Simple Steps to Home Phone Savings

More and more people are making the switch to cellular service from traditional, landline-based home phone service. There’s some great technology now that lets you keep your home phone number and enjoy the same comforts of your traditional home phone as part of your cellular account!

Consumer Cellular makes it easy to get the best of both worlds. You can convert your current home phone into an additional line on your cellular account using our ZTE Wireless Home Phone Base!

You get to keep your same phone number, and even your same phone (just plug it into the Home Phone Base and you’re up and running). But instead of being tethered to a physical “landline” phone, the ZTE Wireless Home Phone Base lets you receive calls to your home phone using cellular service.

This also means you can take it anywhere you go—any room in your house, or on a trip—and still receive calls made to your home phone number. You’re at home anywhere there is cellular service and an electrical outlet—and you’re no longer paying an extra phone bill! Plus, you’ll be sharing minutes from the existing Talk plan on your account, and any calls between phones on your account are free!

It’s simple to make the switch. Order the ZTE Wireless Home Phone Base online, or by calling customer support at (888) 345-5509. Just be sure to keep your existing home phone account open until after you’ve received the device, so your phone number stays active and can be transferred to our service. Then, simply plug in your handset, and enjoy the freedom of wireless home phone service. Make yourself at home everywhere you go!

But it still worked ok, old had network, new didn’t. button for activate now gone tho. called via old phone, tech was fixing put on hold, then call dropped. BUT then phone battery died completely (had been intermittent) and now can’t use old phone and still don’t have network on new!

Am very ill and alone. NEED PHONE ASAP PLEASE!!
have no access to other phone, only email. Wifi phone on new phone says I have to contact CC to set up! so that’s out even tho wifi ok.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Abbey. I’ve reviewed your account, and I’m so glad to see that we were able to speak with you yesterday and work with you to resolve this. 5. Phil says

I just now went online and noticed my account was past due. I am usually pretty careful about these type of issues. This time it slipped by me. My question is why can’t you notify customers by e-mail alert if their account does become overdue. It certainly can be quickly rectified.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Phil! We will reach out to you via a phone call or email if your account becomes quite overdue. I’m happy to pass your suggestion for an email billing reminder on to our management team. We always appreciate ideas shared by our customers! We appreciate you reaching out to us today, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  6. Joanne M says

To clarify in my mind – my current Consumer Cellular plan is 1500 minutes + text etc. If I buy the plan with 250 minutes for my current landline number, that is entirely separate from my cellular plan use? Since it plugs into an electrical outlet, if power goes out, so does that phone/service, correct? How will my current landline number get ‘ported’ to consumer cellular coverage from xfinity?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great questions, Joanne. If you add the Wireless Home Phone Base to your plan, you’ll share the minutes on your plan. If you’re using the 1,500 minute plan, you won’t need to make a change unless you find yourself needing more minutes. There is a battery backup in case of power outages, so you’ll be able to make and receive calls for a time without any power. If you want to transfer your current landline phone number, we’ll help you do that. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we can start the transfer for us. It’s helpful if you have an invoice handy so we can verify your account number and other information, and be sure to leave your account open until the transfer is complete. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have as well. Thank you for taking the time to post, and we look forward to speaking with you!

  7. Ken Hickson says

Seriously considering switching our home phone to Consumer Cellular. You previously stated there is a free vm option available. Is caller ID also available for the home phone service? What other options are available? I am already a Consumer Cellular customer so would be adding this service.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I’m happy to answer your questions, Ken. If you have a home phone that displays Caller ID or allows you to save contact numbers, those features will work with the Wireless Home Phone Base. You’ll have all of the same account features as your cellphone, and the Wireless Home Phone Base will share the minutes from your plan. If you would like to add this device to your plan, we’re happy to help you at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about it, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  8. Linda h says

I would like to come on board with a cell phone plan. Would I be able to keep my old cell phone number?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

You can indeed, Linda. First, you’ll need one a bill from your previous carrier on hand, as it contains information like your account number that we’ll need to start the transfer. Next, give us a call at 888-345-5509 or choose a plan and a phone on our website. We’ll start the transfer process for you. Just be sure to leave your previous account open until we can confirm that the transfer is complete. If you have any questions or you’re ready to get started, just give us a call. Thank you for taking the time to post, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  9. Ann says

Our landline consists of 3 phones, 1 in each of 3 rooms. How would this work?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Ann! You can use the Wireless Home Phone Base with a phone that uses one base and multiple cordless handsets. It sounds like that option would work well in your situation. If we can answer any other questions you may have or assist you in placing your order, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. We’re always happy to help! Thank you for taking the time to post today!

