It\u2019s June. Gateway month to summer vacations, special excursions, and just a whole lot of fun with family and friends. So, this month I am picking Android apps that I think could be timely and useful, especially if you\u2019re on the road: Groupon, WebMD and Kayak.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Groupon<\/a>: <\/strong>You might already know about Groupon, the popular online service that features a daily deal on doing, buying, seeing, and eating something special at a special discount. But did you know you can now add Groupon to your smartphone, ensuring you never miss out on any limited-time offers, especially from the road?  No matter where you are, if you want to eat something, have fun or get pampered, this Android app can help make it happen\u2014and at a discount, typically ranging from 50% to 90% off. The app is perfect for first-time trips to unfamiliar cities. The app even lets you know if there’s anything unusual about a deal, such as an inconvenient location. And it\u2019s incredibly easy to use. Just click the Buy button or the Deal Info button. That\u2019s right, you can buy deals directly from your phone, as well as manage all your targeted Groupon offers by location and expiration. Best of all, only you decide whether to take advantage of a Groupon discount or not. More than 100,000 customers have given this app a 4.6 rating on a 5.0 scale. Groupon is a free app and a valuable travel companion.<\/p>\n


\n\"\"<\/a>WebMD<\/a>: <\/strong>Another don\u2019t-leave-home-without-it smartphone app for Boomers and Seniors this summer is WebMD. This indispensable app gives you virtual 24×7 access to health information and decision-support tools. Take, for example, the pill checker option. It can identify just about any pill and relay vital information, such as potential interactions with other pills and side effects, to you. The symptom checker is also incredibly useful, especially if you (or a loved one) become ill during vacation, when you\u2019re away from your regular physician. You can even retrieve local health care listings in case you need to find a doctor.  As a bonus, the app gives you access to first aid information without having to be connected wirelessly, which is critical if you don\u2019t have Internet access at the time.  Visiting the Great Outdoors this summer? Don\u2019t forget to load WebMD on your smartphone. The medical advice given is, in the words of one reviewer, \u201cabsolutely accurate and spot on.\u201d The WebMD app is fast, easy-to-use, and free–with a 4.4 overall rating.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Kayak<\/a>: <\/strong>If boots are made for walking, the free Android app Kayak is made for travel. Kayak is a user-friendly smartphone app that can help you find everything you need for your next trip. You\u2019ll be able to save money and time by finding special deals on flights, hotels and car rentals. The real beauty is, those deals will result in cheaper prices than most commercially advertised deals. That\u2019s because the app\u2019s search engine retrieves pricing information from travel agencies and<\/span>from vendors’ own sites. Simply type in the city you\u2019re in and the one you wish to visit.<\/p>\n

Presto. Travel options appear like stars in a desert sky. You can check a flight status, even look up baggage fees or see the layout of the airport terminal where you will be arriving. Plus, the app\u2019s My Trips feature makes it easy for you to keep your itinerary at your fingertips. An excited user said it was \u201cOne of my favorite apps by a distance!\u201d Another said it\u2019s their first choice for the best trip info. The only thing better than this app, according to still another traveler, would be free luggage. Kayak has an average rating of 4.4.<\/p>\n
