I already have your service, my phone is five years old, how much would it cost to upgrade.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Marilyn. I see that you are currently using our Motorola W259, a feature phone. If you like the ease of use of that model, our Doro PhoneEasy 626 or our Consumer Cellular Envoy would be a great fit. The Envoy is available at your local Target or Sears store for just $35! All you need to do is purchase the phone and give us a call. We’ll take care of the rest! Thank you again for posting, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

I have verizon iphone 7 plus and wish to move From verizon to consumer cellular
        Do you have iphone 8plus?
        Monthly cost
Is there trade in vakue of 7 plus?

        • Nicole at Consumer Cellular says

Hi Jdonahue, thank you for posting! We do have the Apple iPhone 8 Plus available with our service but it is currently out of stock. When we have more available, you can find it here. We don’t have a trade-in program available, so we would not be able to accept the Apple iPhone 7 Plus for the Apple iPhone 8 Plus. Additionally, the monthly service cost is based on the plans you choose, which can be found here.

If your Apple iPhone 7 Plus is unlocked and GSM-compatible, then you might be able to use it with our service. We can’t guarantee compatibility, but we generally have good experiences with iPhones.

          • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Louria. If you purchase one of our devices from your local Target store, you can activate it yourself at home, or they can complete your activation there in the store. Just choose the option that works best for you! We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have over the phone at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to post, and we hope you have a great day!

  2. Bob engler says

When will you support the Samsung phones?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Bob. We are happy to support most unlocked, GSM versions of Samsung phones. They are often a great fit for our SIM cards, and many of our customers report that they’ve had a positive experience using them with our service. We can’t guarantee that our SIM card will work with every phone, but we’re happy to give it a try! Our SIM cards are available at Target or Sears, and best of all, we’ll give you a $10 credit on your first invoice so the SIM card is free! If you have any questions about using a specific Samsung device, feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. We’re happy to help!

      • Zed says

I think what he meant is when will you sell the newest and most powerful Samsung phones on your website? Does Consumer Cellular have some sort of exclusive contract with Apple?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Zed! We are an authorized Apple retailer, which is why we’re able to offer the iPhone on our site and in our Target retail locations. At this time, we don’t have Samsung phones available, but with our SIM cards, you can purchase many Samsung models from the manufacturer and use them with our service. Just be sure to check that you’ve selected the GSM version and that it is unlocked. In most cases, it’s as simple as activating your SIM card and putting it in your phone. That way, you can have the phone you want with our award winning service. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have at 888-345-5509 if you like. Our goal is to make our service as simple and easy to use as possible, and our SIM cards are another way we’re doing just that for our customers. We appreciate you taking the time to comment today!

How can I get a phone with a higher level of volume, hearing and speaker.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s a great question, Vernette. We offer a variety of phones to meet the diverse needs of our customers. It sounds like the Doro PhoneEasy 626 would be a good fit for you. This popular feature phone has a loud speaker, and works well for those who are hard of hearing or need a higher level of volume. You can find it at your local Target or Sears store, and you can learn more about it on our Phone Detail page here. Best of all, it is priced at only $50! We appreciate you taking the time to post today, and we hope the Doro is a good match for your needs!

If I terminate my cell phone service with CC how long should it take to receive an unlock code for my phone from CC?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Allan. We’re sorry to hear that you are thinking about leaving our service. If there are any issues we can address, we would be happy to take a look at your account. As for your phone, we will provide the unlock code on request as long as the device is paid for, and there is no remaining balance on an EasyPay plan. We appreciate you taking the time to comment today!

  6. patricia joseph says

a friend gave me this cell. I received 3 calls; but don’t know how to hear them. Could you kindly give me an explanation of all the buttons except the numbers. Don’t know what the red and green symbols mean or the dots next to them. Otherwise this is not going to work for me. i hit a button and ended up talking with the roommate of the friend who gave me the cell. HELP

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Patricia! Every phone is different, so some buttons or keys may function differently. The green button usually signals the call function. In most cases, you would dial the number, then press the green button. That will place the call. You can also press the green button to answer when someone is calling you. The red button is used to end the call or cancel an action. When you’re done speaking to someone, you always want to press the red button to end the call, which will stop the phone from using minutes from your plan. If you can remove the back cover of your phone, the name and model number can often be located by the battery, which may help us determine which phone you are using. And please remember, we’re always available to assist you over the phone at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting, and we hope you enjoy your new phone!