Wanting to switch home landline phone to CONSUMER CELLULAR from XFINITY. I am an AARP MEMBER. So question is how do I switch service to CONSUMER CELLULAR that is home landline? I don’t need ALL that EXTRA, just plain old phone caller id.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We can help you with that, Ezella. Before you get started, it’s helpful to have an invoice from your current home phone provider on hand. It will list your account number and other information that we’ll need for the number transfer process. Next, give us a call at 888-345-5509 or you can place an order via our website here. We’ll collect the information we need so that we can port the phone number over to our service. Once you receive your Wireless Home Phone Base, you’ll just need to plug the base into a power outlet, and connect your home phone to the base. That’s it! 12. Mary Ann says

With my previous cell phone provider calls to my family who also had the same cell provider were free.
Now my sister and I have Consumer Cellular and we are both charged minutes for calls to each other.
Isn’t that double charging for one phone call?
No wonder my minutes disappear so quickly, we talk frequently.
What can Consumer Cellular do for us?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us, Mary Ann. Calls made between lines on the same account are free of charge, but calls made to others use minutes from your plan. In general, you’ll use minutes from your plan whenever you place or receive a call. We’re happy to speak with you about your plan and see if there is a better fit for your needs. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we will be ready to assist you. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a great day!

      • Mary Ann says

I have also noticed that I am charged in minutes for retrieving my voice mail messages.
If I use my phone answering machine instead of your voice mail I will not be charged in minutes is that correct?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Mary Ann. Checking your voicemail from your device will use minutes from your plan. You can try using your answering machine, but please know that it may not be compatible with the Home Base system. If you choose to not use the voicemail provided with your service, you can plug your home answering machine into the Phone 2 port located on the back of the home base. Just make sure to set your machine to pick up in as few rings as possible, and we can help you with that at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post, and we hope you have a great day!

Hi,I’m a long term customer and I’ve had two ZTE boxes for the home phone line but I keep getting dropped calls. There is one green light then it goes red and I lose the call. I’ve tried everything like moving the unit nearer to a window and into another room. I have made numerous phone calls to Consumer Cellular to not avail. Is there a booster box that will help with this one?
Please let me know since I have shut if off but I would like to reactivate it by the end of September. Please email me back.
    Thanks, Debbie

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for reaching out to us, Debbie. I’ve reviewed your account, and it looks like we can try a new SIM card that may provide you with better coverage. Just give us a call at 888-345-5509 if you’re interested in trying this solution. We’ll get it on the way to you as soon as possible. We appreciate you posting, and we hope to speak with you soon!

  14. Ronnie says

If you have a home security system connected though you landline. I assume it will not be usable with the wireless home base system?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That is correct, Ronnie. The Wireless Home Phone Base is not designed to work with home security systems. If we can answer any other questions you may have, we’re happy to do so at 888-345-5509. Thanks for posting today!

  15. carol says

I have a kitchen phone, living room, bedroom and the base is in computer room. How will this work. carol

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Carol. You can use the Wireless Home Phone Base with a home phone that has one main base and multiple cordless handsets. This may be the most convenient option for you. We can answer any other questions you may have or help you place an order at 888-345-5509. Thank you again for taking the time to reach out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

  16. Wil Stiles says

My wife and I both share a plan with CC. If I purchase the home receiver and my home phone # to my plan , I will not be charged any more per month than my regular cell plan, is that correct?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I’m happy to answer that for you, Wil. If you add the Wireless Home Phone Base to your monthly plan, it counts as an additional line. You’ll see an additional $10 charge each month for the line, but you’ll share minutes with the other devices on your plan. If you have any other questions or would like to order yours, please feel free to call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us, and to learn more about this great home phone option.

