Introducing the Samsung Galaxy S Relay

Do you still like to let your fingers do the walking? Do you prefer to feel the keys when you text on your smartphone? If so, I have some very good news to share. I’m pleased to tell you about our newest smartphone offering, the Samsung Galaxy S Relay.

The Galaxy Relay comes with a vibrant 4.0” touchscreen display, making it perfect for web browsing and picture-taking. Plus, among its many other desirable features, this Android smartphone includes a spacious slide-out QWERTY keyboard, making it easier for you to type and text.

The Relay’s responsive keyboard has a full five rows, including a dedicated number row. And the rows are wide with completely separated keys. Unlike with a touchscreen keyboard, you can actually feel each character as you type it, which is closer to how many of us learned to type in the first place.

True to its name, the device “relays” voices clearly, delivering some of the best call quality available. Its speakerphone also projects loud and clear voices. If you’d like to take pictures as well as type and talk, the Relay can help you there, too. It comes with a 5.0 megapixel rear-facing camera and camcorder for capturing moments, and a front-facing camera for video chats.

The Relay delivers a full complement of smartphone features, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS. Whether you’re talking or typing, running apps or multi-tasking, the Relay’s dual-core processor has enough power to get the job done.

Because it’s an Android device, you will have over one million apps to choose from, enabling you to enhance and personalize the device to your heart’s content. Out of the box, you get 8GB onboard storage to save your apps and files. Not enough? The device supports up to 32GB expandable memory on a microSD card, if you need more room.

More and more of our customers are texting these days. If you’re one who likes to text, consider the Samsung Galaxy S Relay. This smartphone carries a one-two punch. And for only $150, it punches well above its weight class.

Thank you for this opportunity. My husband & I are new to Consumer Cellular; we just responded to an AARP ad April 23rd and bought C.C. phones at Sears. We are happy to have the AARP trial period of 45 days. I can tell you that I am making too many mistakes with the keyboard and would really like your S Relay phone instead – I’m guessing the raised keys will eliminate the errors in typing. (I do like the ‘voice’ feature – but there too, the text comes out misspelled and I have to go back and correct the Voice Text with the Keyboard – very time consuming). How do I return my Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate (erasing all my apps and contacts too) and get the Galaxy S Relay (as these were not in Sears on 4/23) ? Thank you.

The Samsung Galaxy S Relay is a great phone. I’ve only had it a few days but it is awesome.

  6. Ruth Althauser says

I wish you had come out with this Samsung Galaxy S Relay long ago. I struggled to find a phone with a slide-out Qwerty keyboard and finally had to buy an At&t unlocked phone through Walmart. Consequently it has all the At&t applications and junk that I have to contend with. I would much rather have purchased your phone but now cannot afford to buy another one so am stuck with the At&t phone. You are just a little too late on this one.
    Sincerely
    A. Ruth Althauser

  7. Pam Eaton says

Bought my “relay” and I love it. I can text faster with the qwerty keyboard, than looking for the right key to hit. Stops me from making mistakes. A great phone.

  8. Brandy Joe says

Will you ever think about getting Samsung Galaxy s3,4,5 because i have a daughter and we share the same plan and she’s not really into this stuff. Its a great phone for me but she’s in high school, I know there is iPhone, but she’s more into bigger phones instead of small and thin.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, Brandy. We are always trying to update our phone models and options, which change multiple times a year. We also have the SIM card option, so you could purchase one of the larger phones unlocked and use it with our service. Just make sure to check with our Customer Service team, and they can help you pick the right one. Thank you again for the comments!

  9. JR says

    Is this a 4g phone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, JR. The Samsung Galaxy S Relay is an HSPA+ capable phone.

  10. Bill Shultz says

This is a great phone, best one I’ve ever had in the many years I’ve been using cell phones. My wife only has one problem with it as follows.
Is there a spell checker for the qwerty keyboard or a way to turn on the spell checker or, is there a spell checker app for the Relay? English is not her first language and she likes to text. A spell checker would really come in handy,

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the comment, Bill. We’re glad to hear you like the Relay! If you go to Settings>Language and Keyboard, you can generally find a “Correct misspelled words” option. If you have any issues, please give our customer service team a call at (888) 345-5509, and they will be happy to walk you through it. Thank you!

  12. jessica says

do you have to have a sim card to use the galaxy relay phone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Jessica. All of our phones come with a SIM card, including the Galaxy S Relay. If you have any questions about SIM cards, please feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we would be happy to assist you. Thank you!

  13. Del says

I am seriously considering buying the Samsung Galaxy S Relay. One son says buy it, the other son says don’t buy it. If I am not happy with the Samsung Galaxy S Relay, what is the return policy?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Good question, Del. Our phones are subject to our risk-free guarantee. That means that you have 30 days, 300 minutes, 300 texts or 300MB of data, whichever comes first. If during that period you dislike your phone for any reason, you can return it. If you have any questions or if you would like to get that Relay on order, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thanks!