  7. Bruce Neild says

I have the WX345 phone with FM radio. Do any of your flip phones have FM?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Bruce! Many of our customers enjoy listening to the radio on their phone, which is why our popular Doro PhoneEasy 626 has FM radio capability. It’s a great option, with large buttons and clear sound. It also has a great price tag. You can learn more about it on our website here. You can also find the Doro 626 at your local Target or Sears store. Thanks again for the question, and we hope you have a great day!

  8. Richard hill says

Why does my bill keep going up? Almost 2.00 dollars more this month. No extra time is being used…………

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Richard. The most common reason for billing fluctuations like that are due to taxes. Depending on your area, these can change often. Unfortunately, we don’t have any visibility as to why the taxes in your area would increase or decrease. You can view previous invoices on the My Account section of our website, which will help you see which taxes may be causing the increase. We appreciate you taking the time to comment, and we hope you have a great day!

  9. Nancey Corbin says

Do you have a price of the red flip phone. My brother is 65 and a aarp member. What would be a total price of phone and fees.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Nancey. The Doro PhoneEasy 626 is currently available for $50, and can be purchased directly from us here or at your local Target or Sears store. As for monthly fees, it would depend on the plan that works best for his usage. You can view our plans here, and for AARP members, they start at less than $10 per month. AARP members receive a 5% monthly discount on service and usage fees. All he needs to do to get started is give us a call at 888-345-5509, and have his AARP membership number ready. Thank you again for taking the time to reach out!

  12. Sherry Herrington says

Why am I not able to use the data I pay for? I have a Samsung Note and that may be the problem but my husband used a Samsung Fusion prior to changing to the Doro and he was able to get online.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for reaching out to us, Sherry. I was able to take a look at your account, and re-synched the data function on your phone. Please go ahead and turn it off, then on again. If you data is still inactive, please give us a call at 888-345-5509, and we can troubleshoot further. We may need to adjust some further settings manually with you, which can be the case when using our SIM card with your own device. Thank you again for letting us know, and we hope you have a good day!

  13. Sue says

I have a iPhone 6s. I love the visual voicemail. But I have to keep resetting the phone. What’s wrong with this thing? Apple has been telling users to get into their accounts and change voicemail preferences there. Any ideas? I’m sick of resetting the phone.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That sounds frustrating, Sue. We would be happy to take a look at your voicemail settings and troubleshoot that for you, as there are some settings we can send to your phone that may resolve the issue. Can you give us a call at 888-345-5509? We’ll see if we can get that taken care of. Thank you!

  14. Darlene & David Henderson says

We just got off the phone with tech service, and the phone appears to be unblocked, although call-out efforts failed from our home location. We are about 3-5 miles from a cell tower, but it works 95 percent of the time. Of greater concern is the SIM blocking, which happens without warning or explanation. We feel this should be of concern to AARP and the FCC, since it makes emergency service unreliable. And there’s no way to get fast assistance from Consumer Cellular when this happens.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We certainly understand your frustration, Darlene and David. I took a look at your account, and I see that Kelli was able to work with you on the issue and get a new phone sent out. We’re so glad the issue has been resolved, and we do appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Thank you for taking the time to post, and please let us know if there is anything else we can do. We hope you have a great day!

  15. Marsha says

Does CC offer the hotspot feature for the iPhone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Marsha. We do support the Hotspot feature for the latest iPhone models, but we would need you to request it during setup or call in to activate it. We do remind customers to use the Hotspot feature cautiously, as it can result in high data usage. We’re happy to assist you in setting this feature up on your iPhone, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you again for taking the time to comment!

