10 dollars a month, but you don’t mention taxes and such. I would very much like to convert to your phone service but would need to know just what I’d be paying per month. Let me know, thank you. I’m an AARP member.

    Jerry St. John

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Jerry! Our plans are designed to be simple and easy to use. First, you can choose one of our talk plans here. If you want to add text messaging and data, you would choose that here in addition. For each additional phone or device (like the ZTE Mobile HotSpot), you’ll add $10 to your monthly bill. Best of all, all phones and devices on the same plan share minutes, texts and data. Taxes are additional, and can vary depending on your area. We recommend checking with your local government to get an estimate. If you give us a call at 888-345-5509, we can talk to you about your current usage and needs and recommend a plan for you. And as an AARP member, you’ll get a 5% discount on usage each month! We’re ready to help you get started! Thank you for posting today, and we look forward to talking with you!

  17. JOEY d says

I love this but I called c. Cellular and was told my Motorola moto g will not work with the hot spot. I would have to buy a new phone, example moto e? I just bought the moto g a few months ago

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Joey. I was able to take a look at your account, and I think I see the source of confusion. Your Moto G will not work as a HotSpot, meaning that you can’t create a local Wi-Fi network with your phone to connect a laptop or tablet to. The ZTE Mobile HotSpot can use a cellular signal to create a Wi-Fi network for up to ten devices. It’s a great option when you are traveling or away from home and want to connect to the internet with something other than your phone. We’re happy to get one on the way to you if you like, just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we’ll be happy to do so. Thank you again for commenting today!

      • JOEY d says

I called cust service and they explained, the hot spot can be used independently from the phone so I bought it, thank you so much 🙂

      • JOEY d says

And I got a 20 dollar holiday credit because the hotspot adds a new line..so the unit cost me only 60 dollars..woo hoo!

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s great to hear, Joey! We’re sure you’ll love your new HotSpot, and we’re so glad you were able to take advantage of our Holiday Promotion. Thank you for letting us know!

  18. Wendy says

I purchased a Samsung Exhilarate when I opened my CC account a few years ago. Honestly, I have not been happy with the performance of this phone and the Wi-Fi at all. The signal strength is weak in many locations and it drops calls. Performance is poor especially in buildings and at best is 2 bars. Seldom do I get up to 4 bars. I live in Seattle which is one of the tech hotbeds in the country…not in a rural area. Available connections are not the issue…it’s the phone. The Wi-Fi “might” connect in a public hot spot, but I avoid for security reasons. If and when I can connect Wi-Fi the speed of the connection is painfully slow. My home Wi-Fi service is fantastic for PCs and tablets plus other people can connect their phones just fine–except mine.

I am considering a new phone at this point and I need a hot spot when I am on the road. I understand there is a 30-day trial which is great. Which newer Android phone works the best with this hot spot device?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re sorry to hear that your phone hasn’t been working well for you, Wendy! If you are looking for a new Android phone, we have many options to meet your needs here on our site. Each of them will connect to a Wi-Fi network easily, so you’ll be able to take advantage of your home network. The ZTE Mobile HotSpot is meant to be used with a tablet or laptop that doesn’t have a built-in cellular connection, so you wouldn’t need your phone to connect the the HotSpot. If you like, we can talk with you over the phone at 888-345-5509 and ask you some questions to help make a phone recommendation. And each of our devices does have our 30-day Risk-Free Guarantee so you can see if it is a good fit. Thank you for posting, and we look forward to talking to you!

  19. Michael says

I have a Samsons Galaxy, can I put it’s sim card (with a little trimming into a Appl 5s

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Michael. We don’t recommend you trim your SIM card. If you have one of our all-in-one SIM cards, you can use the smallest option. Otherwise, we can send you a new SIM card to use with your new iPhone to make the transition go smoothly. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we can get that taken care of for you. We appreciate you taking the time to comment!

