Happy Birthday, Usage Alerts!

Consumer Cellular’s Usage Alerts Program Saved Customers $12 Million in Just Two Years:

When discussing our company, I often talk about the dual benefits of simplicity and affordability. However, there is a third benefit that often goes unnoticed and it is, perhaps, the true driving force behind Consumer Cellular. In fact, if I could use one word to describe our service that word would be “flexibility.” And nowhere does this flexibility “flex” its muscles more than in our free Usage Alerts program, which, I’m happy to say, is two years old this month.

So, how’d this service do in its first two years? To find out, we recently completed an analysis of our Usage Alerts program and the results surprised even me.

First, the bottom line: Usage Alerts saved our customers $12,612,091 in potential overage fees! That’s because whenever customers are warned about approaching their plan’s limit, we recommend they upgrade to a different plan to avoid unnecessary overage fees—and we make it very easy for them to do so.

Plus, if their increased usage is temporary, they’re free to return to their previous plan without any penalties or fees.

Although customers may opt out of receiving these automated alerts at any time, 99.8% of our customers have Usage Alerts enabled.

Flexibility is important in how we live our lives. Tomorrow will be different than today and who knows what will happen in our lives a month from now? It’s not just comforting to have flexible options, it’s important. And it’s also a key reason why we offer no-contract cell phone plans. We like our customers to be in control of their cell phone usage, not the other way around.

The truth is, as much as we might crave or wish for consistency in our lives, life is a moving target and things happen. People become suddenly ill, others move far away, still others give birth to children or grandchildren.

And when that happens, you can rely on Consumer Cellular to help you keep in touch with loved ones. You won’t have to worry about receiving a humongous bill for exceeding your cellular plan, either.

Usage Alerts are free, practical, convenient, and flexible. More importantly, they can save you money.

Not bad for a two-year-old.

    Dear John Marick,

Marcia and I joined the Consumer Cellular family in early January, 2012.

On February 28th, 2012, our “day” changed just as you mentioned above. We were called by a daughter-in-law to inform us that our 3-year-old Addison had just been diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastc Leukemia). They were to take her to a Children's Hospital and asked us to come stay with 8-month-old Mason and their two dogs.

That visit lasted for 4 nights and 5 days. We were blowing our minutes plan out of the sky. Customer Service recommended we change our SHARE plan to two single plans giving us a larger total minutes per phone. This was done instantly and without any fees.

Weekly visits will continue perhaps until September as will the increase in phone usage.

Consumer Cellular is our ONLY phone company, and we are glad to be among their satisified customers!

Thanks for creating one of the most stylish blogs I have come across in a long time! It's truly incredible how much you are able to take away from something simply because of how aesthetically gorgeous it is. You've created a fantastic site!
