The Mobile Hotspot: A Handy, Reliable Wireless Connection

For many of us, access to the internet has become more a necessity than a luxury. So many important, everyday things we do require a data connection–from checking email to online shopping and banking. It’s crucial to make sure you have a way to stay connected, and while public Wi-Fi is now widely available, you’ll still find yourself out of its range on many occasions.

That’s where the ZTE Mobile Hotspot comes in so handy. Easy to setup, it uses cellular data to create a local Wi-Fi network for up to 10 devices including tablets and laptops, with no drop-off in performance—and no demands on your smartphone. Just switch it on wherever you have cellular service, and you can connect to the internet with fast LTE speed. Lightweight and portable, it includes a long-lasting battery, which lets you keep up to 5 devices connected for up to 15 hours.

It offers an ideal solution for staying connected wherever you go. Even if you’re out of range of a public Wi-Fi signal, you can still access your personal wireless network through the use of a mobile hotspot, while keeping your smartphone available for other tasks. While it isn’t meant to replace your primary internet service, it gives you a convenient, dependable, and economical wireless internet option whenever you’re out and about.

It’s also a terrific deal, at just $80. You can add a dedicated line to your account for the Hotspot for only $15 a month, and share the mobile data on your existing Connect plan. Get started today online, or by contacting customer support at (888) 345-5509.

Stay online with ease, and in places you’d never imagine—in the park, waiting for the mechanic, at a campsite, even between flights at the airport. With the ZTE Mobile Hotspot, you’ll never need to worry about being connected again.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, VB! The great thing about the Hotspot is that it can be used at home, while traveling, in the car or anywhere else you have cellular service. It’s a very useful tool to have when on a road trip or family vacation. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509 at your convenience. where can i get the mobile hotspot device

      • Hi Karen, thanks for your question! At this time we don’t offer a mobile hotspot device but you can look around at third party sellers to see if one might be compatible if it’s unlocked and GSM-compatible. Most smartphones offer this as a feature though and we’d be happy to see if we can get it set up on your device if possible. Give us a call at 800-686-4460 or chat with us here for further assistance with that.

        • Dan says

Hi, Jacob! Using hotspot on a phone would means using data on a phone plane, right? So if I want to use the hotspot feature on my CC phone, I would need to purchase a larger data plan, not a hotspot plan which you do not have on your site. Am I right? Thanks!

          • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

That’s correct, Dan. The hotspot service would use data from your existing Connect plan. Depending on how you’ll be using the hotspot, you may not need to increase your plan but if you know you’ll be using it quite a bit, then you should expect that you’ll need a higher Connect plan.

  2. Sheri Olson says

    Does it work internationally?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Sheri. The Hotspot is designed to work with our service within the United States, and we can’t guarantee that the device will work in every country or that data will be available. If you have any other questions about the hotspot or about our service, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

  3. Carol Shaw says

So, if I have already a two phone account with CC, it would cost me an additional $15.00 a month?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s correct, Carol. You can add the Hotspot as an additional line to your account for $15 each month, and the device will share your Connect plan. If we can answer any other questions you may have or help you order the Hotspot, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. Thanks for taking the time to post, and we hope you have a great day!

  4. Mary Wonner says

    Is it secure?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Mary! The Hotspot creates a secure Wi-Fi network that is password protected. It also comes with WPS, which can provide additional security. We’re happy to tell you more about this great product at 888-345-5509 if you like. Thanks for posting today!

  5. Rob Gould says

    Does it work in Europe?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Rob. Like our service, this device is designed to work within in the United States. We aren’t able to guarantee that the device will work in every country or that data will be available. We’re happy to answer any other questions over the phone at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post today!

  6. Larry Azzaro says

So, adding a line for this internet anywhere plan, you create another phone line that a phone # is, or can be assigned to ? or is it a dedicated line for internet only service ???