  20. Mindy says

Hi my name is Mindy. I got a SIM card for my tMobile phone and tried doing picture messages &people try to send me picture messages.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We can help you with that, Mindy. Sometimes there are additional message settings we need to send to your phone when using one of our SIM cards. If you give us a call at 888-345-5509, we can troubleshoot that for you and get the messaging issue resolved. Thank you for letting us know!

  21. Mindy says

Does that cost extra money to add to my account

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Mindy. You can add the ZTE Mobile HotSpot to your plan for just $10 per month and it will share your data plan along with the phones on your account. It’s that easy! If you have any other questions or if you are interested in getting a HotSpot, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting today!

  22. patty sorden says

Could this mobile hotspot be used to allow customers to have internet service in our business? Does it use data all the time it is plugged in? We are open 6 hrs a day.
    thanks

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Patty. The hotspot will use data when devices connect to it and it is turned on. It may not be the best fit for your business if you anticipate heavy usage, as our largest data plan is 4GB. If you only need to provide internet access from time to time, it may work well for you. We’re happy to talk with you about your anticipated usage and recommend a plan. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we’ll find the best fit. We appreciate you taking the time to comment, and we hope you have a great day!

    • Harold Johnson says

When I was with AT&T I could tether my I Pad mini with my I Phone 5 C for a personal hot spot. Can I do this with Consumer Celluar?

      • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Harold! If you have a smartphone that has access to LTE data, you may be able to do this. We just need to send some updates to your device so this will work for you, so please give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we will be happy to take care of that for you! We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us!

  23. Ralph Haglund says

Haven’t been on blog lately so this might be to late for Wendy +Dec 12) but good advice. We had 8 phones on my line & needed more. So we have 2 accounts. Occasionally we do have problems, several times the one Wendy had but a call to CC took care of it. You folks are the GREATEST!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Ralph! We’re glad to hear you’ve had such a positive experience, and we really appreciate you as a customer!

  24. Robert Woodward says

Does the ZTE Hotspot dormant after a certain time if not used for several minutes or hours?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Robert. The Hotspot can be on standby for a few minutes or so, but we recommend turning it off if you don’t need it for long periods of time. That way you won’t use any data unintentionally and the battery will be ready for the next time you need it. If we can answer any other questions you may have about the Hotspot, we’re happy to assist you at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to post!

  25. Phil Dehnert says

I agree with those folks that have been asking for Consumer Cellular to think about offering internet service for its customers. The “Internet Service Providers” (ISP’s) that are out there right now are killing us with the ever increasing rates and poor service. Since CC is already into cellular and WiFi service, you should be thinking about stepping into the gap here and providing trustworthy and inexpensive Internet service. Your recent move to add the “ZTE Mobile Hotspot” is certainly a small step in the right direction! But it will only take the customer “half way there”. We would like to challenge your staff to meet and discuss the possibility of increasing your 4GB maximum data usage and offering some kind of ISP service to your customers. Please send this request to the appropriate CC staff people. Your customers would really appreciate you looking into moving in that direction. Thanks for the great phone service you provide us. Thanks for listening about the ISP issue. :o)

  26. Marje says

Am I able to buy the Hot Spot now and the WIFI line later

    • Dominic at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for the question, Marje. The Hotspot device is available to you now, if you’re interested in it. You can order one online via this website, or feel free to call us at 888-345-5509 and we’ll be more than happy to assist you with your order. If you’re interested in purchasing the device now, and not activating it until later, that can be done as well. However, I’d recommend waiting to purchase the device until you’re ready to activate it. Please let me know if I misunderstood your question, or if you need any additional assistance. Thank you!

  27. Jennie says

I have been on hold for 30 minutes. I have questions about usage charges that incorrect. How do I get a hold of someone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re sorry for the long hold time, Jennie. We are working to train new employees so that this can be avoided in the future. I took a look at your account, and I’m glad to see that we were able to fix the problem and issue you a credit. If we can assist you with anything else at this time, please let us know at 888-345-5509. We’ll be happy to assist you! Thank you for your patience, and for taking the time to let us know about the issue. We hope you have a wonderful day!