  16. Melinda says

I bought from Target the Doro Phone Easy 626 and when I am looking at the Quick start Guide, it says there is a docking station. There was none. I had a strap included, there is no place on the phone to thread it through. There are 2 prongs on the bottom of the phone that indicates there is a docking station. Why was it not included with the phone as it is indicated in the Quick Start guide. I sat on hold with the technical support late at night for over a hour and there was no one answering.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We apologize for the confusion, Melinda. The docking station for the Doro 626 is an additional accessory that some of our users prefer. Your phone can be charged with the cable that was included in the phone box when you purchased it, or you can use the docking station. I see that you were able to get in contact with Sara, our customer representative and that she was able to assist you. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  17. Fred says

I have to use a Cisco Microcell with my AT&T iPhone. I have ask if my microcell will still work if I switch to Consumer cellular. I have been told no several times but one person said it would still work because I have the same numbers that I programmed into the microcell. Do you have a answer?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Fred. We don’t currently offer a Microcell, and we can’t say for sure that it would work with our service, as it is not our product. You can certainly give it a try to see if it helps in your situation. If you ever have issues with your service while with us, we’re happy to troubleshoot and work with you to make sure you have a strong signal. Thank you again for taking the time to comment!

      • peter says

I too came from Att and I used a Microcell. What else can I do?

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Peter. We’re happy to look at your coverage options, and work with you to find the best fit for your home and area. This works best if you give us a call from another phone, and if you have your cellphone in hand. That way, we can troubleshoot the issue and work to resolve it. Can you give us a call at 888-345-5509? We’re ready to help. Thank you for reaching out to us today, and we look forward to hearing from you!

  18. Sandra Stevens says

I would like to upgrade my phone but I don’t live near a Target or a Sears store. How can I do this? I need a cell phone that I can text on.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We would be happy to assist you through our website, or over the phone, Sandra. Whichever option works best for you. If you would like to order a new phone online, you can do so through the My Account page here. If you feel more comfortable over the phone, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. We’ll help you find the right phone, and get it on the way to you. Thank you for reaching out to us today, and we look forward to helping you soon!

  19. FayW.C.Moon says

How do I get rid of Missed calls & why is it so difficult to retrieve my voicemails. How long do I have to HOLD 1 when trying to get my voicemail?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for reaching out to us, Fay. If you are finding yourself missing calls, be sure that your ringer is turned up as high as needed, and that it isn’t in silent mode. When calling voicemail with your device, you’ll want to press and hold down “1” until the call connects to voicemail. If you need any assistance, we’re happy to work with you over the phone at 888-345-5509. Thank you again for taking the time to comment, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  20. charles gresham says

When calling the cc customer service why am I charged minutes off of my talkplan to get my phone set up and corrected in my start up.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for the question, Charles. We do not deduct minutes from your plan for calls made to us for set-up or for customer service. We pride ourselves on our customer service, so you never have to pay to talk to one of our representatives. You will see these minutes in your total usage, but they will be billed as “complimentary minutes” on your invoice. We apologize for any confusion, and we appreciate you taking the time to comment today!

  21. Debbie says

I just upgraded to an Iphone6 Plus from the Iphone 4s. I am no longer able to get cell reception inside the hospital where I work. I have to go outside and search for a signal – why would this change based on phone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Debbie. Your reception should be about the same, but it can be affected by the type of materials in the building. Please try turning your phone off, then back on again. This allows your phone to connect to the tower close by with the best signal. I’ve verified that the coverage in and around your area is strong, so if the issue persists, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. We can troubleshoot further, and see if we need to adjust any settings on your phone. Thank you for taking the time to let us know about this, and we hope you have a great day!

  22. Marsha Marker says

It has been over a year since we got your phones, with no complaints, until now! We haven’t been able to make a call, for about a week now. Not sure if it is the storms we’ve had lately, or the fact that the ATT is down I’m our area. Please, would you please look into this matter, ASAP. Thank you.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Marsha. I was able to look in your area, and it appears that some maintenance was performed near your home. Please turn your phone off, then turn it back on again. This will allow it to reconnect with other towers near you that are in good working condition. If the issue persists, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for your patience, and for taking the time to reach out to us!

  23. Thomas Passons says

I am considering in upgrading and getting a different phone in the next couple of months. When I do, and I go to a local Sears or Target outlet, will they be able to transfer all my phone numbers, pictures and other information that I have on my current phone to the new phone at their locations? Thanks

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Thomas. While you can purchase a new phone from our Target or Sears locations, their staff is focused on customer service, and not technical support with our devices. We’re happy to help you with the transfer of contacts and photos upon activating your new phone. In the meantime, we recommend using an SD card to move your photos, and saving your contacts to your SIM card. That will make for an easier transition once you have your new device in hand. We have helpful videos showing you how to do this on our Doro 618 support page here. We can also walk you through it over the phone at 888-345-5509. Thank you once again for taking the time to post today!