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I’m happy to clear that up, Larry. When you add the Hotspot to your account, it will be counted as an additional line of service, and you’ll see a $15 monthly charge. It is a dedicated line for internet service, so you won’t see any minutes or text messages used by the Hotspot, just data. If we can answer any other questions you may have, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you for reaching out to us, and we hope you have a lovely day!

  7. Phyllis says

    Love this product and service

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s great to hear, Phyllis! Thank you for taking the time to share your kind words with us. We hope you have a lovely day!

  8. Joli R says

I share an account with my sister who lives in California. She does not have a dedicated internet service in the apartment. Will this work as a replacement for an internet hotspot in her apartment without a dedicated Internet Service?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Joli. Our hotspot is designed to keep you connected while traveling or when you’re away from a Wi-Fi source. We don’t recommend that you use the hotspot as your primary form of internet. We’re happy to tell you more about this device if you like at 888-345-5509. Thank you again for taking the time to post!

      • Etta Odaniel says

We are currently using hot spot on our phones for internet. So why couldn’t we use the hot spot device as our home internet service. If we have unlimited data, then we should have unlimited hot spot, correct? What speed would this hot spot device have in our account? And do our phone hit towers as we travel enabling us to talk and go into maps or Facebook (as example) ?

        • Hi Etta, thanks for your questions. We don’t currently have a hotspot device as part of our line up for our phones. We do offer Unlimited Data as part of our plans, but the LTE speeds do get cut off at 35GB of data used. You can continue to use the data at slower speeds beyond this point, or you can also purchase more data as well if needed.

  9. Janice Wohlenhaus says

    Hey CC,
I’m technically challenged so be patient? Lol what, precisely, uses Data? And which plan will allow us the most Data? We are trying this for the 1st time and already we’ve used more than half our Data and it’s only the beginning of the month?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re happy to help, Janice! First, if you haven’t done so already, connect your devices to your local Wi-Fi network. That way, you can enjoy many of your smartphone’s features without using any data. Data is used when you check email, access the internet, watch videos, stream music and more. Some activities, such as downloading items or streaming video, may use more data than you expect. That’s why we always recommend that you use Wi-Fi when you can. To keep an eye on your data, you can go to your Settings, then select Data. There you’ll be able to see how much data is being used by each app. And of course, we’re happy to answer any of your questions at 888-345-5509. Thanks for taking the time to post, and we hope you enjoy your smartphones!

  10. Andrew says

I intend to use the device on an rv trip and to do donloads and streaming but I see that your plans only go up to 10gb what happens if I go over those 10gb ?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Andrew. The hotspot is perfect for checking email or browsing the internet, but we wouldn’t recommend that you use it for streaming and downloads. Those activities can require a lot of data, so it’s best to do so via Wi-Fi if possible. Once you have exceeded the 10GB maximum on our largest plan, you will be billed an additional $5 for each extra GB used. You may also experience slower data speeds after 10GB of use. The maximum amount of data available in any billing cycle is 18GB. If you do reach this amount, your data use will be suspended until the next billing cycle starts. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have about this device at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  11. Anne Penfield says

Hi Folks…I have ONE line. Is the hot spot device paid off in monthly installments of $15.00 or is buying the device a one shot price then you you charge me an extra payment of $15.00 to use it monthly? Will being an AARP member add on any discount to my plan if I use the device? All said and done how much will I be charged on a monthly basis providing I buy the device? Also will I need to use a password for the device each time I’m out and about with it or will it automatically ‘know’ my phone and not need a password? Also when I’m out and about will other people near me be able to tune into it as well for free or will it only be set up for my own personal use. I am praying my monthly bill won’t be more after I buy the hot-spot and using it. Sorry for all these questions but I really need to be able to afford this with the plan I have. Thank you so much and I’ll be looking forward to hearing from you!! Sincerely yours, Anne