  17. John B says

I would like to transfer my contacts from my Samsung Galaxy 4 to my Consumer Cellular Doro phone. How can I do this? Can I pull the Doro sym card and insert it into the Samsung and download my contacts, and then return the sym to my Doro. Then will the Doro be able to use those contacts?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

You should be able to do just that, John. You’ll want to export the contacts from your Galaxy to the SIM card that came with your Doro. Then use the Menu to open the Phone book, then select “Option” with your left soft key. Select “Copy all” then “OK”. You’ll see the option “from SIM”, so select OK, then “Yes” to transfer them all at once. If you run into any issues or need any help, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you posting today!

  18. ronald harris says

I have no cell service at home, will the home base unit work with my cc plan?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Ronald. Our Wireless Home Phone Base uses a cellular signal so that you can make and receive calls with a landline-style phone. If you aren’t able to get a good signal inside your home with your cellphone, this device may not be the right fit. We’re happy to review your local coverage and discuss this with you further at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post, and we hope you have a great day!

  19. JULIA CAMPBELL says

My old phone is a Samsung Galaxy S3. I just purchased the Galaxy J7. Is there anyway to forward my text messages from the Galaxy S3 to the Galaxy J7? Also, I would like to find out how to transfer my pictures from the Galaxy S3 to the Galaxy J7 if possible.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Congratulations on your new smartphone, Julia! There is a very useful app from Samsung that will help you transfer message, photos and contacts from your old device to your new one. You can download it here from the Play Store. Just follow the instructions on the screen, and you’ll be done in no time. If you run into any issues or have any questions as you’re getting to know your new phone, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. Thanks for posting, and we hope you have a great day!

At present, I have Centurylink internet service and phone on my landline. I have Consumer Cellular on my mobile phone. If I add my landline as a second line to Consumer Cellular, can I still receive internet service somehow? Is there a way to get internet service from Consumer Cellular?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for taking the time to post, Betty! We aren’t offering home internet service at this time, so if you transferred your home phone number to our service, you would still need an internet service provider. If you’re still interested in using our Wireless Home Phone Base, we can help you start the number transfer process at 888-345-5509, and answer any other questions you may have. We appreciate you posting, and we look forward to assisting you!

Since I have the ZTE my answering system is not giving me the proper answering as after two rings it goes into the answering and doesn’t receive a message for me to know who is calling me and my system is set up with my own message for people that I am not ready to answer the phone. Why is it that it goes into answering after two rings and I miss very important messages plus my doctor calls. I am very unhappy that I miss these calls.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Raymond. If you like, we can see if the ring time can be extended on your device. This may resolve the issue you’re experiencing with your answering system. Please keep in mind that this device was designed to work with our voicemail system which is included with your account. Please give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we’ll be happy to work with you to find the best resolution for this issue. We appreciate your patience, and we look forward to speaking with you!

  22. Jerry L Storm says

I have started using the ZTE phone base yesterday, and there is one problem. At different places on the internet, it states that as long as your home phone was designed to display caller ID it should do so when hooked to the new phone base. In our case it displays the phone number only. We get so many calls from unknown sources that display all sorts of area codes. Short of compiling a large list of phone numbers of family and friends to go through every time the phone rings, we have to answer everyone calling from anywhere, with scams et all. I have called Consumer Cellular and have been told they can do nothing about it. If another brand of phone would work, I would do that, otherwise I guess I will have to go back to my old service.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Jerry. Many of our customers have tried a home phone in which you can save contacts, which helps them identify who is calling. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509, so please don’t hesitate to call us again. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

  23. Sharon says

I have had a home phone through AT&T Uverse and a separate iPhone through Verizon Wireless for many years. Is it possible to port both phones to Consumer Cellular but keep each phone number? In other words, someone who dialed my home phone number would get through to me at home or leave a voicemail and someone who dialed my cell number would get through to me on my cell or leave a voicemail? I don’t mind if they dial either number and get through to me on both systems. I would just like to keep both numbers, since I’ve had them for decades.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Those are great questions, Sharon, and we have a solution that sounds like it work well for you! First of all, we can help you port both phone numbers to our service. You’ll just want to make sure the accounts remain open until we can confirm that the numbers have been switched to Consumer Cellular. As for the individual devices we offer, you can use our Wireless Home Phone Base with the home phone you already have. To learn more, visit our website here. The two lines would remain separate, but each have their own voicemail system so that people can leave you messages. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509 at your convenience. Thanks for taking the time to learn more about us, and we hope to see you as a customer soon!