  24. Dave C says

When will your home base phone be available?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Dave. At this time, we don’t have an exact date that the home phone base will be available. Please keep an eye on our website and our social media channels, as we will alert our customers when more product will become available. If we can answer any questions for you, please just give us a call at 888-345-5509. We’re happy to help! Thank you again for taking the time to comment today!

  25. George Zawacki says

We are through with the high cost of Verizon. My contract is up later this week. I have a Samsung 4S unlocked Verizon GSM which I will give to my wife to replace her Motorola flip phone. I would prefer to purchase a Samsung 6S for myself and keep both similar. I can go to my local Target store for the SIM cards if that works. How do I transfer data and phone list to my new S6? Do you have Samsung S6 available? I also have an iPad2 that needs to be transferred.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re glad to hear that you’re interested in our service, George. We recommend that you save your contacts to a microSD card if possible, as well as any pictures on your phone. If you purchase another Android device, such as the 6s, you’ll be able to transfer your contacts and apps to your new phone using your Gmail account. We don’t currently offer the Galaxy S6, but our SIM card will likely work with an unlocked, GSM version purchased elsewhere. Once you get your SIM card from your local Target or Sears store, we’ll assist you with the rest. Just call the activation number listed, and we’ll walk you through the setup process. We can also answer any questions you may have at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to comment, and we look forward to serving you!

  26. Jerry says

    We love Consumer Cellular!
When will the home base unit be available again?
    Thanks!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you, Jerry. We’re so glad to hear that you’re enjoying your service! At this time, we don’t have a specific date that the wireless home phone base will be available again. We’ll be sure to alert our customers when we have more on hand. Keep an eye on our site, as well as our social media channels. We appreciate you taking the time to comment today!

  27. Jonathan Hang says

Hi. I’m still using the iPhone 3GS that I bought from Consumer Cellular about 3 years ago and I’m thinking about upgrading. I find myself interested in the Samsung Galaxy S6 but it seems Consumer Cellular does not offer it. I’ve been searching online for an unlocked version and found one online. It says it is compatible with GSM carriers, including AT&T and T-Mobile; also compatible with GSM SIM cards. Will this work with Consumer Cellular service?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Jonathan. Since this phone is unlocked and recommended for GSM service, it sounds like it may be a very good fit with our SIM card. We can’t guarantee it will work without trying, but we’re happy to get a free SIM card on the way to you. You can get one from your local Target or Sears store, on our website here, or you can order one over the phone at 888-345-5509. Once you have it, just give us a call and we’ll take care of the rest. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us!

  28. Erin says

We just bought new phones to switch to Consumer Cellular. Got everything set-up & activated yesterday. Took out the SIM card in the Huawei Vision 2 to import/export contacts from old phone, put it back in the new Huawei Vision 2 phone, imported the contacts but then got errors noting “No mobile connection” and “No SIM card”. Tried several times, turning off/on phone & etc. Doesn’t work. Find out that the Target store we bought the phones from last week will not return or exchange them (even though we have the receipt with a return date of 8/02/2015). Are we out of luck and have to purchase another brand new phone?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting, Erin. We apologize for any frustration you experienced while setting up your new phones. I was able to take a look at your account, and I see that you were able to talk with Amanda, our customer support team member yesterday. I’m glad she was able to credit you for the SIM card, and was also able to assist you in resolving the issue. If we can help you with anything else at this time, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. We will be happy to assist you! Thanks again for reaching out to us today, and we hope you have a great day!

      • Erin says

The SIM card works just fine. The brand new phone is the issue. Now, we have to try to figure out a way to get back out of town (3 hours) just to try to exchange the phone itself, in which the store already mentioned via phone that they may not be able to do anything (refund, exchange or etc) even though we have the receipt. I guess we’ll have to figure something out. Thanks!

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We just wanted to follow up with you on this, Erin. I was able to see that your phones are now working. We’re so glad we were able to resolve this, and that you didn’t have to go all the way back to the store! If we can assist you with anything else at this time, please feel free to give us a call. Thank you again for posting, and we hope you enjoy your new phones!

