Now More Talk, Texts, and Data For the Same Low Price

We talk a lot about Consumer Cellular’s low prices and unmatched value. I’m happy to say that, for the tenth year in a row, we’re taking real action to back up those words. Effective February 1, we’re once again making changes to our monthly Talk and Connect Plans that provide you with more minutes, texts, and data without raising our prices by a single penny.

Instead, as the chart included here shows, we’re making unlimited minutes available on Talk Plans for just $30 a month. This allows us to eliminate our $40 and $50 monthly cellphone plans. Customers who had these will still receive unlimited minutes, but will actually see their monthly bill go down!

On our Connect Plans, unlimited texting will now be available for $10 a month, plus we’re offering more data as well. Our largest package will now provide 5GB of high-speed data for only $40 a month—a full 1GB extra with absolutely no change in price.

If your current cellphone plan is affected by these changes, it will be upgraded automatically. You’ll see the new minutes, texts, or data available reflected on your account information online, and on your upcoming invoice. And remember, here’s another Consumer Cellular benefit—if you’d like to change to one of the upgraded plans from your current one, you can do so at any time, with no fee.

We’re proud that, once again, we can give you more without raising prices. You’ve rewarded us with your loyalty, and this is just one small way we’re trying to return the favor.

    It would be nice to up the data plans. Ex. Mine is 500mb per month so maybe offer 1GB for same price. Unlimited texts do nothing for me.

        Your 5GB data plan is still pretty far behind most of the other providers who offer plans in excess of 10GB. I travel a lot and use the data I have available quite quickly when using my laptop connected to my mobile hotspot. Does Consumer Cellular have any plans to increase your 5GB data plan?

            I know you’ve recently added an extra GB to data plan. But would also like to see it go up more 10GB unlimited option as well. My husband has to use data for his job and we’re having to have go through another company on another phone for him to have more data it’s just a pain when we could be paying one bill instead of two bills. Cellphone companies are now having unlimited data come back and it would just be great to have more than 5 GB to share between two people.

          I tried Cricket Wireless before Consumer Cellular with Cricket every call dropped. The service was awful, even the customer service! That’s why I stay with Consumer Cellular. My phone never dropped the call and customer service is wonderful!

    I hate paying my bills at the first of the month cause most company’s customer service is terrible, or I feel I’m getting ripped off and not getting any value for my money. But not you guys.     Thanks for the increases but like someone else said, is lower tier folks would like some relief also. I couldn’t use a fraction of my old text plan so unlimited texts aren’t much help, but I constantly have to watch my data and talk while still staying within my budget. Still CC is the next deal around.

    I use my home landline and home wifi for most of my phone, web needs. I was hopefull after reading about your upcoming changes taking place February 1, that you would upgrade your offerings for your limited budget clients that use their cell phones on a very limited basis. I have been with CC since 2012 and appreciate that you always have been geared toward clients like me that use their phone on a limited basis. It would have been great if you would have raised your 250 talk level up to 400 or 500 minutes for the same price.

      I agree with Brent & all the others on “fixed” income trying to stay within a budget. First, thanks for the ever increasing product services you give, at “no” cost to us customers! I’m sure it has helped many! In the very near future, please consider a review for “increase” to the customers in the lower-level plan, for example; I have 250 talk, 300 texts, 30mb
      Please consider an increase to: 500 talk; 500 texts; 100 mb ? (of course , at the same cost of $17.50)

      The (next) upgrade to what I currently have is really a much”Bigger” plan : 1500 talk, 2,000 texts, 200mb (of services) at a subtotal of $25 mo., I’m already paying more than half of the cost (next upgrade)…..yet, I’m barely getting a fraction of its’ services! I don’t need all the thousands of talk or text and I want to stay below $20 for my cost….and i’m sure in a review of all the comments/compliments , you’ll find that the increased (services @ no add’l cost) that I’m requesting will be well received & appreciated by all in the lower level plan…..and certain to attract many NEW customers, as well!     When will you address the middle.

    Your $20 – should have been 3GB
    Your $30 – should have been 4GB
    Your $40 – should have been 5GB

    We really like Consumer Cellular for price as well as your great customer service. Our plan works great since I text and my husband talks. We would love to see an increase in the data plan so I could use my mobile hotspot more. I save my time for internet usage when we have to stay with my mother-in-law. The hotspot works great (better than my WiFi in my home) but streaming videos really uses up my time quickly.