  24. Joe says

Just got zte home base, calls work great, however, the caller ID does not identify the caller name only number. Called support and have no answer. Just try another phone, but couldn’t give me a list of what phone works. My current att phone worked on Verizon (landline) fine. Very disappointed that they don’t even have a acceptable list.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for posting, Joe. There are a variety of home phone options out there that work well with our Wireless Home Phone Base, so it really depends on what features you prefer. Some home phones allow you to program certain contacts that can be saved within the device. This will help you see who is calling if you’re looking to identify incoming callers. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509 if you like. We appreciate your feedback, and we hope you have a lovely day!

  25. Allen says

Some land line phones have a built-in call blocking feature. As I understand it, it’s a caller’s number that is selected for blocking (as opposed to a caller’s name). Of course, unwanted callers can hide or spoof their true number. But on the other hand, we don’t have to answer an unknown number. The question is: Will a home phone (with a built-in call blocking feature) continue to block selected numbers If converted to a Consumer Cellular wireless home phone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thanks for asking, Allen! It would really depend on the home phone, but if call blocking is offered on the device, it may work with the home phone base. We appreciate you posting!

  26. Marita says

Have had Consumer Cellular for more then two years. Have home phone connected to base. Answering machine worked until a month ago. I can hear answering machine pick up in house but the caller hears answering machine is not set up. Have tried new phone with new answering machine, does the same thing.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Marita. I was able to take a look at your account, and I see that Nick, our account advisor, was able to assist you with this issue. If we can be of any further help, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. We’re so glad to see that the issue was able to be resolved, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  27. James Reece says

Is it possible to port my home landline number to a second cellphone on my Consumer Cellular account?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, James! We should be able to port your number pretty easily. Just be sure to keep the account open until we’ve confirmed the switch has been made. To get started, just add a line to your account, and select the option to transfer an existing number. If you like, we can walk you through it at 888-345-5509. It’s a good idea to have an invoice from your landline company on hand, so we can make sure all of the account information needed is accurate. Thanks for posting, and we look forward to assisting you!

  28. James Reece says

I see that Consumer Cellular sells the Samsung S9 phone. Is this the same as the S9 on Samsung’s site (factory unlocked universal)? Or is this just a GSM unlocked phone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, James. We do sell the same model Samsung S9, though ours is designed to work with our service. We’re happy to discuss this with you further if you like at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you reaching out to us today!

  29. Dennis wickstrom says

Can I have a consumercellular phone and a landline from mediacom with the same number as long as I pay for both services

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Dennis. You can only use one phone number per device, so your Consumer Cellular phone and landline can’t share the same number. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting, and we hope you have a great day!

  30. ScottD says

Re: transferring my existing Landline # to a Home Base. My landline is provided by my broadband cable service (VOIP). I’m also having some upgrades done to my broadband, and I’d like to wait on the landline port until those upgrades are done. Can I get some assurance that the port won’t happen til I am ready,?
    Thanks

    • Hi ScottD, thanks for your interest! If you’re planning on some updates and want to wait on those to be finished before transferring, I’d recommend waiting until those are done to order the service for the new line. This way we can ensure you’re not being billed for a line that you aren’t ready to use.

  31. ScottD says

Also — As my landline is provided by my broadband cable service (VOIP) I don’t know what account info you’d need to do the port of my landline #.
Can you give me a clue?

    Thanks

    • HI ScottD, thanks for your question! The information that we will need are the current account number, PIN number if there is one, billing address, and the account holder’s first and last name to submit to your current provider so that they will release the number to us so we would recommend having a bill readily available for this process.

  32. Barbara McAllister says

I already have an account with ConsumerCellular for my cell phone.

I’m wanting to get a landline phone for my home. Can you provide
that service? If so, what is the charge?
    Thanks.

    • Hi Barbara, thanks for your questions! We do have the ZTE Home Base which would allow you to connect a landline handset to it, we don’t have a handset for it, it’s just the base that we offer. You can then connect it to your account as an additional line to your account that would share your plan and would cost $15 a month plus tax.