  29. markD says

I have just purchased a Motorola E. What apps do you recommend for internet security anti-malware (antivirus, anti-malware/worm, internet security) software? Thanks!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Congratulations on your new phone, Mark! We think you’ll really enjoy the Moto E. Each month, we recommend some apps to try in our Apps of the Month segment. We’ve previously recommended a few apps that sound like they may fit the bill. We reviewed AVG AntiVirus security here, which offers a variety of security features. Another app that will help you be more secure is 1Password, which you can read about here. This helps keep all of your passwords secure, and makes it much easier for you in the process. These are a great place to start, and if you have any questions about your phone or security, feel free to give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to comment, and we hope you have fun with your new phone!

  30. Robert says

I am considering an iPad with cellular connectivity. Can I get a CC SIM card added to my account and use that for the data connection? I understand that it is not a phone but I like the idea of internet access via the cell network on a device larger than my phone.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for commenting today, Robert. You can try one of our SIM cards in your iPad or other tablet, but we recommend using one sparingly as it may result in high data usage. For best results, we recommend using Wi-Fi whenever possible. If you have any questions about using one of our SIM cards, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. We’re happy to help you. Thank you again for taking the time to comment!

I purchase a SIM card thru CC and used it on my AT&T blackberry back in 2012, email was a problem so I switched to the Motorola because I just loved the keyboard….then I switched to the Samsung exhilarate in 2013…..I have been using the same SIM card I received back in 2012….I’m thinking of going to Target today to purchase the iPhone 6….(1) will I need to get a new SIM card? (2) will I have all the available iPhone features that are offered by Apple? FaceTime, iMessage, Text Message w/ pictures, email, clear phone service and finally, (3) I can use my ipad anywhere that I get wifi with out any fees (optimum hotspot or even my home or work wifi) so if I activate the wifi on the iphone will the phone utilize the free wifi available rather than rack up charges on my data plan?
I’m about to travel and I need to know I can rely on the iPhone and that there are no limitations activating an iphone with CC. And if there are limitations, what are they?
    Thanks so much!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

These are great questions, JM. The iPhone 6 will take a different size SIM card than the one you currently have. Luckily, if you purchase the iPhone at Target, they will provide you with a SIM card along with the phone. You will be able to have all of the iPhone features, though you may need to give us a call to activate some of them, such as Hotspot capabilities. We encourage you to use Wi-Fi with your iPhone whenever possible, and it will work in the same way as your iPad. In fact, using Wi-Fi is a great way to save data from your plan. Target will be able to activate your phone before you leave the store, so you’ll be ready to enjoy your trip without any hassles. Of course, we’re always available if you have questions or need any help, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for commenting!

Ok, Ashley, you convinced me so I Bought the iphone 6 (yeah!) Sunday at Target (the sales associate there – not so awesome) & called to activate on Sunday afternoon….spoke with Jeff, he was great but he could not get the phone activated/service (boo-hoo). Called CC this morning at 9am, spoke with Cassandra, she was great too, got the phone activated but it’s 6:30pm (over 24hrs since I first called) and still “No Service”…. Everything else on the iphone is awesome (via wi-FI) – the iphone is all linked up to my ipad & even my Vivosmart but I can’t make or receive calls. What’s the problem? Is this normal for all iPhone activations? How long will it take to fix this so that my phone shows “CC service” and I can call anybody? If this is normal, that’s fine, just tell me how long it will be so I stop turning this phone on & off every hour hoping to hit pay dirt! Thank you! -JM

Congratulations on your new phone, JM! Depending on the carrier you are transferring your number from, it can take up to 72 hours in some cases. Your old phone will continue to work until the transfer completes. If your new iPhone isn’t able to make calls by the next day, please give us a call and we’ll be happy to look into it. The best way to reach us is at 888-345-5509. We’ll be ready to help! Thank you for posting, and we look forward to hearing from you!

I forgot to mention that yes, I did get a new SIM card with the iphone which Jeff assisted me in installing. So clearly that’s not the issue.

