Consumer Cellular (www.ConsumerCellular.com), the number one rated cell phone service provider and exclusive wireless provider for AARP members, contributed $146,999 to a variety of organizations in 2011, more than doubling their charitable contributions from the previous year.
“We always strive to be an active member of the community,” said Consumer Cellular CEO John Marick. “Community service has been a key pillar of our organization and we are pleased we could double down our efforts this year to support several organizations committed to social and environmental responsibility.”
The 2011 donations include an innovative new partnership with the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), where Consumer Cellular donates $5 to the NPCA for every new and existing customer who enrolls in its paperless billing program. When the two organizations announced the groundbreaking program in June 2011, Consumer Cellular pledged to donate up to $150,000 to the organization leading the effort to protect and enhance America’s national park system.
In addition, Consumer Cellular raises money for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation through a mobile phone recycling program launched in Oct. 2007. New and existing customers are encouraged to recycle their old phones through postage-paid envelopes enclosed with each new phone or by printing a postage-free mailing label on the Consumer Cellular website. These community-driven initiatives surrounding sustainable practices, in addition to the programs coordinated through Consumer Cellular’s corporate offices in Portland and Phoenix, led to a record year of donations for the company.

In addition to financial support for a number of organizations, Consumer Cellular also organizes in-kind donation drives with its employees, including programs such as blood drives for the American Red Cross.