If your cellphone already has 4G LTE and Hot Spot capability , what is the advantage of a ZTE Mobile Hot Spot? No offense, but it seems like a waste of money. I have used my iPhone’s mobile hot spot capability on Consumer Cellular and it works great for me. On the other hand, if you charged a flat unlimited data rate for the ZTE Mobile Hot Spot, I might be interested.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for taking the time to comment, Keith. While some of our customers can use their smartphones as a hotspot, many of our customers prefer a feature phone. Our Mobile Hotspot allows all of our customers to connect multiple devices to the internet wherever they are. We appreciate your feedback, and I’ve passed it on to our management team for review. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  29. Tim says

We travel to Florida for four months in the winter, can I use it for 4 months a year ? Will I be able to add it to my account , and remove it as needed thanks Tim

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Tim. If you don’t need the Mobile Hotspot, you can always remove it from your account as needed. If we can help you get one on the way to you, please call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you for commenting today!

  30. Ron says

I’m on the road south in our RV and am trying to buy the CC ZTE Mobile Hotspot. So far, I’ve gone to three large Target stores and one large Sears outlet. None of them have seen or stocked the devices. Where can I get one in Washington or Oregon? Thanks — Ron

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re happy to help you, Ron. At this time, our ZTE Mobile Hotspot is not available at our retail locations. You can order one online here, or we can work with you over the phone at 888-345-5509 and ship one to you that way. Whichever option works best for you! Thank you for reaching out to us today, and we’re sure that you’ll enjoy your new Hotspot!

  31. Susie says

Can I use the ZTE Mobile Hotspot on my desktop computer?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Absolutely, Susie. As long as your desktop computer can connect to a wireless network, you can connect to the ZTE Hotspot just like any other type of Wi-Fi. That’s why it is so convenient, whether you’re at home or on the go. If we can answer any questions about the Hotspot, just let us know at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to comment today!

  32. Zupancich, Tom says

So what does the 10.00 a month give you. What is the rate for data and how much do you get.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Tom. It’s just $10 to add the ZTE Mobile Hotspot to your monthly plan, and it will share your current data plan with any other phones on your plan. With our flexible plans, you can always increase your text and data plan if you need to use the hotspot more one month, then move it back down again when you don’t need it as often. It is an affordable way to have internet on the go. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have at 888-345-5509, or you can watch a video tour of the hotspot here. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

      • Tom Zupancich says

Yes Yes Yes, Wouldn’t it be great if we would have Consumer Cellular have this kind of internet service. They do so well with phone service and the best customer help. I add my name to Phil’s request.

  33. Susan says

Will Consumer Cellular ever provide home internet service?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Susan. At this point in time, we are pretty happy serving our wireless customers, and looking for ways we can assist the 50+ market further. If we add any additional services in the future, we’ll be sure to let our customers know. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

  34. Joe says

If I am out in my car and my consumer cellular cellular phone is not in the car with me, Can I use a Wifi type iPad to connect wirelessly to the hot spot?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

You sure can, Joe! Just make sure you have the Hot-Spot nearby for the best results. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have about the Hot-Spot, so give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we will be happy to answer them. Thank you for posting today!

  35. Dennis says

What is the range in feet of the ZTE Hotspot? Will it transmit through a wall or two? What security features to protect against hackers and disallow unwanted users? Thanks, We have been liking your phone service for four years and are thinking about adding the Hotspot as well as the in home unit to replace our landline.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking about the Hotspot, Dennis. The range of the hotspot will depend on the wireless coverage inside your house, but in most cases it is about 40 feet. You should be able to use it across multiple rooms in your home. It comes equipped with a unique password, but you also have the ability to change and reset it as often as you like. If you would like to add one to your plan or if you have any other questions, we’re happy to assist you at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you’ll be enjoying the freedom of internet wherever you go soon!