Tuesday morning & still no service….ugh! Pit in my belly! Waited until about 9am and called CC….spoke with Ron….my hero! It took a few minutes…had the whole family crossing everything….and wa-la I have an awesome fully functioning iphone6!!! Of course I’m still using my home wi-FI so well see if any issues arise with the cellular data when I leave the house, but all in all I’m doing the happy dance & everything is as awesome as you said it would be! My advice to future CC customers who upgrade to the iphone is to be patient! Your old phone will still work until your new phone has service….and it may take a few days,But when you get service it’s AWESOME! And in the end you save a TON of $! Thank you so much!

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I’ve had my LG phone and your service for a few years now. I’m thinking about switching to an iPhone soon. What is the lowest price you can offer for an iPhone 5c? Does a trade-in of my LG phone create a discount?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We’re happy to help you with an iPhone, Lynda. Our EasyPay plans make them very affordable, so you can have the latest technology without breaking your budget. You can view our current pricing for the iPhone here on our website. We don’t have a trade-in program at this time, but we can assist you with recycling your LG device if you like. Hello, I´m Leonardo again. If I switch to C.C. all the apps that I have in my smart phone will continue actives or have to do something (whatsapp, Itunes, pandora, etc). Thanks for your answer.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great news, Leonardo. All of the apps in your phone will continue as they were before when you switch to our service. I’ve also responded to your other comment, so thank you for reaching out to us!

I’ve been thinking of making the change to CC. My hesitation is that I call for golf tee times, and now use a land phone with a rapid redial. Do any of your smart phones have a rapid redial so I won’t miss out on getting a prime tee time?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Bobi. Not only do many of our smartphones have the ability to redial quickly, and there are a variety of “rapid redial” apps available that you could install on a smartphone. We certainly want to make sure you get the tee time of choice! You can take a look at our smartphone options here on our website, and we can also walk you through the features of our phones at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to comment today, and we think Consumer Cellular would be a great fit for you!

  40. Chris C says

Will you be offering Samsung galaxy phones? I have the exhilarate you offered years ago, but have not seen any upgrades since.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Chris. At this time, we don’t have any Samsung phones available. We do have many customers who use our SIM card with an unlocked GSM phone of their choice. That way you can have the phone you want while still experiencing our award-winning service. If we can answer any questions or help you order a SIM card, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting!

  41. Nancy Arensdorf says

My last phone, a Huawei, was damaged when I dropped it. I upgraded it to a Motorola G LTE and I activated it but I can’t call anyone, and none of my contacts or photos or apps were transferred to my new phone. What should I do?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

We can help you with that, Nancy. First, please try turning your phone off, then back on again. This will allow your phone to reconnect to the nearest tower. Also, there can be a delay after activation, but if it has been a few hours, please give us a call at 888-345-5509. In the meantime, your Moto G LTE comes with a special app called Motorola Migrate. This will help you easily transfer your contacts and photos from your old phone. Just make sure to have your previous phone available as you follow the steps provided in the app. Also, be sure to check out our How-To videos for the Moto G LTE here. They will help you get to know your new phone. We appreciate you posting today, and we hope you enjoy your new Moto G LTE!

  42. Kim says

My husband and I have the MOTO E LTE phones. We only purchased 1.5 GB data plan since we only need the phones for talk and an occasional text. However, according to my account, data usage is occurring at midnight and 6am while we are asleep or have the phones off. This usage will cause us to go over our plan and we are not using the phones. Please advise how to stop this or we will need to return the phones and cancel.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

I’m happy to help you with that, Kim. Cellular towers report your data usage in batches, so the times that you are seeing the usage don’t necessarily correlate to the times that your phone was actually downloading updates or using data. There are a few ways you can ensure your phone won’t use data unnecessarily. First, you can restrict background data. Tap the applications icon on your screen, then select your “Settings” app on the second screen. Select “Data Usage”, then tap the three white dots in the upper right corner. Tap “Restrict Background Data”, then press “OK” to confirm. Another option is go into “Data Usage”, then tap the Cellular slider at the top to turn data off altogether. We also recommend keeping Wi-Fi turned on, so that your phone will use Wi-Fi first before using data from your plan. We’re happy to walk you through these steps if you like, just give us a call at 888-345-5509. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us today, and we hope you enjoy your new Moto E LTE smartphones!

