Don’t forget to tell us your story!

Our second annual Grandparents Day contest is winding down but you still have time to enter and vote. Just write an essay or make a video, tell us about your “grandparenting” experience and submit your entry before August 1st.

If you’re not sure what to say or how to say it, I encourage you to visit our Gallery page for ideas. Don’t forget to watch the video entries we’ve already received. Making a video is a lot easier—and more fun—than it sounds.

To whet your appetite, here are a few of my favorite comments so far this year:

In her essay, Susan said, “It is a tremendous privilege to be a grandparent and be able to relive your child’s years through their children.”

Teresa told us, “I love my grandsons… best of all, they’ve welcomed Grandma into their gang—letting me pretend that I’m a tomboy again.”

Frank’s essay included this gem that spans generations and packs a wallop: “My grandfather survived the Holocaust and created a new life for himself in the United States, making it all possible for me to write this story.”

Carol summed up what many felt by saying, “When you become a grandparent you never expect to love something so much and so hard with so much pleasure.”

Our grand prize winner will get a chance to create new family stories and memories with a free six-night Caribbean cruise for four provided by the AARP Travel Center powered by Expedia®. Second place will get four roundtrip airline tickets to anywhere in the continental United States. And third place will earn a two-night stay for four at any Marriott property in the continental U.S.

Last year’s top prize winner, Pam Payne, thanked us for what she called “a vacation of a lifetime.”

I’d like to thank Pam, as well as all our contestants for being successful grandparents, parents, or grandchildren. Connecting with your family across generations is a vocation of a lifetime. And as the #1 rated no contract wireless provider, Consumer Cellular is proud to help make such connections possible.