Any samsung galaxy 4 or 5 yet? I bought a sam rugby smart (from you, sorry to say), and i HATE it! It’s painfully s l o w. but it’s the ONLY part of CC I Don’t like. I hate to buy from ebay, but I guess I will if you don’t plan to add them soon.
        Thanks!

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Marg. At this time, we don’t have any additional Samsung devices. If we do add any to our lineup, we will be sure to let you know via the blog or our other social media channels. Thank you again for taking the time to ask!

  14. Marilyn says

My Samsung Galaxy S Relay is doing updates using data at 12:00 pm 6:00 am and 6:00 pm (it is connected to WiFi at these times). This uses most of my battery life. What is updating and is it possible to turn the updates off?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Marilyn. This is a common question, so we appreciate you posting it! Your phone will need to update apps periodically, and may access data even when you are connected to Wi-Fi to do so. Our data is reported by the tower in batches, so the time stamps don’t necessarily correlate to when the updates occurred. You can turn off background data, which will stop the automatic updates and conserve your battery. To do this with your Samsung Relay, open your Settings app, then select Data Usage. From there, select the Options menu (the bottom left corner button on your phone), and check the box for “Restrict Background Data”. If you run into any problems, please feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we would be happy to walk through it with you. Thank you again for commenting!

  15. Ellen says

We both share a plan with you and I’m ready to move up from my Samsung I577. I like the Huawai Ascent Mate but I’ve been waiting for it to at least be able to be upgraded to the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) None of your other Android O.S phones offered have Lollipop. How much longer will I have to wait before I can upgrade my phone to one with the Android 5.0. It makes no sense to invest in a phone whose OS is already outdated. Help?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Ellen. We do offer two Android smartphones that have the Lollipop operating system. Our brand new Moto E LTE comes with the Lollipop OS standard, and the Moto G EXT now has the update available. Each of these are an affordable option with many desirable features. Both of these devices are available at your local Target or Sears store, as well as on our website. You can also order over the phone at 888-345-5509, whichever option works best for you. Thank you once again for commenting!

  16. Ed says

Is the Samsung Galaxy S Relay still being manufactured?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Ed. This phone is still available with our service, and is fully supported. It is available on our site here, or you can order one over the phone through our contact center. If we can answer any questions for you about the Relay, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. Thank you again for taking the time to reach out to us today!

  17. Eleanor Bolen says

The Customer Service sent a link for the manual for the Samsung Galaxy Relay, but the link did not work.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re sorry about that, Eleanor. You can find the manual here, on our Videos and Manuals page. If we can help you with anything else at this time, please feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. We’ll be happy to assist! Thank you for commenting, and we hope you have a great day!

  18. V Smith says

I was about to purchase this phone after looking through some reviews, and I see it is no longer offered here! It was online last week. Is this no longer an option for Consumer Cellular? I am very disappointed, as I have been looking for a physical QWERTY keyboard, which is hard to come by these days.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We apologize for any inconvenience, Valerie. We don’t have the Samsung Relay available through our site any longer, but we may have some carrier returns that you can purchase. Please give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we’ll be happy to help you find the right phone for you. Again, we apologize, and we appreciate you taking the time to post.

  19. Danielle says

I bought this phone a little less than a year ago and have enjoyed using it, but recently I have tried to install a couple of different apps from the Play Store, and each time I get a message that the version of the app is not compatible with the device. I have tried a few different things to remedy this but nothing has worked. I am wondering if the version of Android (4.1.2) is too outdated and if so can it be upgraded?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Danielle. Some apps available in the Play Store may require a different operating system or more storage space on your phone. You can try to create more space by removing any apps that you aren’t using or by backing up your photos. As for the operating system, those updates are provided by the manufacturer, and unfortunately, we don’t always know when they may be made available to our customers. You can look at the “Additional Information” section of each app when you’re viewing it in the Play Store to see what version of the Android system is required. If we can assist you with anything further, we’re happy to do so at 888-345-5509. Thank you for commenting, and we hope you have a great day!

  20. Marilyn says

I am trying to sync my calendar from my Samsung Galaxy S Relay to my Google account. Is this possible? Thanks.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Marilyn. You may have better luck using the Google Calendar app, which you can find in the Play Store here. That way, you only have to make additions once, and you can share appointments and reminders with friends and family. Thank you for asking!

  21. Annie says

Hello! I’m interested in this phone, do you have it available anymore?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re sorry, Annie, but we don’t have this option available anymore. We do have many other affordable Android phones that may be a good fit for your needs. You can take a look at our full lineup here. If you give us a call at 888-345-5509, we’re happy to talk with you about the features you want and make a recommendation. Thank you for checking, and let us know which phone you end up with!

  22. Annie says

Unfortunately none of those phones have a slide out QWERTY keyboard which is the feature of this phone that appeals to me.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We do apologize, Annie. If you find another device with a slide out keyboard to your liking, an unlocked GSM version will probably work well with our SIM card That way you can enjoy our award winning service, and have the perfect phone for your needs. We’re happy to get you started at 888-345-5509, or you can find our SIM card at your local Target or Sears store. Thank you for reaching out to us!
