Here\u2019s a tip for all of our Android smartphone users. We all keep important, private information on our smartphones. Everything from text messages and email to calendars and to-do lists contain personal data that we wouldn’t want available to a phone thief or someone with malicious intent.<\/p>\n

Setting a customized lock screen with a PIN is a simple, effective way to deter unwanted individuals from accessing your phone.<\/p>\n

\"Android\"<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Go to the Settings menu.<\/li>\n
  2. Scroll down to \u201cSecurity\u201d or \u201cSecurity and Screen Lock\u201d and tap it. (This is typically located under the \u201cPersonal\u201d section.)<\/li>\n
  3. Under the \u201cScreen Security\u201d section, tap \u201cScreen Lock.\u201d By default, this option is set to \u201cSlide,\u201d which means no password or pattern is needed.<\/li>\n
  4. Select PIN.<\/li>\n
  5. Type a 4-digit PIN. (Note: For a stronger PIN, avoid repeating numbers\u2014don\u2019t use more than two). Tap \u201cContinue.\u201d Re-enter the PIN to confirm.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Be sure you know your Google account password before setting up your customized lock screen. This is important because if you ever forget your PIN, you\u2019ll be locked out after a number of incorrect attempts. If this occurs, your only option to access your phone is to use your Google password.<\/p>\n
