Introducing Our Newest Smartphone, the Moto G

A professional cell phone reviewer called it “the handset to beat in 2014.” I’m talking about our newest phone, the Moto G by Motorola, and I couldn’t agree more. And at a price of $150, it gives you the opportunity to experience an exceptional Android smartphone at an exceptional price.

The 4.5-inch high definition (HD) screen gives you the kind of rich screen color and pixel-density you’d expect from a more expensive phone. And it’s protected by Corning® Gorilla® Glass, which makes the display very hard to damage.

In addition to the display, I think you’ll appreciate its easy-to-use digital cameras. The Moto G comes with a 1.3 MP front-facing camera for video chats and self-portraits, what many kids might call “selfies,” and a 5 MP camera on the back for capturing images and video in High Definition. The device also has 8GB of storage, which means there’s plenty of room to store your memorable moments.

The Moto G delivers on audio, as well as video, with powerful external speakers and a dual-microphone design, helping to enhance sound quality. And it’s powered by a high-speed processor, giving you quick access to your apps and making multi-tasking a snap.

I could go on, because I love this phone and am pleased to announce its introduction to our diverse lineup of phones.

Best of all, as our customers know, you never have to sign a one or two-year contract to get a great phone for a great price from Consumer Cellular.

We’ve all been told you get what you pay for in life. In rare cases, I think you get even more. The Moto G delivers the kind of value and functionality you’d expect from a more expensive device. And in my book, that’s a win-win.

There’s a version with 16 GB internal memory. Is it available from CC? Cheers

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Kris. We’re currently only selling the 8 GB model and don’t have plans to offer the 16 GB version. We do however have customers who purchased the 16 GB model elsewhere and are using it on our network. If you need any additional assistance, please call us at 888-345-5508. Thanks again!

why not the 16GB, seems every review on line that the customer regrets that he didn’t upgrade to the larger capacity. Why not offer both versions, make sense for your customers

Thanks for the comment, Timothy. We will pass your feedback on to our management team. Thanks again!

I agree with Dean. This is a awesome android phone. We purchased Moto G’s 16GB as our FIRST ever smartphone. We also joined you at Consumer Cellular. We are into our second month of use and are totally sold on having them. 🙂 Great choice CC to offer this great phone so quickly!

    • Mark says

I bought Mom the Moto G 3 from Consumer Cellular so Mom could get tech support if I wasn’t available or there was something I couldn’t talk her through.
The G 3 beats the snot out of my WinPhone, I want a G 3.
But I want the 2×16 gig G 3 and I’ll pay the extra money to get one from a third party.
While the 1×8 model is overkill for Mom not so much for me as I’m looking to leave the laptop at home and use my next phone for remote cameras (endoscope) and automotive diagnostics.

The Moto G also comes with 16 GB memory. Will Consumer Cellular be offering that option as well as the 8GB?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for the question, Dean. We’re currently selling the 8 GB model and don’t have plans to offer the 16 GB version. We do however have customers who purchased the 16 GB model elsewhere and are using it on our network. If you need any additional assistance, please feel free to call us at 888-345-5508. I currently have the moto g 16gb version that i am using with consumer cellular. can you tell me how i can get it to send pictures in my text messages. Thanks

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, Steve. Sometimes turning your phone off and then turning it back on again can fix an issue like this. If that doesn’t work, our customer service team would be happy to help you. Just give them a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you!

I wear hearing aids and on almost all cell phones I have a terrible time hearing on them and therefore, I pass the phone to my wife to take the call. Also, in my house I cannot get Verizon coverage but I get great ATT coverage. Is this cell phone’s voice clarity tops and is it highly rated for hearing impaired and does ATT coverage comes with it for area code 71909. Thanks.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great questions, John. The Moto G has excellent sound clarity, and is M3/T4 hearing aid compatible. As for coverage in your area, here’s a link to our coverage map where you can search by zip code – https://www.consumercellular.com/coverage. Thank you again for the questions!

  7. Gregg Dumas says

My wife and I both got the Moto G about 3 weeks ago and have found it to be a good phone for us. The slow charging is taking so getting use to it take up to 3 hrs to get a full charge from a very low battery. But the does last a long long time on a charge. For the price I did not think it would be so nice. Good phone and would buy again if I had to so far 3 weeks out.

  8. Susan says

I like my Moto G and am learning much about it. Today an “H” has appeared on the upper right of the screen. I checked the online manual and don’t understand the explanation. Can you tell me, please?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Susan, thank you for the question. The “H” stands for HSPA, or High Speed Packet Access. It simply means that you are connecting at the highest data capability of 3G service, or that your download speeds are the best they can be on a 3G connection. It’s a good thing! Thank you for asking.