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Anne. I’m happy to answer your questions! First, we don’t offer any payment plans for the Hotspot. When you add it as an additional line to your account, you’ll pay $15 each month in addition to your plan. The great news is that the hotspot will share the data along with your phone. As an AARP member, you’re already receiving a discount each month on your data plan, which saves you 5% each month. The Hotspot is password protected, but once you connect, your device can “remember” the password so you won’t need to type it in each time. And since it is password protected, no one around you will be able to use it unless you provide them with the password. Do keep in mind that the Hotspot uses data to access the internet, so depending on the plan you’re using, you may require more a larger plan if you use it a lot. If we can answer any other questions you may have, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  12. Margaret Reynolds says

Why do not recommend this the use of the hot spot as the dedicated Internet?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Margaret! Depending on how much the Hotspot is used, it may result in more data use than expected. As our largest data plan offers 10GB per month, it may not be sufficient enough for everyone. That’s why we recommend it as an option for traveling or when you’re away from another Wi-Fi source. We appreciate you posting today!

      • Priscilla says

        Hi Ashley
I just purchased the hotspot for my mom to use in her apartment. The only 2 devices using the hotspot will be her cellphone (only for calls, she doesn’t download or stream) and a camera. Will I still need to have a dedicated internet service in addition to the hotspot?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Priscilla. If your mother is using a cellphone, she shouldn’t need to connect to the hotspot to make calls or use data. As for the camera, it would depend on the type used. Please keep in mind that the hotspot is designed to be used when you’re away from your usual Wi-Fi connection. We’re happy to speak with you and get a better idea of the type of usage you have planned at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we look forward to assisting you!

  13. Mary Rosson says

I am in retail sales and I have a web site. Sometimes when I am at events showing my product I want the potential customer to get on my web site and I have problems with it being slow. Would this help me in that situation?
Also, I am interested in being about to accept Credit card payments on my phone do you have a device for that?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Mary! If you’re in locations that have many people sharing one Wi-Fi network, you may have a better experience with the Hotspot. It will provide you with a personal LTE connection. As for a device that accepts credit card payments, we don’t offer one at this time, though it is a great suggestion! We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting, and we hope you have a lovely day!

  14. Jackie says

With the $15 extra monthly charge that I would have, would I be able to use all the data I want; then delete the extra data charge that I am paying now. It sure would be nice to have such a device.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Jackie! You can add another line to your plan for an additional $15 each month. Both lines will share your current minutes and your Connect plan, so your phone and the Hotspot would share the amount of data on your plan. We’re happy to see if this would be a good fit for you at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to comment, and we look forward to speaking with you!

  15. Gayla says

I already have a ZTE device. Would it be possible to switch the SIM card and add $15/mo charge to my account?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Gayla! We can’t guarantee that a device sold by another carrier will work with our service, but we’re happy to discuss this with you at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us, and we look forward to speaking with you!

  16. Joan Ness says

I have a hot spot from consumer Cellular but it cost so much to use it when away from home. Would this one be better?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Joan! This hotspot works in the same way as the device you already have. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a lovely day!

  17. George Lollar says

I would love for Consumer Cellular to offer a hotspot data-only, unlimited data plan, There are many customers who live in suburban or “country” areas where there are no choices for cable, fiber, or other dedicated internet lines. With “Advanced LTE”, download and upload speeds compete with cable, DSL, and soon with newer LTE advances, even fiber. I will soon be moving to a home “in the country” where the seemingly only internet access choice is satellite. The speeds are limited and latency is atrocious. So, not a solution for me. AT&T offers an unlimited advanced LTE data plan but I would prefer to use Consumer Cellular if at all possible. Hopefully, your engineers and management will soon see the advantages of offering such service to your customers.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us, George! That’s a great suggestion, and I’m happy to pass it on to our management team. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  18. Karen Allen says

New to the site. We bought smart tv and I want to call internet provider to have internet only, it online it says your’re just opening your checkbook. Is there a way to watch prime tv channels with no landline, and play games on tablet and browse and see sports for under 100? And stay that way? I think would be a win-win.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Karen! Our largest data plan offers 10GB of data, which can be shared between a smartphone and a hotspot if you like. However, streaming video does use more data than other tasks, so depending on how often you like to watch television or browse on your tablet, you may find that you need more than your plan offers. We’re happy to talk with you about your usage and see if we would be a good fit. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we’ll be ready to speak with you. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us, and we hope you have a lovely day!