  36. Victor Scopel says

As it will soon be time to replace my Samsung Exhilarate, could you tell me which android phones will tether to my data connection?….I’ll only be using one laptop occasionally and cant justify lugging around much more gear. Thanks.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Victor. In general, most of our Android devices that are LTE capable can be used to tether your computer. You can take a look at our Android device lineup here. An iPhone is another great option as well, and we have some of our best pricing ever available now. We’re happy to talk with you about your needs and make a recommendation. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we can assist you in no time at all. Thank you again for posting, and be sure to let us know which phone you choose!

  37. Angie says

I recently started working at a Ranch and am using the data on my phone which is making my monthly bill go way up…. Would this device help with that issue at all?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Angie. Our hotspot also uses cellular data, so this won’t likely resolve the issue you are experiencing with your monthly invoice. I would recommend connecting to a Wi-Fi network at home or one similar to a store or cafe. This will help you conserve data from your plan. We’re happy to walk you through some settings that may minimize your data usage if you like. Please give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we can assist you with that at your convenience. Thank you for taking the time to post today!

  38. Kay-Ellen says

Will the ZTE Mobile Hotspot work in the car while traveling (vehicle moving) ? When we are traveling, I, as the passenger, would like to be able to access the internet to look up info and near by locations.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s a great question, Kay-Ellen! The ZTE Mobile Hotspot will access the internet through cellular data, so as long as you have cellular service, you can use it. Even if you’re moving in a car! If you’re ready to order one, we’re happy to help you at 888-345-5509, or you can get on our website here as well. Thank you for posting, and happy travels!

  39. Diane Konshak says

Can the portable wifi be purchased for specific months (we travel in spring and fall) without paying for the full year?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Diane! You can always remove a line of service from your account if you like. That way, you can keep the device, and just call us to reactivate it when you begin traveling again. Just a reminder, it’s only an additional $10 per month to keep the hotspot on your plan, so it is quite affordable. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

  40. Kevin MacManus says

What are the power requirements for this thing????

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for reaching out to us, Kevin. The ZTE Mobile Hotspot has a charger that can be used with any standard wall outlet. If you have any other questions about this device, we’re happy to answer them at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting today!

  41. Anne says

Will this mobile hot spot work in Italy for vacation? Or do I need a purchase a special European one for over there?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Anne. This mobile hot spot uses our cellular service, which is only available inside the United States, so it wouldn’t be a good fit for your vacation. If you’re still interested in using one stateside, we’re happy to tell you more about it at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting, and we hope you have a wonderful trip!

  42. BILLY OR BETTY HARSEY says

Hi, can this hot spot be used with the doro phone? thanks billy

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Billy. Our mobile hotspot can be used with up to 10 different devices. However, if you are using the Doro 824, your device is already able to connect to the internet. You can learn more about adding a mobile hotspot to you plan here on our website. And as always, if you have any questions, we are happy to answer them over the phone at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  43. Your data coverage map does not work for me. Where can I go to see a data coverage map? Is the LTE coverage?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking! You can view our coverage map here on our website. It will also detail the areas near you in which LTE coverage is available. If you like, we can also assist you over the phone, and take a look at areas you visit frequently to provide you with more information. We appreciate you posting today!

  44. Becky Paladino says

If I don’t have WIFI at home will the hot spot provide me with WIFI while at home?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Becky. Our Hotspot is perfect for accessing the internet when you’re away from home or on-the-go, but we wouldn’t recommend this as your primary internet source. We’re happy to speak with you about your Wi-Fi needs and see if this device would be a good fit for you. Just call us at 888-345-5509 at your convenience. Thanks for taking the time to post, and we hope to speak with you soon!

  45. Jeff says

If I upgrade my phone to an LTE phone and tether other devices, how many devices can be tethered at one time?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Jeff! It really would depend on the type of phone you chose. If you need to tether multiple devices at once, our wireless hotspot may be a better fit. We’re happy to talk with you about your needs and recommend a device for you at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us, and we look forward to speaking with you!

