During this window, people with Medicare can: <\/p>\n\n\n\n AEP is the one time during the year when everyone with Medicare can make changes to their coverage. Whether you\u2019ve got a private plan, like Medicare Advantage, or Original Medicare, AEP allows you to take a look at what\u2019s available for the next year and update your coverage if you need to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Why bother updating a Medicare plan? Two reasons: cost and coverage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Private Medicare plans like Medicare Advantage and Part D drug plans can change from year to year. If you have one of these plans, you should get an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) in September outlining any changes to the plan. You can use the ANOC and your own personal experience with the plan to decide whether you want to keep it or look for something else. <\/p>\n\n\n\n But even if you like your plan, the Medicare AEP gives you the opportunity to compare new options. You may find coverage that fits your needs and budget better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Open Enrollment for Individual Marketplace Plans<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n If you\u2019re under 65, you can use the Open Enrollment for Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans, also known as Marketplace plans. For short, we refer to ACA plans as \u201cmarketplace\u201d plans even though you don\u2019t have to buy them from a federal or state marketplace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Marketplace plans: <\/p>\n\n\n\n Every fall, there\u2019s an Open Enrollment for Marketplace plans, or a chance to enroll in a new plan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Marketplace plans also offer tax credits (\u201csubsidies\u201d) to lower the premium cost for people who qualify \u2013 and that\u2019s most people. According to the government<\/a>, 4 out of 5 people could find a plan for just $10\/month after subsidies in 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Open Enrollment period for marketplace plans runs November 1st \u2013 January 15th, with a caveat.