      • Dawn says

        Hi Ashley,

I’m shocked that your biggest data plan is only 10 GB. I am a AARP member and was thinking of switching from Version who I had been with since they started. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and a Jet Port for Wifi since I don’t have internet in my house and I am not close enough to anything to pick up free wifi and even with my educator discount I’m paying close to $200.00.

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Dawn. We offer a variety of plans, with the largest data plan including 10GB of data. Many of our customers find that they use much less data than expected on some months, and they can switch to a smaller plan and save money. There are no change fees, and you can change your plan at any time. We’re happy to talk with you about your usage needs and see if our service would be a good fit. Please feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. We appreciate your feedback, and we hope you have a lovely day!

  19. Herman Smith says

I have a video camera that I intend to us at church to record our service each Sunday. The camera can be controlled via a wireless connection. This allows you to zoom in and out, etc via software on your smartphone or tablet. However, we do not have any internet connection at the church. Can I use the hot spot on the CC phone to connect my phone or tablet to the camera to gain control of it and will it use any data by doing so?

    • Hi Herman, thanks for your question. HotSpot allows your phone to connect to another device and share the cellular data service from your phone. Connecting a device to your phone’s HotSpot does use cellular data from your plan. To enable the HotSpot service for your phones, please give us a call at 888-345-5509 at your convenience.

  20. Kevin OLeary says

    1. If I connect my CC phone to the hot spot, can i use my (stand alone) ipad to get the wireless from that platform?

2, I want pay bills while I’m on the road, would this give me the security I need to do that?

    3. I never stream video and I have 10gb now.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We appreciate you commenting today, Kevin. There’s no need to connect your phone to the hotspot, as it would use the same data as it would otherwise. You could connect your iPad directly to the hotspot and access the internet wherever you are. The hotspot also provides a private network, so it would be more secure than another type of public Wi-Fi connection. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have about this great device at 888-345-5509, so please don’t hesitate to call. Thank you for reaching out to us, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  21. Liz McClure says

I would love to see CC add the capability of being able to add the watches and tablets to our plans since that generation is coming into the 50 club and using this technology! Thanks

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Liz! We do have customers who are using their tablets with our service. To see if this is an option for your device, you’ll need to see if it can accept a SIM card, and that it is unlocked and uses GSM technology. We’re happy to tell you more about this at 888-345-5509 if you like. As for using a smartwatch, I’m happy to pass your suggestion on to our management team. We always appreciate it when our customers share their ideas with us, so thank you for taking the time to reach out to us!

  22. Peter says

Why should use ZTE Mobil Hot spot just to get Internet access? Paying EXTRA $15 for another line and buy data plan? Adding JUST additional DATA plan to my “regular ” plan, I can use TETHERING function/option on my phone to provide Internet access to all my tablets, laptops……..using that phone TETHERING. You are not telling people about this possibility. WHY? They can save $15 monthly for another line and they do not have to buy your ZTE Mobil Hotspot for $80, right?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Peter. Many of our customers use flip phones or other devices, which may not offer a tethering option. The Mobile Hotspot allows them to have internet access wherever they are, and multiple devices can connect at one time. We’re happy to tell you more about our service at 888-345-5509 and review all of the device options available. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out, and we hope you have a great day!

  23. Peter. says

Hello Ashley. I got “flip” phone some years ago. They have no capability to install browser and go to Internet. I do not know what are you talking about. You do not even mentioned this option for those people who have “smart phones”. So I will do: People with “smart phones”…you do not have to buy ZTE Mobil Hot spot just to get Internet access. You do not have to pay $15 for another line! Just purchase DATA CONNECT PLAN as addition to your calling plan. 3GB DATA PLan is $20.00 per month for all your phones on your Consumer Cellular account. They have more DATA PLANS …10GB for example, just do your homework. When you purchase that plan, go to your phone find TETHERING option, enable it and let Cons.Cell. activate it. THATS ALL. You will have Internet access using that TETHERING function from your phone. Be sure, you have at least TWO BARS service strength indicator on your phone. You welcome.