  46. susan says

Will it work in the blue ride mountains in Georgia?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Susan! We offer nationwide coverage on two of the largest cellular networks. If you have a question about coverage in your area, you can search by ZIP code with our Coverage Map here. Also, if you travel frequently and are curious about other areas, we can take a look and give you an idea of what type of coverage to expect. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509 at your convenience. We appreciate you taking the time to learn more about our service, and we hope you have a lovely day!

  47. Doug says

What cell service is used with hotspot and cell line with consumer cellular?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Doug. We offer service on two of the nation’s largest cellular networks. We’ll make sure you get the best coverage, whether you’re using your cellular phone or a hotspot. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us today, and we hope to speak with you soon!

  48. Steven mitchell says

Taking a cross country trip will this help me get WiFi in my car?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Steven! This device will allow you to connect multiple devices to a private Wi-Fi network, which may be very convenient if you’re traveling away from home. The Mobile Hotspot is perfect for checking email or the news no matter where you are. If you’re interested in learning more, we’re happy to assist you at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  49. Scott Christ says

I’ve never really worked with hot spots before. My first question is will the ZTE hotspot sold here work with with apple products, and due to to my naiveness, would it have the the capability to boost an older version ofrouter is located in the the front tv, I guess purpose of the router would be for the same. Any advice would be great!!!!!!!!!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Scott. First, the ZTE Mobile Hotspot will create a Wi-Fi network that can be used by a variety of devices. If you have a device that can connect to Wi-Fi, it should work with the Hotspot. Second, this would create a completely different network than the router you are currently using. For example, if you have difficulty getting a Wi-Fi signal in one part of the house, the Hotspot could be placed there so that you have internet access. Do keep in mind that the Hotspot would use data from your plan, so we wouldn’t recommend that you use it as your primary form of internet access. If we can answer any other questions you may have, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to learn more about this product, and we hope you have a great day!

  50. JKH says

We are trying to connect a Consumer Cellular Hotspot to an ipad. We keep getting a blank screen with a “Login” at the top. What login is it asking for? Do we have to use our phone instead of the ipad, since the ipad isn’t on our CC plan?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting! You’ll find the Login and Password information for the Hotspot by removing the back of the device. You’ll see a sticker placed above the battery with that information. To connect, search for available Wi-Fi networks on your iPad, and look for the one labeled “CC Network”. Then use the information on the sticker to login. You can learn more in our tour video here. And of course, we’re here to help you with any questions at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

  51. Mike says

Can I use this in ireland.. Will be there for 10 days

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Mike. I was able to take a look at your account, and I see that Jenna, our account advisor, was able to answer your questions about using device internationally. If we can be of any further help, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you again for reaching out to us, and we hope you have a lovely day!

  52. Faye Myers says

Thanks Consumer Cellular for giving your customers extra plan time without extra charges

  53. Nancy Biedrzycki says

Is the $10 a month for unlimited data?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Nancy! We don’t offer a $10 plan at this time, but it is just $15 per month to add a hotspot to your plan. We’re happy to tell you more at 888-345-5509, so please give us a call at your convenience. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we hope you have a lovely day!

  54. Cheryl says

I travel to WV in the summer and I have AT&T now, considering switching to CC. I am interested in using your Hot Spot on either my IPhone SE or my IPad(needs WIFI) to watch some TV shows as there is no cable in the home. I am usually only there 7 days. Only in the evening hours. If I took your 5GB plan do you think I would exceed my plan data for watching TV 4-5hrs nightly?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

We appreciate your interest, Cheryl. The amount of data used will depend on the quality of what you’re watching. This can cause the usage for a 5-hour period to range between approximately 600MB to 1.5GB. If the video quality is standard, rather than HD, the 5GB plan may cover the usage incurred from watching TV, but you may also want to consider the 10GB plan. Please also keep in mind that your plans can be changed at any time. If you will only be in WV for a short time out of the year, then you can have a lower plan at all other times when you’re not streaming videos.

