Consumer Cellular Adds Full Internet to Data Plans, Reduces Prices

New Connect! Plans Combine Full Internet Access and Messaging
PORTLAND, Ore. — Monday, August 2, 2010

Consumer Cellular (, a national provider of wireless phones and services, has upgraded its data and messaging plans to include full access to the Internet combined with text messaging, reducing the total price for both services through its "Connect!" program.

Through the new Connect! messaging and data offerings, customers can now select one of four options that best meet their needs:

  • Connect! Lite: 100 messages and 2 MB of data for $2.50 per month
  • Connect! Ready: 500 messages and 15 MB of data for $5.00 per month
  • Connect! Active: 1,000 messages and 30 MB of data for $10.00 per month
  • Connect! Complete: 2,000 messages and 75 MB of data for $20.00 per month

For customers on family plans, there is no additional cost to share a Connect! plan. It remains $10 per month to add a line to an account, no matter which services are included.

"Consumer Cellular is all about making cellular phone access simple and affordable, regardless of services offered, from messaging to phone to data," said John Marick, CEO of Consumer Cellular. "And with the increased interest in messaging and wireless Internet access through cellular devices, we now have four inexpensive, convenient and straightforward data plans for our customers—all without long-term contracts."

With the upgraded data plans, current customers with messaging packages will receive Internet access that corresponds to their respective plan, at no additional cost. Because there are no long–term contracts, customers may change their plans at anytime for any reason.

"Although many of our customers do not currently use messaging or data services, we want to make sure we have those types of offerings in a simple format and at an affordable rate," said Greg Pryor, chief operating officer for Consumer Cellular. "Our customers may want to connect with their grandkids through a text message, or share photos of the family with friends on Facebook. The Connect! program provides access to those services whenever it may be needed."

Consumer Cellular also monitors a customer's cell phone use on their behalf so customers do not exceed their monthly wireless plan. Customers are notified with a Usage Alert when they near their monthly voice, message or data allotment. This advance notification provides customers the option to pace their usage or upgrade their wireless plan to better fit their lifestyle. Customers are also able to change their rate plan retroactively up to the last day of the customer's billing cycle, which allows them to take advantage of the best possible pricing.

Consumer Cellular's affordable, simple wireless solutions also do not include early termination fees. Rates start at only $10 a month and are ideal for those interested in the convenience of cellular service without paying high rates for unused features.