    Why is it that us less fortunate ones who can’t afford the higher plans get nothing? I have had Consumer Cellular service near since it started, am I less deserving than others? Also I agree with most of the others, more text’s does nothing for me. More data would be more useful to me but since I got nothing it really doesn’t matter.

    We have only had consumer Cellular for about six months, but we love it. We have service places that I had no service with Verizon and for a fraction the cost. Only problem, we go two weeks every year to Canada, and l wish you would offer some sort of plan that we could stay in touch with family

    I agree with most other posters. Don’t need more text or talk, even with 5 lines. More data at same rate would be helpful. Yes I know that we can now buy more data, but I don’t want to pay more to get more data. The lower data plans should have gotten a boost in data at not additional cost. Maybe you could give us an option to choose more talk or more data?

    I have a consumer cellular wifi device and 2 phones 5 gigs is never enough data for me and my wife. So I have had to get a Boost mobile wi fi device with 10 gigs of data for $50.00 per month. I wish you would offer a larger data plan for those of us who have to use wireless wifi for our home internet service.

    With so many asking for data increases over text increases, I thought I should pipe up and say that I would love more texting and less data. I share a plan with my mom, who loves texting but rarely talks. We both have the flip phone, so using the web is almost impossible due to screen size and lack of other features that smart phones have. So data is minimally used, as it seems we use some when texting pictures but otherwise don’t. I talk much more than my mom, as my cell is my only phone while she still has a landline. So we need talk and text to be at a certain level, but feel we are wasting some money on all that unused data. It would be lovely if text and data were separate, or at least if there were some plan better suited to users with flip phones for whom internet is impractical and therefore so is large amounts of data.

    Auto-Upgrading is a great idea and really offers convenience and peace of mind to Consumer Cellular customers.

    May I suggest that you implement the reverse also? That is, if at the end of the billing period, I haven’t used all of my minutes/texts/data that I’m entitled to and could actually fit into a lower priced plan, do that automatically as well.

In addition to your monthly plan, you would see charges for your taxes, which are determined by your local government, and any international call charges or 411 fees. As for your data plan, we always recommend connecting to Wi-Fi as much as possible. Streaming videos or Netflix can use a lot of data very quickly. You might find this blog here to be a good resource as you’re deciding which plan is the best fit.     I kinda feel like you service is of the early days, there have been drop calls and other people call me and ask me to relocate by a window or outside to be heard better. I live in Tempe,Az. Not a small little town. Is there any way to improve the quality of service? For a few dollars more I could go back to the carrier I had and not worry where I answer my phone!

If you add your android phone to your account, you will see an additional $10 added to your monthly bill for that line.     I am so glad we switched to CC. With the recent heavy rains and high winds all of our neighbors phone service with Verizon is terrible quality or none at all. We we told years ago that our area had some of the oldest buried phone lines and there wasn’t a whole lot to do about it. Every time it rained, there was so much noise on the line – ridiculous. They all ask, how come you have phone when we don’t? HELLO – We have Consumer Cellular – very, very happy customer and always recommend! Thanks

    I would like to see the 250 minutes increased to 500 for the same price. There is quite a large gap from 250 to 1000 (and now 1500) minutes. That would help a lot of us be able to stay with the cheaper plan if there 500 minutes. Happy with the service though, and still less expensive than some other companies.

        Hi Ashley, I just read Sharon’s question about the large gap between the 250 min talk plan and the 1500 min plan. I certainly would have to agree with her on that point. I think if you offered a plan at 750 min/mth at a price of $17.50, you would have customers waiting in line to take you up on that plan offering. CC is, by the way, what I consider to be one of the best Cell providers out there. Keep up the good work .

    I love Consumer Cellular. I’ve been a customer for several years. I currently have the family plan with several of my grandchildren on my plan. I would like to add another line, but we’re at the maximum number of lines allowed. Hopefully they will offer a plan with an option for more lines on the plan.     I love CC and your customer service is top notch! CC proves US companies can compete and still hire Americans for phone support! I also would appreciate more options for data limits. In addition, your automatic upgrade feature is great but should trigger only after cost of additional minutes/texts/data exceeds the upgrade charges. (10 minutes of talk time overage at $0.23/min. would not cause an upgrade.) An automatic downgrade feature would also be great in lieu of customers having to log in and manually change it. Keep up the great work and thank you for keeping Americans employed!

