The month of April is known for several meaningful celebrations. I\u2019d like to talk about one of those celebrations because it\u2019s a special April recognition that\u2019s close to my heart: Earth Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Here at Consumer Cellular we don\u2019t just celebrate Earth once a year on April 22nd. We honor it daily, by defining and taking measures to reduce our carbon footprint.<\/p>\n

So, how do we do it?  We strive to be a green company across the board. For example, we retooled our shipping and manufacturing processes to make them more eco-friendly and I\u2019m pleased to report outstanding results. We recycle 95% of our shipping by-products and ship multiple phones in one box, thus reducing the number of boxes sent.<\/span><\/p>\n

We reduced plastic waste by implementing an EcoSim card, which is half the size of a standard SIM card. In addition, we worked closely with the USPS to create a custom shipping box that doesn\u2019t use plastic trays and is compact enough to minimize fuel costs in shipping.<\/span><\/p>\n

We also made green-friendly changes in our buildings, such as implementing a lighting system that automatically turns off lights when not needed. And we added more energy efficient lighting, even i<\/span>n our warehouses.<\/span><\/p>\n

We upgraded our computer servers to be more efficient and use less power. At our desks, we use eco-friendly computers, which consume far less power, and are 90% recyclable.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve dramatically reduced our paper consumption by redesigning our billing statements to use fewer pages and made billing details available online. Plus, we deliver invoices to many of our customer<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve already recycled over 33,000 phones. And we have a great onsite recycling program, which we manage ourselves instead of relying on a waste management company.<\/span>s via email.<\/span><\/p>\n

I could go on and probably will at some later date, thanks to the diligent efforts of our Green Team. This team of employees meets regularly to review our eco-friendly programs and to suggest new programs or processes.<\/span><\/p>\n

In thinking of how best to treat our planet, I\u2019m reminded of an old TV commercial slogan from the 1970s: \u201cIt\u2019s not nice to fool Mother Nature.\u201d It\u2019s also not nice to harm her.<\/span><\/p>\n