  24. GARY GODOROV says

I called your company and the lady I spoke with told me the hot spot has unlimited data is this right information I was given over the phone

    Thanks Gary

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Gary. We apologize if you were given incorrect information. Our hotspot can be used with any of our Connect plans, with the largest plan offering 10GB of data. If you like, we can review this with you further at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and we hope to speak with you soon!

  25. Paul Phillips says

It’s so good to use and I like it a lot

  26. Brenda says

My phone will not connect to my data. I have spoken to technical help in chat about obtaining correct vpn address however, they were unable to fix the problem. Will my phone connect via the hotspot?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Brenda, I see that you were able to get in touch with one of our agents via chat to resolve this. If you need any further assistance, you can call us at 888-345-5509 or chat with us here.

    • Mark Long says

Hello, I am considering switching to CC and have a concern over the HotSpot use. I currently use my iPhone’s hotspot feature to connect my iPad when traveling. Will I still be able to use this feature of my phone?

  27. Robert says

I leave my home for several months in the winter and would like to be able to continue to use my Wi-Fi enabled thermostat. Is that a reasonable (and non-data intensive) use for this device?

    • Great question, Robert. We do not actually have the ZTE Hotspot in stock at this time, however, most smartphones do have the hotspot feature that can be enabled for your devices to connect to. It can use a lot of data if you’re using it constantly, but if it is only for something occasional or for a short amount of time, it should work out just fine. If you’d like some assistance with enabling this or have any other questions about the feature, feel free to give us a call at 800-686-4460 or you can also chat with a live agent here.

  28. Robert T Patrick says

Since it is out of stock at CC, can I buy a ZTE Wi-Fi hotspot from Amazon and use it with Consumer Cellular?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Robert, if you decide to purchase the hotspot device elsewhere, you can try using it on our service if it is unlocked, GSM-compatible, and able to use a SIM card. We aren’t able to guarantee that it will work, but we’ll do what we can to get it configured to our network.

  29. Sharon Michael says

I am moving and will not have wifi will a hotspot work for me. I use a lot of data

    • Hi Sharon, great question! If you’re planning on using it while you wait for WiFi to get set up, then it’s definitely a great option. We don’t recommend it replacing WiFi though since we do not offer Unlimited Data as part of our plan lineup.

  30. Wendy Roberts says

My dad has a CC phone. He also has cameras and would like to get the ZTE device for his wifi needs. Is this possible?

    Thanks,
    Wendy

    • Hi Wendy, thanks for your question. We don’t actually have the hotspot in stock and we’re not sure if or when it may become available again. However, if your dad has a smartphone, we may be able to enable the hotspot feature for him and then he can use his phone as one. Give us a call at 800-686-4460 or chat with us here if you have any questions.

  31. Brenda Zerbe says

    hello
we have a cabin and was wondering whats the best way to get wifi on our cells while there at cabin? since you don’t sell any hotspot devices anymore? will you be having any new hotspot devices coming out soon?

    • Hi Brenda, thanks for your question. At this time we don’t know if, or when, we will be getting a new hotspot device for our customers. However, your smartphones can enable a tethering feature that can be used in the same way. We would just need to have you contact us in order to enable it on our end. You can reach us by giving us a call at 800-686-4460 or you can also chat with one of our agents here.

  32. Tim says

If I have a hotspot device, could I buy a sim card for it from CC since I am a current customer?

    Thanks

    • Thanks for your question, Tim. If it’s unlocked and GSM-compatible, it may work on our network. We can’t guarantee compatibility for all devices but we could definitely try it out if you would like.

  33. Arch says

I am a CC customer using an iPhone 8. This phone has a personal hotspot feature in Settings.

Since I already have this feature on my phone, will I incur the $15 monthly charge if I turn it on and access it using another device such as a laptop computer?