  55. Joe Heyman says

How can I make my iPhone a Mobil hotspot? It was until I changed from Verizon to Consumer cellular.

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Joe, thank you for posting. To have the Mobile Hotspot feature enabled, you will need to call us at 888-345-5509 or chat with us here.

  56. Bill says

If my smartphone is capable of acting as a mobile hotspot and I will not need a ZTE Mobile Hotspot, will I still have to pay $15 to have the Mobile Hotspot feature enabled?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Bill! The $15 is for any additional line of service, so it would not apply if you’re using the hotspot feature on your smartphone. Thank you for asking!

  57. Jean Curry says

Yes I am interested in finding out about the WiFi service that Consumer Cellular have to offer!

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Jean, the ZTE Mobile Hotspot device is currently out of stock, but if you have a smartphone then you can use the built-in hotspot with it, which functions just the same. If you need help setting it up, please give us a call at 888-345-5509 or chat here.

  58. Mindy says

We camp and our campground doesn’t offer cable or wifi. My husband is a big Notre Dame fan so trying to find a way we can hook up our ROKU so he can watch his games on Saturdays, will this work for that?
We already use Consumer Cellular and have a plan azn with the max data.
    Thank you

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Mindy. The ZTE Mobile Hotspot is no longer in stock and we’re not sure when we may be getting more. However, I do see that your phones are compatible with the hotspot service, so you wouldn’t need a separate device and there’s no additional charge for this to be enabled. To get this set up, please give us a call at 888-345-5509 or chat with us here.

  59. Shona says

Hi I have a question. My friend gave me his ZTE mobile hotspot device thingy and just said I have to pay for it monthly. I have a at & t go phone that I pay $85 a month for that has little hotspot on it. How do I go about paying for the ZTE device to have that portable WiFi service cuz I need it lol

    • Hi Shona, thanks for your question. I would advise that the ZTE hotspot would need a data plan in order to create those portable spaces to connect your device to so we would need to have you set up service so that we can get a plan going for that device. You can give us a call at 80-686-4460 or go online to our website to get this started.

  60. Ellen says

I am thinking of switching to Consumer Cellular, but currently with Verizon, I use my phone as my hotspot. That is the only internet service we can have here in the rural area of northern WI.

Can I do the same thing with your company…that is use the hotspot or my phone as my sole source of internet?

    • Hi Ellen, excellent question, thanks for asking. If your phone has those capabilities then it should work with our hotspot feature. If you’re planning on using the phone you have now I’d recommend making sure that it’s unlocked from Verizon and GSM-compatible. Keep in mind that we can’t guarantee that all models will be compatible but we’ll do everything we can to see if we can get the phone working on our network.

  61. BillieJo says

We are current Consumer Cellular customers. I would like a hotspot, but I want to make sure that we can access the internet while we’re camping. The service there is horrible. Is there way to check service before we purchase the hotspot?

  62. Regina Abbott says

I have consumer cellular and internet at the place I live but the game I want to play on my tv won’t give me access. If I get the mobile hotspot will I be able to us it for my nintendo switch and also can I plug it in to charge while using it?

  63. charles bittner says

how do i get consumer celoulor internet

    • Hi Charles, thanks for your question. You would need to have access to a smartphone to access it, and you would also need to add a connect plan to your account as well. You can do so by giving us a call at 800-686-4460 or you can also chat with us at here for further assistance.

  64. Nannette boldn says

My hotspot zte will not work. Can I get a new battery or your send my a new one please do I can get back on my computer

    • Hi Nannette, thanks for your post. We don’t sell replacement batteries for our devices as it’s not something the manufacturer provides us with, and currently, we do not have the ZTE Mobile Hotspot as one of our devices. However, we can enable the hotspot feature for your phone that you can connect devices to. If you’d like to get that enabled, just give us a call at 888-548-6490 or you can also chat with one of our agents here for assistance.