    I love Consumer Cellular ,my husband got us started and we never had any problems with dropped calls, loosing a tower or even the tin roof on our house interfering with the signal. I love that I can add or subtract on my plan and my wi-fi device has been the best internet connection I have ever had for the price. I have been trying to get some of my friends to switch, but even though none have switched I will keep on trying.

    I am thinking of changing carriers. The 5 gb of shared data seems a little low. I do use w-ifi, but I do travel to areas where I need data and there is no way to get wi-fi. I have heard conflicting reports about your data. Do you turn the data off completely after the 5 gb. is reached, or do you charge for additional data. If so, what is the charge.
    When there is more than one number on an account it would be helpful to have a way of adding data (ie when you place an additional line on your account additional data could be added also.

      I’m happy to provide some additional information regarding our text and data plans, Robert. Our largest Connect plan features unlimited messages and 5GB of data. Once you have exceeded the 5GB maximum, you will be billed an additional $10 for each extra GB used. You may also experience slower data speeds after 5GB of use. The maximum amount of data available in any billing cycle is 12GB. If you reach this amount, your data use will be suspended until the next billing cycle starts. We understand that at times, you may need a little more data, so we’ve found this to be a great option for our customers.     I love Consumer Cellular but their plans are just ‘off’ for me. I use the 200MB, 2000 text plan, but that’s only because I usually go just over 30 mb of data. If it was upped to 50mb, I could most likely stay on the lower plan. I’m one of those phone users who uses the phone only when away from the house, texts with only family members and really don’t use the phone as a phone all that much! But data? For some reason, the phone just uses it! I rarely do anything without being connected to Wifi.

    Sadly you’ve raised the plan rates to your most sensitive customers, primary phone with limited data needs. Was hoping CC wasn’t aspiring to be like all the rest of the cellular guys. Your plan rates now afford little to no advantage to many other plans. Maybe reassess your programs specific to seniors who simply want to make calls to family & friends for a few hours each month. 250 is too low.

    Hi CC,

    We have multiple phones sharing our pooled data, texts, and minutes. Unfortunately we use just a bit more than the 5gb of data each month. It’s very VERY frustrating how CC’s data plans are basically shut off (completely unusable) when we exceed 5GB. I’m willing to buy more data, but the only way CC will do it (so the phone rep tells me) is I have to break my family’s devices into 2 separate pools, Each limited to 5GB. This is very cost ineffective and difficult to manage. The problem is, it is then very difficult to manage who goes in which pool and how to divide the devices and data into the different pools, etc. Why not just people like us buy a larger pool, or additional blocks of data at the same price per byte/GB as the existing plan/pool? For example, the first 5Gb is $40, so why not allow us to add an additional 1 Gb for $8 each. It is up to you guys if that needs to be purchased in advanced or as needed as you exceed your allotment. Either way we get what we need and don’t get slowed down so bad nothing works for he rest of the month/billing cycle.

    I mean hey, I understand (sorta) if you don’t want to offer an unlimited package, but at least let us buy what we need/use. Currently our option is either to lose our internet functionally for about 7 to 10 days each month when we exceed our 5Gb allotment , or we are forced to split our devices into multiple pools and thus pay a lot more (basically double) for service and even then it’s super difficult to manage. In the end, it then becomes cheaper and easier to work with a different cellular provider, and that would not be our preference.

    I just came over from Verizon. I’ve already found that the signal is weaker. Verizon had the “message plus” that allowed text messaging through Wi-Fi when the signal was lost. Is there some way to do that with CC?

    • Hi Mike, thanks for your question. Depending on the device you’re using, there may be an app available that can send and receive messages over Wi-Fi when the signal is low. Unfortunately, we don’t currently offer a messaging feature like you described, but we do offer Wi-Fi calling on compatible devices.     I just wanted to say than you to everyone including my local target everyone was so helpful my husband passed in November 2018 after a long and stressful hospital stay right in a very crucial time my phone was being used in excess and I kept thinking they were going to cut me off but didn’t and then I was having trouble with the phone its self and target helped me in as little as 10 minutes thank you for all your help