  9. Mary Altman says

Can this phone be used with wifi, and can a sd card be used and if so is the use limited to only certain things?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Mary! The Moto G can indeed be used with WiFi, which is always a good way to minimize data usage. It doesn’t have SD card capabilities, but it does come with 8.0GB of internal storage. If you would like to see a full list of the Moto G’s features, please visit our Phone Comparison page here. Thank you again!

      • DonRheta says

I have the new Moto G Ext which does have an SD slot. My question concerns sending photos using my home wi-fi. I can only send them if I enable my data through Consumer Cellular. If I try just using my Wi-fi connection I get an error message, telling me I have to enable data. Regular texts are fine and go through with no problems.

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, DonRheta. In order to send a picture message, you do need to enable data on your phone. Regular text messages don’t require data, so they can be sent using Wi-Fi only. We recommend turning your data on to send the picture message, then turning it off while you are using your device’s other functions. If you ever have any questions about using the messaging features on your phone, feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. We’re happy to help!

Can photos from the phone be downloaded to a computer?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Nick. You can download photos from the Moto G to your computer by using the included data cable. If you find you need assistance, feel free to call us at (888) 345-5509, and a member of our customer service team can walk you through the process. Thank you for the comment!

      • paul says

There is NO data cable included. The Moto G comes only with a power cord that connects to the wall. No USB detachable cord like other phones.

  11. Renee Monahan says

Hi, I LOVE CC. I understand that you will be offering a few new phones soon. I am looking for a smartphone but want a 16 GB and I would prefer to buy my phone from you. Please advise when your new selection will be available. Thanks

  12. Brady Petongan says

    Hi there,

Does the CC Moto G include the 1700 Mhz band?

    Thank you!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, Brady. The Moto G does work on the 1700 MHz band, and you can verify your coverage by checking our coverage map here. If you have other questions about the phone or service, our customer support team will be happy to help: just give them a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you!

  13. Rob says

Motorola has released a newer version of the Moto G which includes 4G LTE and a slot for a MicroSD card (up to 32GB).

Will CC offer this phone and if so, when? Also, does the CC network support 4G LTE?

    Thanks.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, Rob. We are always looking to add new phones, and the best way to see what we are offering is by taking a look at our Phones page here. We do support LTE devices, such as the iPhone on our network. If you have any questions about a certain phone model, just give our customer support team a call at (888) 345-5509. Thanks again!

  14. Luke R says

    Hi,

Is the Moto G you guys are selling the 4G LTE, or the 3G version? If it is the 4G LTE, than you’re undercutting the competition by quite some dollars, and so I’m thinking what you’re selling is the 3G.

    Cheers,

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Luke. The Moto G we currently offer is the 3G version. Thanks!

  15. Motorola G (2014) says

I am really interested in signing up for Consumer Cellular but I want the Motorola G (2014). The only one offer on your site is the Motorola G 1st generation. When will the (2014) be available?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question. Our phone lineup is constantly changing, and we try to choose devices that would be a good fit for our customers. At this time, we only carry the 1st Generation Moto G. We recommend occasionally checking our Phones page at ConsumerCellular.com/shopping/choose/device. There, you will be able to see our current lineup. We also announce new devices through our Blog here as well. You can also give us a call at 888-345-5509, and our customer service team can provide you with phone information. Thank you!

  16. Motorola G (2014) says

Thank you! I checked the technology specs for the Motorola G 2013 vs. the 2014 and they are the same. I am thinking I can buy the 2nd gen and use it on Consumer Cellar. I will call your customer service team about it.

  17. George says

Your coverage maps are deceptive at best and simply false at worst. While I love the phone and the plan, there are a number of places within my “coverage area” where there is absolutely no service. Do you have any plans to increase the number of towers? There is a tower of some sort on every hill, but none seem to be yours.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, George. Coverage depends on many factors, but sometimes there are settings we can adjust to help you get better reception. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we will take a look at your coverage area and work to remedy this issue. Thank you again for the feedback!

  18. Delane says

Are there protective covers for the Moto G? I love the phone easability, very similiar to the Samsung Galaxy 4. I worry about dropping it or scratching the screen.

    Thanks,

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Delane. We have a variety of accessories available for the Moto G which can help protect your phone. You can see our accessory kits at your local Sears store, or you can give us a call at 888-345-5509 and order one directly. Thank you!

  19. Louise J says

Will any model Moto G work on Consumer Cellular service (xt1034, 1032 et al) or only certain ones?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Louise. We have found that GSM Moto G models which are unlocked work well with our service. If you would like to try our service, call us and we will send you our free SIM card to start! If you have any questions about which model would be the best fit for you, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you!