  65. Yvonne Mciver-Taylor says

How do I go about getting a hotspot device. Every time I call I can never get anyone

    • Hi Yvonne, thank you for your interest. We don’t currently have a hotspot device available for our customers. However, you can enable the hotspot feature on a smartphone if you’d like. You can chat with of our agents for assistance with this here.

  66. Linda Boseman says

Will this work with my Consumer Cellular Samsung A10e?

    • Hi Linda, thanks for your question. We don’t actually have the ZTE mobile hotspot in stock anymore, but we can enable the hotspot feature on the Samsung A10e if you want to use it. Give us a call at 800-686-4460 or chat with us here for assistance with that.

  67. Linda Boseman says

When will Consumer Cellular go 5g?

    • Hi Linda, thanks for your question. We are currently in the process of phasing out 3G and heading towards getting 5G hooked up for our customers. We don’t have an exact date for this but keep an eye out on our pages, and your email, as this is what will be updated first.

      • L Peer says

Can I add WiFi to my current plan and use my phone as a hotspot?

        • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi L, if you already have a Connect plan then we can enable that for you. Please call our customer service team at 888-345-5509 or start a live chat here.

  68. Cindy Schackman says

I have a jet pack from Verizon and wondering if I can use this one and pay the 10.00 monthly charge

    • Hi Cindy, thanks for your post. The $10 fee listed in the article is our old additional line fee, the article is older and out of date for prices so if you wanted to add it, the cost would be $15 a month that would be added. If the device is unlocked, is GSM-compatible, and VoLTE capable, it may work on our network. We can’t guarantee compatibility for all devices, but we will do all we can to see if we can get it connected for you.

  69. steve kirby says

If I have your unlimited data plan, why can’t I use this device continuously in place of my current ISP?

    • Hi Steve, that’s a great question! The Unlimited Data definitely can help with taking pressure off your WiFi, just keep in mind that depending on what you’re using it for once the usage reaches 35GB the speeds are slowed so just depending on what you need the internet for, we’d recommend keeping your WiFi provider especially if you have multiple devices you’re wanting to connect to it.

  70. Ralph Pentello says

Will the ZTE Mobile Hotspot wifi run my Firetv stick on my TV? Plus my computer when I use the internet? I am a customer of consumer Cellular.

    Ralph

  71. zortilo nrel says

I see something really special in this site.

  72. Beverly Hawthorne says

I have 2 iPhones (separate lines) through Consumer Cellular. With the iPhone, in order to load updates & do backups, you must be connected to WiFi, and also be simultaneously connected directly to an electrical outlet. Since I don’t have WiFi service at my home, that means going elsewhere to get my updates, and do my backups. Do you offer a personal WiFi device & WiFi service, and, if so, how much does it cost? (I asked about this with one of your techs a year or so back, and was told that Consumer Cellular doesn’t offer WiFi service.)

    • Hi Beverly, great questions. We don’t offer a home WiFi service for customers, and we don’t have a hotspot device that can be used to connect the phone to. In this case, it would involve needing to go somewhere where WiFi is available.

  73. Beaux says

    Hey Becky,

Actually, you can use one of the iPhones as a hotspot to allow the other one to connect to it via WiFi.

  74. Dan says

We are interested in the zte hotspot. We rv about 2 weeks a month. My wife has a laptop and a lot of times the WiFi is not very good at campgrounds. Would this work for us when we are on the road

    • Hi Dan, thanks for your question! We do not currently offer the ZTE Hotspot option, but if you have a smartphone, you can enable the hotspot feature to connect other devices to that connection. As long as you have a cellular connection, you can use it on the data network.

  75. Ralph STRAUCH says

I have a family account used by 5 family members. I want to get a new Apple watch when they are released next week. Can I bring the Apple watch into my existing CC account?