      • Kim says

Thank you so much Ashley. I have made the changes and this should work very well for us. I really appreciate the step by step info.

        • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

That’s great to hear, Kim. If we can help you with anything else, please don’t hesitate to ask!

  43. bill says

Will my new Consumer Cellular sim card automatically enter my old att number?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Bill! We are happy to help you transfer your phone number from another carrier. Just be sure to keep your previous account open until we complete the transfer. When you call us to order your SIM card, or when you order it on our website, we’ll ask you some questions about your previous account. It’s a good idea to have a statement handy so you can find your account number and other information in one spot. Once the transfer is complete, we’ll let you know so that you can cancel your previous account. If you have any questions about this process, we’re happy to answer them at 888-345-5509. Thank you for taking the time to ask, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  44. sarahchan says

Hello consumer cellular: Before I purchase a cell phone (Doro626) what does “unlocked and GSM mean? and does this phone have this feature?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for asking, Sarah. You’ll often hear the phrase “unlocked GSM phone” when talking about using a SIM card. If you have an unlocked GSM phone, that means the phone uses the same type of technology as our other phones. That’s why phones used previously with AT&T or T-Mobile can often be used with our service. Unlocking a phone is done by the original carrier so that it can be used with another service provider. The Doro 626 is a GSM phone, and it is designed to work on our network. We’re happy to answer any other questions you may have at 888-345-5509 at your convenience. We appreciate you posting, and we hope you have a wonderful day!

  45. Debbie Irwin says

Do you have to have a credit card to get a phone, I don’t have one?

Our customers can pay their monthly bill with a debit card, a credit card and in some cases, a check. Please give us a call at 888-345-5509 and we can discuss which option will be the best fit for you. Thank you for reaching out to us today!

Can I use my existing cell phone and use your Consumer Cellular service?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Our SIM card works well with most unlocked GSM devices, so it may be a good fit for you! We’re happy to answer any questions or send one to you if you call us at 888-345-5509. My sister is over 65 and an AARP member. She has AT&T service now. She is going to switch to consumer cellular at a local Target Store. Wil she still be able to have the same phone number? If so, what is the procedure?

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Joe. She can absolutely transfer her number to our service. It may be helpful for her to have a previous bill handy, so that she can provide the representative at Target with the correct account information. She will also want to make sure she keeps her old account open until the transfer is complete. It’s that easy! We’re happy to answer any other questions she may have at 888-345-5509. Thank you for posting today!

  49. Sherrill P says

Can you use any of at&t phones? We want to switch but want to buy new samsung 7 edge phones.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Sherrill. Our SIM cards work with most unlocked devices that use GSM technology, such as those used previously with AT&T or T-Mobile. We recommend verifying that any phone you purchase is fully unlocked, and that you review the return policy in case it doesn’t work. We aren’t able to guarantee that a device sold elsewhere will work with our service. If we can answer any other questions you may have, please don’t hesitate to call us at 888-345-5509. Thank you for reaching out to us, and we hope you have a great day!

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Thank you for posting, Michael. The Samsung Galaxy J7 has 16GB of internal storage. You can also expand the amount of storage with a microSD card up to 256GB. That would allow you to store a large number of photos, videos and more. I have a LG phone from Verizon. I really like it and want to keep it. can I get a consumer cellular plan on it and cancel Verizon.

    • Ashley at Consumer Cellular says

Great question, Elvin! In many cases, you can use your existing phone with our service. For best results, it should use GSM technology and be fully unlocked by the previous carrier. You’ll just need our SIM card to get started, which you can find here on our website, or you can pick one up at your local Target store. We’re happy to tell you more about our service and answer any questions you may have at 888-345-5509. Thanks for taking the time to post, and we hope you have a lovely day!

I have a ZTE Avid 916 phone. I only have about 30 pictures stored and I don;t have anything else stored. Zip, zero, nothing but it keeps saying “storage space running out” it shows about 1/16 of an inch of space left. What can I do to open up space? Have had others look at it and they can’t find a symbol to clean up.

    • Great question, Michael, thanks for taking the time to post. In these cases, what we’d recommend is uninstalling any applications that are not being used that were downloaded from the app store, or you can also look into a memory SD card which is great for storing things like pictures and contacts to help clear up some of that internal memory for other things such as software updates.