Also, I see that CC now has an unlimited monthly data plan. What would I expect to experience in terms of data speed and other usage issues if I decided to use this hotspot for ALL my internet access needs whether using my iPhone or a laptop computer?

    Thank you.

    • That is a great great question, Arch. If you are using the hotspot feature on your phone to connect different devices, such as your laptop, to the internet then you wouldn’t pay for an additional line fee since you’re using your existing line with that feature. If would only be if you add a line for a separate hotspot device that you pay for an additional line. I would advise that once the usage hits 35GB of data the speeds do slow down so if you have access to WiFi I would encourage using it off and on to help balance this.

  34. Sherri says

When are more hotspots going to be available? I need one now!!! I live out in the country and can’t get internet any other way than a hotspot.

    • Hi Sherri, thanks for your question. We don’t know when or if we will be receiving a new hotspot device to be used on our network. We do offer a hotspot tethering feature for smartphones that can be enabled to use though. If you’d like to get that enabled, just give us a call at 800-686-4460 or you can also chat with us here for further assistance.

  35. Paula says

    Hello,
Can I use the hotspot anywhere? Even in my second house in another state?

    • Hi Paula, thank you for your question. We don’t actually offer the hotspot device at this time, however, if you enable the hotspot feature for the phone, you can use it anywhere as long as you have a connection to the network.

  36. Richard says

Can I move my Consumer Cellular SIM from phone to an unlocked GSM modem and use my current data plan?

  37. Ruby says

Can you help me out please I have a laptop and I need to get video chat with my lawyer I need internet service and I am a consumer cellular customer Thank you

    • Hi Ruby, thanks for your question. We’d be happy to enable the hotspot feature in your phone if you’d like to use it and connect your laptop to it. Give us a call at 800-686-4460 or you can also chat with one of our agents here for further assistance.

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Janice. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to troubleshoot the connection with the TV. We recommend reaching out to the manufacturer of your smart TV.

2 questions as an existing CC client. 1. If I can get tethering to work on my phone, I don’t need to add a line to my plan. Correct? 2. Does the time my phone is tethered get counted as Talk minutes?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Caroline, if you were going to add a line to use the hotspot service with, but instead are able to use it on your existing smartphone, then you would not need to add another line. Any internet access used while your phone is tethered to another device will go against your mobile data, not your talk minutes.

I am trying to get more information about mobile hotspot. Robert Walker.

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Robert, we don’t have a standalone hotspot device but all of our smartphones come with hotspot built-in and it uses data from our Connect plans. If you want to speak with an agent about that you can give us a call at 888-345-5509.

I am interested in finding out how a Hotspot works in a camper! We live and travel in our camper. And would love to be able to have internet everywhere we go! Can the Hotspot be used in a camper?

If we add a line with a hotspot capable phone just to use it as a mobile hotspot, will each line we have get 35gb of full-speed data before speed throttling? or does the data slow down after 35gb of pooled data btwn all the lines ?

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Thomas. Data usage is shared across all lines on an account, unless you request to have a line separated into it’s own rate plan. While on Unlimited Data, access to high speeds would be limited after 50GB of use. Data would then continue to be available at slower speeds for the remainder of the billing cycle.

It is my understanding that Consumer Cellular has decided not to support wifi Hotspots anymore. How can this be ture? I am sure a lot of users depend on the hotspot when traveling (and at home) to get the internet on our laptops. I have a separate line for mine to use with my computer. Please tell me this is NOT true!

    • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Mark, while we no longer offer a hotspot device, all of our current smartphones come with the feature built-in that can be used instead of needing a separate device and line.

Thank you for replying so quickly Nicole. I am currently replacing/upgrading my Home phone base and my cell phone to newer 4g items with CC. So you are saying I can use my new cell phone as a hotspot for my laptop. This will help me, so I will not need a third line. Thank you so much for the information (I am an old duck and it takes awhile for me to understand things). I just did not want to deal with another company for my Data.
