Sometimes words don\u2019t say it all. Sometimes you need a little something extra to convey your message. That\u2019s why emoji, or emoticons (short for emotion icons), are great for adding emphasis\u2014or just a little fun\u2014to emails and text messages.<\/p>\n

Did you know iPhone users have access to several hundred free smileys, animals, shapes, and other emoji just by changing a few keyboard settings?<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how:<\/p>\n

  1. Open the Settings app.<\/li>\n
  2. Tap \u201cGeneral.\u201d<\/li>\n
  3. Tap \u201cKeyboard.\u201d<\/li>\n
  4. Tap \u201cKeyboards.\u201d<\/li>\n
  5. Tap \u201cAdd New Keyboard.\u201d<\/li>\n
  6. Tap \u201cEmoji.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    To use emoji in an email or text message:<\/p>\n

    1. Open the Messages or Mail app.<\/li>\n
    2. Tap the New Message icon to compose a new message.<\/li>\n
    3. Tap the smiley face icon (J) from the bottom row of the keyboard.<\/li>\n
    4. Select from five themes at the bottom of the screen and scroll through the various options by swiping your finger from right to left.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