  20. DANIEL BUSH says

HOW DO YOU ACTIVE THE HOTSPOT TETHERING

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Daniel. We offer hotspot tethering on our iPhones and some Android models, but we need to enable the function on our end. We encourage customers to use the tethering function sparingly as it can result in unexpected data charges. If you would like to add this feature to your phone, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. We can get that taken care of for you. Thanks again for the question!

      • Toby says

Is hotspot tethering supported on the Motorola Moto G LTE (3rd Gen.) ???

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We do support tethering for that model of Moto G, Toby. We’re happy to turn that feature on for you if you give us a call at 888-345-5509. Just be sure to keep in mind that tethering can use data very quickly, so we recommend using it sparingly so you don’t have any unexpected overages. Thank you for asking, and we look forward to assisting you!

Does the moto g ext have wifi enabled calling?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Crissy. The Moto G EXT does not support Wi-Fi enabled calling at this time. Thank you for taking the time to post today!

  22. DonRheta says

When I receive a photo via text on my Moto G EXT I can find no way to save it to my phone. Can someone enlighten me? This is my first smart phone and I have much to learn,

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, DonRheta. The easiest way to save the picture to your phone is to open the text message with the photo, then press and hold the image. You will be prompted to save the photo to your gallery. That’s it! We recommend using our How-To videos on the Support Page here to get to know your phone better. They allow you to follow along with your phone and allow you to learn at your own pace. Thank you again for taking the time to post today!

      • DonRheta says

Thanks Ashley. I tried that previously, but for some reason I never got the prompt. There were 3 photos and they displayed in what appeared to be a slideshow format with play and pause indicators. Would that make a difference? I watched the videos and some were very helpful.

  23. Mdp says

I see that Lollipop is now available for your Moto G EXT phones. Any plans on having it for us with a regular Moto G?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking! The Lollipop update is available for our Moto G EXT customers, but it not yet available for our Moto G users. These updates are provided by the manufacturers, so unfortunately, we don’t know when they will be available. We’ll be sure to let our customers know here on our blog, or on our social media channels if that changes. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

  24. King Charles says

I have the EXT & am trying to save pics sent via text to my gallery. I tried the long hold on the pic like suggested here to no avail.
    Thanks

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking! To save a photo sent to you via text message, start with the conversation on your screen. Then press and hold the photo sent to you, and you’ll then be given the option to save. We’re happy to walk you through it if you like, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to comment today!

Does the moto g from consumer cellular have a sim chip? I got the phone a few years ago but cannot remember if it does or not.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Bill. Each of our phones come complete with a SIM card, which allows it to connect to our network so you can make calls, send text messages and surf the internet. Please let us know if you need a new SIM card or if we can help you with anything else at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

  26. Fawn says

I am now unable to receive picture messages. However, I am still able to send picture messages and the receiving can view. Do I need to do a factory reset to get this working again?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Fawn. There are a few other things we can try on our end before performing a factory reset, so please give us a call at 888-345-5509 when you get a chance. Our team can send some new settings to your phone that should resolve that issue. We appreciate you posting, and we look forward to talking with you!

  27. Eli Hunkler says

I use a lot of apps on my Moto G 1st gen. Currently, my device says it’s running out of storage. I would like to add more storage and I looked up how to install an SD card. According to the Motorola website, there should be another port, similar to the sim card port, that can hold an SD card. On my device, however, that port is blocked off by a piece of plastic. I’m wondering if there’s any other way to add memory.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I’m happy to clear that up, Eli. The first generation Moto G device did not have support for a micro-SD card unfortunately. If you’re looking to make space on your device, we recommend removing photos and videos if possible. Try the Google Photos app, which allows you to store those on the cloud, then access them on your phone whenever you want. We can answer any other storage-related questions you may have at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to post, and we hope you have a great day!

  28. Robert F. says

I bought my Moto G5 Plus through Consumer Cellular as I have been a subscriber there for over a year. Motorola (now Lenovo) has said the update has been “released pending partner support.” My phone is paid for and unlocked, when will CC allow for the update to reach my phone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Robert. Once the manufacturer has released the update, it may take some time for your phone to update. You can see if the update is available by going to your Settings app, then scrolling to the bottom until you see the About Phone option. Tap that, then tap the option to view System Updates. If the update has been sent to your device, you can download it there. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. Thanks for posting today!

  29. Dave says

Does this phone support WiFi Calling? I’m on a custom ROM that lets me select it. I just need to know if CC supports it of this phone

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Dave. This version of the Moto G does not support Wi-Fi calling, but we’re happy to tell you about other devices that utilize that feature. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we’ll be happy to help you choose a device that’s the right fit. We appreciate you posting today!
